Anyone casting skeletons?
gasser59 replied to Jantrix's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Meet Frankie. I think its the Lil' Coffin kit that I got this skeleton years ago from my club's parts box. I took a bit of time and thinned out his ribs and sanded all of the mold lines, and were there a lot of them. I had plans on making him into a '70s death rocker so I made him a guitar and then moved onto other projects. I was going to make him a shreaded black vest, a rope belt and give him a red doo-rag. At the moment, his neck turns and his shoulders pivot. Still have plans to do something with him one day, just not sure what yet. As you can see, with a little bit of work, this skeleton actually looks pretty accurate. -
These are some incredible builds of dirt trackers. Thanks for posting this thread and getting it on track. Yeah, I'm a lover of mid-century dirt trackers too. I built this one as a tribute build early this year and hope to do a '69 Roadrunner that my older brother's father-in-law used to run.

Don Garlit`s "SideWinder" T/F Dragster
gasser59 replied to John Teresi's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
Having personally seen this rail run under the lights in Tucson, I can tell you this is a spitting image of the 1:1 version. As for its length of time touring, it never really got out of the debut stage. Glad you posted your incredible build John. You are the master. I'm in utter awe. -
Thanks for the compliment Mike. Looks like today's bench time is done as I've got to get ready for work so here's today's update. Almost done with the seat belts, just need a bit more work on the shoulder straps and the cam-lock buckle. Also made the frame mounting brackets for the shoulder straps which I'll paint next time at the bench.. Thanks for following along and again, comments greatly appreciated.

WOW Rom, I'm impressed. Looks to be a '56 or '57 model? I have a '59 Aistream Tradewind that we redid and travel in it whenever we can. Maiden voyage was to Jackson, Michigan back in June of 2002. Check out my webpage at airztream.com f you're interested.

1/16 Scale Army Vega Funny Car - Finished 10/14/2018
gasser59 replied to Mooneyzs's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
All right!! Now we're onto the part I love the best and that's the engine detailing. Can't wait for photos and updates. Now we're cooking with gas... -
I too have used a roll of that flashing from the big box stores to build the camper portion of the model below. It works great for this purpose but is a bit thick for all of the small detail stuff. Thanks for the kind words Henry. Opps. Is it possible to hijack your own thread? Now back to our regularly scheduled program...

OK, got the new seat belt material. What I found that worked for me in 1/24/25th scale is called Johnson & Johnson FirstAid Cloth Tape. Of course it only comes in white so while I was at Walgreens, I picked up a new red Sharpie. I'm really happy with the results although I'm no where near done with the belts but the texture looks so much better than the original material in the package or the red paper I was using. Tell me what you think and thanks Rom and Chris for steering me in the right direction.

Glad to see you're going on with ther larger scale. How about some progress pictures and please tell us how you straightened up the chassis. Looking forward to following along with your build. I can see a larger scale in my future too.

Mr Norm's 1969 Super Charger
gasser59 replied to dragstrip plastic's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
This IS an old kit and its been a long time since I've even seen the box. This was my first model kit and would really like to find one myself. -
Wow Shane, nice collection of drag racers in quite a variety. Please tell me where the front and rear wheels and tires on the Pure Hell build are out of.

That's just the ticket. I'll be off to the store on my way home from work. Hopefully the drugstore has colored Sharpie's!! Thanks for the info Chris.

Thanks for the comments Randy D, Chris and James2. Seems I spend an evening and have little to post. Chris - here's a picture of the seat with the padding I finally found that I like. It is the non-hook side of black Velcro. Now I'm working on the seat belts but am not that happy with the red material that comes in the package because of the fur and fuzz that sticks to the edges of the adhesive. The color isn't all that bright either once the backing is removed. I may try to source some cloth ribbon from a fabric store. The one on the right is from the package and the one on the left is some red paper I had in my supply. Each of these have good qualities and I'm not sure which one I like better. Open to input and suggestions. I still am planning on some weight-lightening holes in the seat sides which I probably should have done before applying the padding. Seems I always get ahead of myself.

Nice build of a great dragster. Always loved this one and you did it justice.

1/16 Scale Army Vega Funny Car - Finished 10/14/2018
gasser59 replied to Mooneyzs's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
Exceptional work Chris. Glad to see some of these components starting to get put together. This is shaping up nicely. I really like the way those disk brakes are looking. Your attention to detail is showing. -
Another update but not really much to show for the amount time put into them. Scratch built the aluminum gas and brake pedals. Also made a new master cylinder out of aluminum tubing. Tough to get good lighting in such a tight area and still have room for the camera so I used my LED flashlight on the brake pedal picture. It sure skewed the color but you can see it much better. Next up is to source an appropriately scaled material for the seat padding and then put together the PE seat belt harness. I ended up making a new seat because the old one just didn't fit quite right. Thanks for following along and as always, comments/advice always welcome.

This is going to be so good. Love the historic story behind this build and the fact you're making a tribute build. The frame and everything you've got so far look great. I'll be following along closely.

What am I doing wrong with Photobucket?
gasser59 replied to crazyjim's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I just use the paste (Ctrl + V) on the PC to paste my link in the location I want it posted. I thought this was how it was done by everyone. Not true? When posting multiple pictures, I hit an extra return and that will separate them with a line of white space. Now if I could just get any avatar to show up. Since the latest upgrade, I haven't been able to get anything to work. -

The inside ones are my choice as well. So much so, I put a belt on them so this should assist in your decision on which ones to choose. Just trying to do my part. -
