  1. My point had nothing to do with imports. It's the engine. The engine has to be the same brand. You can't run a Chevy in a Colt. Because it was sold by Chrysler and called a Dodge Colt it would have to have a Chrysler engine. The Datsun wasn't sold by Ford or called a Ford. It couldn't run a Ford engine and run pro stock.
  2. First of all a Datsun with a Ford engine would not be in pro stock. As far as the driver number the first number is the division that the driver resides in. Take for example Wayne Gapp. He lived in the Detroit area which was in Division 3. His number was PRO 356. When he won the championship his number the next year was PRO 1. If he finished out of the top ten that year his number the next year would go back to PRO 356. The NHRA has 7 divisions based on geography.
  3. Would be better if the whole kit was molded in white.
  4. Too much work and expense just to get clear headlights.
  5. Does anyone make decals for the Magic Muffler Fiat?
  6. Always sad to see a good hobby shop closed. Always stopped there and Model Empire when I was in town. Seems like hobby shops are a dying breed.
  7. I got a similar offer about a year ago. The subscriptions were about $7.50 and I ended up getting four or five. I was quite disappointed in them as they were mostly all ads and a lot of the articles were of no interest to me. Took me about ten minutes to read them. I did not renew. I still subscribe to Hot Rod Deluxe, Rod And Kulture and Rodders Journal. Great articles and not a lot of ads.
  8. AMT 1937 Chevy Gasser.
  9. My wife does a lot of crafts so I am in Hobby Lobby quite a bit. I just ignore the religious items and music. Being retired the 40% off coupon is a big help. My problem with them is that many times they only have one of each kit on the shelf.
  10. Didn't he close the decal business a while back?
  11. Let the nit picking begin.
  12. Scale Modeling By Chris has the wheels. I would use the scoop from the MPC 71 Mustang. I believe that kit also had a Boss 429 engine in it. The best engine would be from the Jo Han Comet pro stock.
  13. I bought a set of his decals on ebay. When I received them part of the decal was off register. He replaced it right away with no problem. I agree with Steve 100%.
  14. I have two AMT 1925 Model T kits with the chopped coupe body. One of them had an extra parts tree with a competition roadster body and other parts and some chrome moon discs. No mention of it in the instructions. The other kit did not have them. Has anyone else run into this?
  15. I got them at the Monroe, MI store and yes they were up high and had fallen over. In the future I'll know where to look.
  16. I was surprised to find a couple of packs of the AMT Sportsman drag slicks at Hobby Lobby selling for $7.99. I wonder if they will have more parts packs in the future.
  17. Just wondering if anyone has used Krylon Shimmer Merallic paint and what they thought of it. Supposed to be a metallic finish with flakes in it. At $9.95 a can I don't want to buy it if it doesn't work all that well.
  18. The annual kits of years ago had a very short production run measured in months. Most of today's kits are in production for several years. That being the case I don't think the value of the current kits will ever be as high as the older ones. Also there will be a lot less modelers so less demand.
  19. I always liked West Point Hobby. Their prices were always lower that the other shops. They have been going downhill for several years. I'm surprised they lasted this long.
  20. Nice build. Love Dick Brannan.
  21. Model Car World has it for air brushes.
  22. Had a chance a few months back to get some car magazine subscriptions for $7.50 so I got 4 or 5. They are all terrible. All they are is ads. It takes me about 10 minutes to go thru them and I'm done. The best magazines I have found are Rodder's Journal, Hot Rod Deluxe and Rod and Kulture. Elapsed Times is OK but it does contain some incorrect info from time to time.
  23. In the mid 1980s MPC made several generic funny cars including Prime Time, Nitro Charger, Fire Fighter, Nitro Vette, Burnout Bird and a couple others. A few of them had smoked glass for the windshield. I am trying to obtain some of these kits but I don't like the smoked glass and I'm terrible at making windshields. If you have any of those kits could you look at them and let me know which ones have the smoked glass. Thanks!
  24. Very interesting. I used to buy gas at the Sunoco station pictured. It was in Dearborn, Michigan.
  25. If you are thinking of building the NASCAR version of the AMT 65 Galaxie kit pick up the March issue of "Modified Mustangs And Fords". There is a great article on a restored Holman Moody NASCAR racer.
