NOMAD WHEELSTANDER - Belated Christmas - 1/13/16
gasser59 replied to Nytrozilla's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
Now that is really coming along Joe. What...are you trying to keep up with the stagecoaches? -
Chris - I have the Plug N' Plate Brush Plating System although you can also immerse your small detailed parts. More experimentation is necessary. Tim - thanks for the info. I've been using rosin core solder 60/40 so I need to get some of this silver solder you and others speak so highly of. Once I get that in order, I'll try the hot water and heated solution directions you shared. Where did you find this info because its not mentioned in the instructions? I also watched their online instructional video and he didn't mention it either. Thanks for your input fellas. Back to the proverbial drawing board.

Well…I tried the Caswell Chrome Copy electroplating system on a sample piece that was soldered together because I wanted to make sure the plating would adhere to the solder. The directions say it would stick to the brass, as well as a host of other metals, but I wanted to be sure. It appeared to be working but not with a uniform coating so I kept at it by leaving the part in the solution longer. After a minute or so, I noticed little black floaties in the red solution. After taking out the piece and examining it, I found the coating was peeling off. This is going to take a bit more experimenting and practice. It has to work better than this. Stay tuned.

Help yourself. I have no problem with you borrowing my idea.

Thanks for your input Michael. Hopefully more done this weekend.

Finally some pics although not the best quality since I used my phone. They'll have to do. Here's the tubing bender. It's a Du-Bro made for 1/8" tubing and comes with four 3" pieces of brass tubing. The package says it will also bend smaller but in truth, it kinks the tubing. I ordered this from R/C Planet in Sandy, Utah, part number DUB785. Its a very well made bender and with the adapter, it will bend two different sizes. After some serious contemplation, I realized I could use the 1/8" tubing that came with the bender and make an adapter. I bent it 90 degrees and cut off the top of the bend. Here it is in place. And with the smaller tubing inside the adapter. After all of that, here's the result. I'm really happy with the results. Hope to get more of the other set of pipes done this weekend and then, just maybe, some electroplating done.

Looks like the set for the show. Maybe it is. LOL

Now this is something different. I like it and you're really cruising now Joe. Funny thing...I was thinking of building a wheelstander too after hearing of Chris and John each building one. You stole my idea. -
OK....enough is enough. My laptop hard drive is toast and it would appear so is all of my data so I just gotta move on and get some pictures posted that I've taken with my phone. I'll get some uploaded tonight. Thanks for your patience.

Good God Johnny boy. We're all heard about it from Chris, now its great to see what you're up to. This will be fun to follow along. Great start. This will be another show stopper. -
Holy "expletive" Chris...I knew you were ponding this and I just now found this thread. You're off to a phenominal start. I guess more decals will be in order. LOL This will be fun to watch come together, especially in a pair.

Alright fellas, a bit of some lag time while waiting for a smaller Weller soldering iron tip to come in. Then my laptop hard drive went out on me and that's the one that has the camera software on it. I've been working on the brass exhaust but finding an appropriate sized tubing bender was a challenge so I made an adapter for the new one I ordered from an R/C place in utah. I'll take some pictures and show you guys how it all worked out. I'm really happy with the results. I started to solder the pipes up yesterday with the new smaller soldering iron tip. I also purchased a chrome electro-plating kit from Micro-Mark for these so we'll see how that goes. Stay tuned. I should have my laptop back this week, at last I hope so.

Another straightline Bonneville car

Me likes. I plan to build one of these one day. Where did you get the body? -
8 out of 11 here. Not too bad for a small midwestern town boy. Thanks for sharing this Greg.

Wow Mark. That tire stand is awesome. The tires need some white tire identifier stickers on the threads and they'll look brand new unless he's selling used tires.

Any updates on your Walt's Puffer Too Pat? Really interested to see your progress.

I think you can call Andy at Andy's Hobby Headquarters on the SW corner of Greenway and 59th Ave. His number is on the flyer.

Thanks for those pics Greg. Tamiya makes a 1/35 scale military stock Fiat. It is so well done and I plan to mate mine up with the Monogram Hemi Fiat that I got from a member. One day. -
Loving this dio and all of the research work has paid off. Really looks authentic. I'm following this one for sure.

Thanks for your offer Chris. I'm hoping to get some bench time in this weekend since its suppose to rain. We'll see how it goes and I'll post my progress.

Great progress on this and I like the modifications to the original kit. Chris's stuff is great inspiration and motivation.

That is looking so nice. Love the color on that curvy body.
