Finally, some concentrated bench time and was able to get the fridge and cabinet comleted although I still have the magazine rack and a couple of coat hooks to do yet. I also picked up the Open Road camper kit along with a '55 Chevy Pickup for the resin Suburban body which came in the mail yesterday. Now all that's left is the propane tanks and a bunch of bench time. Suppose I should get going on the exterior which is why I picked up the camper kit. I am going to use the exterior water heater cover and a few other items and will try to get them cast in resin for another trailer down the road. Here's a couple of progress pictures. Thanks for following along.

1/16 Scale Army Vega Funny Car - Finished 10/14/2018
gasser59 replied to Mooneyzs's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
Nice progress and am thoroughly enjoying following this build to your exacting standards. Why not try building the seat out of aluminum? For the most part, it has straight lines and flat planes to work with and being a 1/16" scale would make it even better. Come on, you know you want to. Go for it. -
Too cool Dominik. Love all of the details. This really takes some studying to see everything. I may 'borrow' a few for my vintage travel trailer and tow vehicle. Hope you don't mind.

Oh this just keeps getting better and better. When I first scrolled down to the picture of the water heater and furnace, I thought you were posting your reference pictures. It took awhile for it to sink in that is was a highly accurate scale build. Tom - you're work is inspiring to one who has built a few dioramas and is always contemplating another. I'm not sure that I would build something of this magnitude even if I had the place for it. This is magnificient and I always check in to see what new creative work you have done.

These are indeed excellent!! Did the yellow Astran Volvo hit a bird while traveling down the back roads?

That is gorgeous Harry. As an artist / graphic designer myself, I know that was a bit of work although I'm sure you had a ball doing it.

These are good drawings and demonstrate some great potential. My advise for anyone wanting to learn to draw or to improve their drawing skills is to pick up Betty Edwards book entitled "Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain." It will greatly improve your ability to understand what it is you're looking at. After all, its the brain that draws, not the hand or the eyes so getting your brain to understand what its looking at will make all of the difference in the world. My copy of this book was so ratty that I picked up another one at a used bookstore and only spent around $4. Well worth the investment. Let me know if you pick one up.

How kewl is that? Bet those air cleaners needed changing after that. -
Ok, as promised, a bit of an update. The curbside (door side) of the trailer now has the the booth seat cabinet made. The streetside has the the fresh water tank along with the 12 volt water pump installed. For the tank, I used an old gas tank from a gas powered RC car that I've held onto for over 30 years. Can't believe I was finally able to put it to good use. Both of these booth seats have removable wooden covers with a scale finger hole. Not sure if I'll attempt to fabricate some small piano hinges or just have them lift off. They'll be covered under the seat cushions eventally. Inside the curbside booth seat cabinet will be the 12 volt battery or I may put it on the tongue. This will depend on how much room is left once I get those propane tanks in from Larry G Scale. Here's a couple of pictures. Comments welcome.

Thanks for all of the comments guys. This has been a different kind of build and I'm really enjoying working with the wood Still waiting on my order from Larry G Scale for the propane tanks. I need to make the base and hold down rod and crossbar before I can paint the frame. I'd really like to get this done soon so I can start mounting to the frame and floor. I've been scouring the internet for marmoleum colors and patterns for the floor. May just go black and white checkerboard since its so 'soda fountain' looking but I never really care for it in a vintage trailer so probably not. I think it draws too much attention away from the beautiful cabinetry. I've drawn up some boomerang style pattern for the countertop and table surface that I'll probably just print out on photographic paper and mount it up. The curbside booth is now done and I worked on the water tank under the streetside booth.I'll post some pictures later tonight. As always, thanks for following along and comments welcomed.

Wow!! Really? Second model? You have really done a terrific job so far on this. Did the Cragars come in this kit?
-
WOW!! You really got this right on. The stance, paint, decals, engine, wheels/tires and the slight weathering is spot on. Nicely done Roger.

Here's my plans for the interior layout. Planning on having the goucho pull out into the bed. Not sure on the color of the soft goods just yet but I painted the inside of the closet and booth seating a light blue so I'll need to do something along those lines. Floorplan Curbside Interior Streetside Interior Thanks for the compliments guys and as always, comments welcome.
