Thanks Bill and Niko. Appreciate the comments and you guys following along. This build keeps haunting me and will until I get it done. Chris - thanks for the lead on the Gator' Grip glue. I'll look for it at Hobby Depot if I ever get a chance to get down there again. As for the next project(s), I've started a Willys pickup gasser. Its in the early mockup stage at the moment. I also need to get my 'T' bucket street rod done for next month's Moonlight Modelers meeting. The meeting's at my house and the theme is convertibles. I can't be a proper host without something on the table. It mostly needs paint and the windshield frame repaired and reglassed.

Thanks for the info on the stencil. On these tires, I used the rough side of an emory board. The sidewalls should have been done with the less gritty side as they're a bit rough. Probably why the decals aren't sticking.

I pulled this one out of mothballs so to speak and added some dzus fasteners to the side tins. Found these at the LHS, well not so local. They are Scale Motorsport items and they were really a challenge to get on. I didn't want to use CA glue for fear of it showing so I tried Elmer's which wouldn't stick. Finally tried a double-sided tape adhesive which worked great. I was able to position and move them around before pushing them into place. I gotta get some paint on this bad boy soon. Hopefully the decals will be arriving in a week or so. I want this done. Other projects are calling.

Shane - any updates on this great build? I'm also in the process of building a Fluck cabbed Willys but you're further along than I am. Which frame did you use?

Man that is slick Bill ! ! One day, I gotta get me a lathe. -
Alright!!! This vette is back on the bench. Loving all of the little details and craftmanship on this. If you ever decide to sell your cast engine parts, sign me up for a few. So where can I see this '66 Nova / Chevy II everyone's referring to? Somehow I missed that one.

Now that looks awesome Chris!! That must have been a bunch of work and now, with that out of the way, progress can take shape. I can't wait to see this with paint on it. Is the engine next? -

Thanks fells especially Michael. I lowered the engine mounts a bit and I'm right at 24mm. Progress continues... -
The StraightLine Modelers group is doing a community project of gassers and I wanted to join in on this so here's my build. I picked up a cab body from a SLM member and am using the bed and some of the components from the AMT '40 Willys coupe and pickup kit. As you can see, the bed is taped together for the moment and I'm currently working on the working scratch built straight axle. This will help determine ride height. The picture shows the truck a bit too high at the moment. May need to either re-arch the front leafs or make new ones. Thanks for following along and comments welcome.

8.5outlaw/x275 57 chevy first try at building roll cage

Another method for test fitting pieces together to get everything just right before applying glue is to drill out both pieces to be glued and use small pieces of pins or straight wire. For one thing, it adds a bit more surface area for the glue to hold when you do glue it and secondly it makes for a stronger joint once glued. -
a few more builds to ponder!

Mucho like this one Ed. Progressing nicely and I really like the blue frame and your details. -
Your work is so clean and accurate Charlie. I just love the use of the wash to untidy it up a bit. Looking forward to eyeing more of your candy.

And here all this time I thought he had invented a camera headset or had an assistant. A third hand makes much more sense. -

Hey Chris!!! Where's those updates?? We're all dying here!!! LOL -
Very impressive build so far. I'm in the front row with my popcorn, taking notes. What machining tools are you using, or is that a secret?
-
Those are pretty slick. Just think, after you fill everyone's order, you'll be really good at these. If this was your first set, I'd say most of the learning curve has been mastered. I'll take a few sets too.
-
Now that is some building right there!! Great job on everything. Thanks for posting this one as its my favorite of your builds as well. What else you got?
-
how can i start building models like you guys
gasser59 replied to jay8allday's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
All of the above advise is spot on and I would like to add one more; keep building. Each build of mine has increased my skill set, pushed my limitations and challenged me to be better. As I've become more familiar with the tools available, reference pictures/articles and by reading the forums, I've challenged myself to strive for better, cleaner and more accurate builds. Practice, practice and more practice. Each build will get better. So now where's those pictures? -
Thanks for posting. I would love to have been there too. Is this an annual event or done just this once?

That printing plate template is looking good. At this point, consider how your seat belt mounting hardware is going to hook up to the frame cross pieces, top and bottom, and if it needs to run through the seat back or over the top. Do you have Army F/C reference for this? -

Looking exquisite Chris. I've been 'jonesin' for an update and you certainly didn't disappoint. I'm really looking forward to your brass seat fabrication seminar. Keep at it and happy New Year to you. -
Cool stuff Joe. Each one is unique in its own right. I'd like to hear about the bodies. Do you cast them and are they the thin plastic like RC cars? I'd think you;d want them light if they're slot cars.
