  1. We don't have any Hobby Towns here in the Detroit area. I was in one when I was in Wisconsin last year and wasn't impressed. It was the first Hobby Town that I had been in. I was in Hobby Lobby today and was shocked to see several AMT kits at $24.95. I am used to seeing them there for $19.95.
  2. I don't buy a product or shop at a certain store because of who they sponsor or who does their commercials.
  3. I see the web site is still up. Any updates on this situation?
  4. Panel trucks and pickups could run in the Gas class. Starting in 1968 the NHRA put all street roadsters with superchargers into the Gas classes. A gas class car with the front clip removed would run in altered. Virgil Cates from Ohio had a C/G 33 Willys. He would remove the front clip and run C/A. At one time he owned the national record in both classes with the same car.
  5. The closest one is about 20 minutes which is closer than the nearest decent hobby shop. My biggest problem with them is their limited selection as far as kits go. My wife does a lot of crafts so we go a couple time a month. It is nice to get a kit at 40% off but most of the time they don't have anything that I want.
  6. I bought a resin body on ebay from seller greg_anne. I am not a resin expect so I'll say to me it was so-so. There is one on ebay now if you want to check it out. I also bought some decals from someone named Chuck. They were great. I think he is on this board. By all means pick up the current issue of Elapsed Times Magazine. It has a great article on the restored car along with some nice photos. I saw the real car about 2 months ago and it looked fantastic. Good luck with your model.
  7. Depending on the wheelbase of the Valiant the Revell Miss Deal funny car might work. If someone here has one in their stash perhaps they could measure the WB for you.
  8. The August 1966 issues of Car Craft and Super Stock And Drag Illustrated had very good articles and pictures of the 1966 Dart. A book which has good photos and info on Chrysler drag cars is "Maximum Performance" Mopar Super Stock Drag Racing 1962-1969. Not very much on the AWB cars.
  9. Very nice build. Did you happen to see the restored car at the Detroit Dragway Reunion at Milan?
  10. I'm just getting back into modeling after a very long time away from the hobby. I would like to build some early 1970s pro stock cars. In the past I have built mostly Fords and a few Mopars. I have no idea what is what as far as currently available Chevy kits go. What would be the best kits to use and which ones would I find big blocks with headers and so on. What Chevy stuff I do have is small blocks with a single 4 barrel. Any help would be very much appreciated.
  11. Just coming back into the hobby after mostly been inactive for a few years. I thought I would look on eBay for some parts to refill the parts box.Seems like you can still get some good deals but I can't believe some of the stuff I saw. $14.99 for a hood scoop. Not a resin one but one from a kit. Same for a pair of tail lights. Looks like there are people who take apart a kit and sell the parts piece by piece. If I have to pay that much for a part I might as well spend a few bucks more and buy the whole kit.
  12. I am in and out of the hobby and I'm not always up to date on what's going on. I saw some items from Reliable Resin that I would like to order. A few years back I heard that their customer service wasn't very good. I'm wondering if they are still in business and if the customer service has improved.
  13. Scale Modeling By Chris makes a very nice one.
  14. Was looking for resin funny car bodies on eBay and noticed some with starting bids of $8.99. I was wondering if anyone here has one or has seen one and what the quality is.
  15. Sharpie has paint markers as well. They are a bit harder to find than the regular ones.
  16. I hope that one of the resin people will make a teardrop hood for this car.
  17. Thanks for the review.I was wondering if this issue included those other parts. Always liked this kit and it has a reasonable price as well.
  18. We didn't get as much in the Detroit area as they had predicted.Something about the path changed and there was a bit of a dry spot as it went thru here. I think it topped out at about 9 inches around here. Still I had some 18 inch drifts in the drive due to the wind.I live on a dead end block and I was surprised to wake up this morning to find that my street had already been plowed.
  19. Scale Modeling By Chris makes one. It sells for $4.95.
  20. My first model was am AMT 1959 Ford Galaxie 3 in 1. I used every part and decal that came with the kit. I remember having a bottle of Testors silver paint so I may have put some on that on it too. I played with it until it was trashed.
  21. I have used Simple Green for years and it seems to work pretty well.
