scalenut replied to 62rebel's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I've tried gator tail sausage in new orleans but it was so spicy that it could have been any meat at that point -
wow nice job ! one question , is the aluminum base a must do for all colors with Donn's process ? that's the only thing I still have to get.

Does modeling affect your purchase of a car?
scalenut replied to SSNJim's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I married my first wife In large part because I thought she looked like barbie. unfortunately she had the same disposition and lack of heart. I might buy a model because I had the car ,,, but not the other way around -
How does Tamiya do it so quick?
scalenut replied to Jon Cole's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
they don't farm out work overseas .. it's all in house as far as I know. that cuts out a ton of time -
How to staighten a warped Body
scalenut replied to my80malibu's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
be careful .lol.. I totally scraped the last body I tried to boil and cool. it seems that there is a magical point where the body is soft enough to straiten and stay put , but go one second longer and it's a banana that you can't recover from -
Airbrush - paasche or badger?
scalenut replied to foxbat426's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I think airbrushes are kinda like kitchen knives , you almost need 2 types to cover all the bases a general sprayer easy to clean for quick stuff and laying down solid color and clear coats and a more intricate higher quality one for the intricate details and graphics -
I don't get it either .. the paasche H is the easiest airbrush in the world to clean. if paint dries on the tip assembly even after a month of forgetting , just pop it out and drop it in some thinner .

Nice vintage gear Dan , I bet that Guyatone amp would sound great with some new tubes in her. -
so true , no matter how good the AB is you still have to drive it . there are guys that do amazing work with the chinese knock offs Iwata is good stuff .
-
I own 6 AB's now and have tried a good friends Iwatas for an extended time as well and can honestly say , the new Badger Krome is a STEAL for the price !.. it's the smoothest action ,accessory packed,(2 complete needle sets, tips, regulators + a quick disconnect adapter)) AB I have ever used .and they are guaranteed for life !.. just send it in for any reason and they will fix or replace it for the life of the AB. you might have to pay a few bucks for damaged parts at the most.(and the postage to the factory). and .. replacement needles are $12. Teflon seal replacement and re-tuning the AB is standard and always free of charge Iwata is great no doubt and have quite a following... but they can't touch Badger in warranty or parts cost, and Badgers customer service is second to none. not to take away from Iwata by any stretch , it's a great airbrush .and to some almost a status symbol (nothing wrong with that)...but it's worth mentioning... there are some kick butt alternatives as well http://www.ak-interactive-usa.com/product-airbrush.html

awesome stuff , I'm sure it's easy to go overboard , so I am thinking, moderation is the key

What's up with no posting?
scalenut replied to SuperStockAndy's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
there are some good build topics going on but. there have been a lot of posts just showing a painted body lately .and I really don't think there is much to say about that. I know Doc crankys done a few lately to show the results of the yost method.. in that case It's understandable but I just don't get excited to see thread after thread started with a photo of a painted body .It seems to be a trend here.. heck I can do that in 30 minutes or a body(painted or not) precariously perched on top of some wheels. I can do that in 30 seconds. I want to see... and learn from.... some in depth model building. ! even if it's a lawn tractor -

Chossing the right airbrush gun
scalenut replied to reaper3's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I'm a firm believer that,,if you want to get into airbrushing ....concentrate on getting the best compressor you can afford to fit your needs.<<<<FIRST .........than start looking at airbrushes. the op never mentioned what ..or.... if he even has a compressor ...if it's a tiny "hobby"one ... all the spraying enamel, yost style,,, advice goes out the window. -
is that a giant partridge family cup hanging from the ceiling ? ...lol

Chunky Diamond Dust?
scalenut replied to Evil Appetite's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I painted diamond dust a couple weeks ago , it was a fresh can , it went on smooth , no chunking issues. possibly a bad batch or bad nozzles, can you try another nozzle?
