  1. There's no financial advantage to bidding early except for convenience. As far as I'm concerned all auctions could last 10-seconds. That said, I don't buy off ebay very often so if it's something I want bad enough and/or cheap enough, I'll make the appointment. That really paid off when I took the chance and bought my motorcycle there. Saved me many, many hundreds.
  2. Across the street from work today.
  3. Been riding this when time avails for 23 years, 1999 Honda VT1100C3 Aero. I designed and painted the aftermarket hard bags and had a body shop clear coat them. '59 Caddy taillight lenses fit the turn signals like butta' so they had to go on.
  4. A small but disheartening update to the 74 GTX. It’s been sitting in the heat of my attic all summer and I can still easily dent the clear coat with a thumbnail. When I return to this in the fall I guess I’ll have to be satisfied with a low luster sheen than a high gloss wet look. Oh well, onward and upward
  5. While I agree with all this, I think there is also more socio-political pressure than there was 50-years ago. Culturally, our current appetite for risk is far from what it was when the space program was being run by war generation men ready and willing to wager their lives on somewhat precarious technology. Fallout from failure today is vastly farther reaching than in 1967. Almost nobody I know knows what Apollo 1 was, but they all know vividly where they were when Challenger went. A high profile failure today could fatally damage whole industries. There is no room for even the implication of chance.
  6. Some really solid work here Nathan, not just in design and layout but in copy writing. My only critique would be to pull your copy and assets in from the edges a bit to add some relief to that tension.
  7. That color really seals the deal. Super smooth on the carpet flocking. What do you use for the door handle hubs?
  8. July 3rd, a deadly quiet day at the office with the sales staff either off or "working remotely" ?. I decided to make a pencil drawing. I didn't like how thin the graphite looked so I started highlighting with a fat, black marker which was very clunky. I found some 25 year old Pantone markers, only the fat ends worked so I was basically burying the problems with problems. With further touchups with a 25 year old felt pen and a white pastel pencil, I finished. Been a long time since I tried markers, now I remember why I never liked using them. BTW, I traced the basic outline so don't give me too much credit.
  9. Nice work Andrew, came out very nice.
  10. This is one of those offerings I call a "canvas" kit. Its relatively straight lines (not many compound curves), vintage features and plentiful custom parts make it a canvas of creativity for customizing, chopping, shaping and kit bashing. I love it.
  11. Wow, those are beautiful.
  12. Featured in the David Carradine movie "Cannonball!" Doesn't end well for ol' yeller.
  13. Thanks for posting the pics Steve, was glad to see them. I'd just driven back from Iowa the night before and just didn't have it in me to hit the road early for another long road trip. Maybe next year.
  14. Fun and challenging project. Turned out good and it's right up Snake's alley. Yeah, he'd be pleased.
  15. Astonishing news. This is depressing. I once even posted a thread acknowledging his contributions that keep this forum talking and buzzing. I could conceivably see activity here dropping slightly in the wake of his absence. RIP.
  16. Yup, pretty much the hunter's Ramada back in the 70's. Love the nostalgia here. Looks good to me Chuck.
  17. COOL. I've never seen one of these done as the box art. I like it.
  18. This is great. Don't fail me on the taillights. They need to step that gap to the protruding fins. Glad you brought this to us, very cool.
  19. On a couple of these, real or not, my skepticism tells me not to believe everything you see.
  20. Yes, I've seen vinegar, salt and eggs darken brass and copper but to me it often seems to cover unevenly.
  21. Beautiful Porsche Anton, Congratulations.
  22. There are many products readily available to help with this. I use this product on almost everything I'm trying to tarnish, but there are many similar products. I got mine from a stained glass store but there are similar products at larger hobby stores that offer metal craft, glass cutting or soldering products. Some nice brass, like hinges or clasps sometimes have a clear coat protective layer which will need to be stripped off. Acetone works for that. If your friend has large pieces for cars and motorcycles, he should inquire about acids dips which I have no experience with. These are some drywall anchors I blackened for a steampunk nerf gun blaster. At full strength blackening happens immediately but it can be managed by diluting with water. These were blackened, rubbed with a cloth, then lightly buffed with fine steel wool. I built this sci-fi blaster box from scratch and all the metal pieces on this and the blaster (except for the round canister and box handle) were darkened, including screw heads and other shiny bits. The rest was model paints and stain.
  23. For a couple years our club met in the conference room of our old city airport. A new one had been built and the old one was very lightly used. I met with the airport authority director and he was quite happy that it was being put to use. Didn't pay a cent in rent and I'm sure if we wanted to host a contest that would've worked well. Plenty of parking and restaurants close by. That scenario is probably not available to you but might help you explore outside the box.
