  1. I start with these tools almost exclusively. The dental tool (especially the rounded tip) I use for two part QuikAluminum because I can press firmly into grooves and sculpt shapes. The stir stick I use for Bondo. I'll sand it to the shape I want before spreading, then break off that piece when I'm done to get more uses from the stick. The sides let you do broad spreading and the shaped tip for spot spreading. For skim coating I dilute Bondo one part glazing putty with lacquer thinner and paint it on like a heavy primer with a brush, then clean the brush in lacquer thinner. This is the stuff I use for sculpting. It shapes like clay and sands easily as Bondo when firm.
  2. Great ideas here, thanks for sharing. I have one of these... Which leads to this...
  3. I used 1/8-inch tape to set my margins for the halo roof, but that might've been a little generous. My thinking is that our Cannonball is basically a photo contest and since I'm not the most mechanically astute I'll need all the visual impact I can get, so I'm doing the more interesting vinyl pattern.
  4. While you guys are chasing rabbits down holes I chose not to look down, I'm pretty much just putting lipstick on the pig. In this case, a vinyl top might look pretty. Don't know if GTX's wore 'em but Road Runners did and ignorance isn't a crime ?.
  5. Whoa, beautiful. ?
  6. Sometimes I need two hands. I'm sure there are a variety of no-finger solutions for securing your engine that haven't occurred to me.
  7. I don't know what your engine consideration is, but FWIW the Corvette LS engine darn nearly drops right in. The only tweaking I did here was shorten the front snorkel and trim a little from the chassis at the back of the tranny. Don't remember if there was any issue with the exhaust. (Love your rims BTW).
  8. That’s fascinating. Very interesting find. Looking forward to what you will do with it.
  9. I know a stock intake is the hang up here, but as a point of conversation, the Revell parts pack Caddy engines are plentiful for around $10. The intake rails make it a very distinctive hot rod addition but I wonder if the 4-carb intake could be modified to stock?
  10. Well, that's the plan. I know myself well enough to know that if I don't finish by spring I'll never return to it in the fall. It's amazing what a 20-minute spray can session can do to boost a project's progress.
  11. Very minor update on the GTX… parts cleaned up with some primered and others painted giving clues to some color choices.
  12. That’s so old I don’t even remember it.
  13. Hmm. That many models that well thought out and well executed... maybe you DO have too much time on your hands. ?
  14. Amazing collection of unique subjects. Some pleasantly sophisticated color choices too.
  15. Wow, what a beauty. Only fault I see is it’s not a ‘66 ?,
  16. Enjoyed these, especially the X-wing. Thanks for posting.
  17. Dare to be different. ?
  18. Made an interesting discovery while scrounging parts. May not be news to some of you more learned, but the GTX uses the same identical chassis and running gear, same basic trees, same part numbers as the Dukes/Joker Monaco. While not identical, the Dukes Charger chassis is very similar aside from some minor surface details, like exhaust pipe. So if the AMT '71 Charger can swap into the GTX, then it will likely also fit the Monaco. Also means I can use some parts across kits without leaving one incomplete, so I might be using the four deep dish steelies from the Monaco.
  19. I'm using Jay Leno as my pundit. Can ya bolt it into the trunk, run some lines, do your race, take it out and return the car to original? All my mods will be based on parts that can reasonably be returned to stock after the race by an average fix-it shop grease monkey.
  20. I didn't intend to declare this soon but tonight while weeding through my contenders I broke the wrapping on this old RC2 and was thrilled to see how much room the frame and chassis provides for big fat meats (sorry Charger replacement chassis). Spacious engine bay opens wonderful possibilities and low parts count means I won't get dragged out by fussy, tertiary details. '74 Plymouth GTX.
  21. Besides, it's been my experience that it's sort of self regulating in the end. If an entry falls outside the bounds of what everybody else did, it's reflected in the voting.
  22. Sure doing some quality work here. A pleasure to see. Certainly exceeds my own abilities and patience.
  23. From Wikipedia on Restomod: Jay Leno: "Some purists object to changing or modifying these old cars. I look at it this way: If it makes the car better, safer, more reliable and faster—and you can change it back to stock whenever you want—why not do it."
