  1. Thanks Bart for the info on the Tamiya pliers. The printing plate he's using is about half the thickness of the home centers' stuff. There are different thicknesses of printing plate all depending on the size of the plate and printing press its used on.
  2. Chris, where did you pick up the Tamiya pliers or did you order it?
  3. Stellar work on this amazing build Randy. You're pulling out all of the stops and all of the little details are spectacular. I'm in the front row, sitting on the edge of my seat.
  4. This is really progressing nicely and it looks like your learning curve has been met with working on this printing plate. Stellar work my friend. In studying the actual 1:1 car picture above, it looks like there is a separate piece of side panel that goes on the frame under where the headers are. It is a slightly different color. That may be the reason there's no bead rolling towards the front. Maybe you've already noticed this but decided to do the side panels as a one piece?
  5. Not any work going on at the bench lately, I'm sad to report. I threw my back out and I can't sit bent over my bench for any length of time without tons of pain although I can do just about everything else. So I decided to take a break for a while. I'll get back to this build if it kills me just not right away. I really miss working on it and a few other builds that are in the early stages. Stay tuned...
  6. No really, how do you really make these cool cloth resembling features? I can't be that easy and maybe its not.
  7. Man those are killer. I just KNEW you'ld love this stuff. It's so easy to work with and if you screw up,like I do any number of times, just start with a new piece. There's more bead rolling that goes on these, right?
  8. Hey Chris. Your progress looks really good and I'm excited to see how these Dzus fasteners are going to work out. I spent a bit of time trying out some bead rolling on the printing plate and I'm happy to report that this will work out great. The trick seems to be having the right material as the substrate under the printing plate. My black rubber matt worked out great. It has just the right amount of give to allow the tool to push the metal down. The trick seems to be keeping the same amount of pressure on the tool so the bead is the same through the length of the entire bead. I used a rounded edge tool on the backside but a ball point pen would work if it wasn't too fine of a point. The first one was done on my gridded cutting matt which is too hard. The second was on my rubber matt but with a wider tool and the third was with a narrower tool similar to a ball point pen. As you can see these were across the 'grain' in the sheet metal and with the grain would undoubtedly work better. What do you think?
  9. I have a black piece of soft rubber about 20" x 16" on my desk that I work on. It is softer than the gridded cutting matt I have seen on your workstation pictures. I'll try that and see how that works. I'll try a number of different ways and let you know my results. Fingers crossed.
  10. Wow!! I like that Roarin' Rat '57. I don't really care where it races if it looks good, I'd build a model of it. How about some pictures of those other cars you mentioned?
  11. Unfreakingbelievable!! This is just too much. Are you still thinking sheet metal for these panels? If so, have you tried bead rolling the metal like we discussed yet?
  12. Man oh man, all of these look great Chris!! Really liking the work so far on the Dzus fasteners and will be following along your progress on these. As for the side panel shape, try fitting your wheels and tires on the rear axle before making the decision on just where the back cut will be. I would think you wouldn't want the rear cut edge to show at the front of the tire. Maybe you've already done this but its hard to tell from the photos. This cut edge should really follow a frame brace so that the Dzus fasteners have a place to mount.
  13. After closely following your WIP, I thought I knew what to expect when this legendary rail was done but you blew my doors off Shane. This is my favorite FED ever. Love it!!!
  14. Me too. I've been wondering how that's done and your's are the most realistic I've seen. Tomorrow is good for me too. I have a couple of places in my diorama this could work so I'll be waiting.
  15. I would also go for a disc. Better detail by not reducing their resolution to go on a photo hosting site. Where can I put in an order for one?
  16. Beautifully done. Everything is very well thought out and executed. A rolling diorama.
  17. You sure you're a first timer? That really came out nice and as said above, the color combo is really great.
  18. Wow Rob. Love both of these but the trailer is even more incredible. All of the little details are outstanding and really increase its realistic look. Looks like you had to ooen up the holes in the Mustang hubcaps. I've done this on my diorama and its no small feat to make it look right. How about a hole in each headlight bowl for the electrical wires and just a touch of weathering on the model cars sticker? Other than that, everything is perfect IMHO. Nicely done. What happens if I call that number on the tailgate?
  19. I agree, both of these are spactacular Ken. I also agree on the Willys kit being one of the best drag kits that ever went to market. Thanks for posting these.
  20. Nice progress on this. If you hover your mouse over the picture in PhotoBucket, a window comes up. Then move your mouse to the bottom line of type entitled "IMG Code." Click on the white field of type and it should now read "Copied." You may need to click twice. Paste this into your thread here on the forum where you want the image to show up and whallah, you've done it.
  21. Hi Dalton and welcome. You'll need to set up a free account on PhotoBucket or another photo hosting site. Once you get that done, you can set up folders of your different builds, vacation pics or whatever you want hosted. You can then copy the link right in the body of your thread here and it will link to the photo hosting site and show up in your thread. Please do it soon as I'd like to follow your Anglia build.
  22. What a cool idea and I'm envious of you guys with basements and all the extra room you have. Junior - caan you post larger pictures from your last post? These are really small and I'd love to see your progress in more detail.
  23. Finally, something a gopher was good for. Otherwise useless in my book and they don't taste like chicken. Great execution Jonathan and I like the original version better.
  24. Thanks for the reply Rob. I agree, this belongs on permanent display in a museum. Its too good to not be shown and shared with everyone.
  25. How cool is that? Take tons of pix and enjoy your weekend.
