  1. Just returned from Target where I was looking over LEGOS. The selection they have almost look like model kits. I think if they would have been available like this when I was a kid I may have chose that route. I was just thinking maybe kids build these instead of models these days. Thanks for the memories Joe, I think we grew up in the same era.
  2. Beautiful Job!!!
  3. Beautiful Job!!!
  4. I like it Chuck, nice job!
  5. I agree with Prius which is what my wife now drives, she is on her second one as a matter of fact, Also agree with new Beetle which I now drive, her old one before she switched. It does come with a blood vase after all, I filled it with Tootsie Pops for a while and now a pen as an attempt to make it more manly. It in fact has a motcho 5-speed manual. When they add flower tail lights or wheels they definently get girley. I always considered Mustangs girl cars back in the old days.
  6. We got it in Indiana but, not enough to stick.
  7. Nice job! I can never get those red-line tire decals on all 4, congrats on making them work.
  8. Thanks Greg, Like I said, I'm a little slow sometimes. And so is my PC.
  9. Is the OP for object of the post? I think you are right he answered it. So it's okay to keep this going? This is the off topic lounge right? I am just enjoying the day here while my 3 year old grandson watches Toy Story again, More pictures and memories is what I like. Thanks guys!
  10. Thanks for taking the time to post these Chris, nice collection. Would make great model subjects.
  11. I'm a little slow sometimes, what is OP? I looked back at post #3 and still didn't get it. In the mean time I am still looking at old pictures. This is the old Dodge my family had when I was born that I fell out of, I think it was a '41. I am probably a little bundle in the back seat. Actually, I think my Mom might be pregnant with me here.
  12. Greg, We may be in danger of turning this into a different thread but, still enjoyed your story. My family had a two door '41 Dodge when I was born. I was the first to fall out the door going around the corner from the back seat when I was two. From then on my family had 4-door cars since the whole reason for a 2-door was to keep kids in the back from falling out.
  13. Tony, pictures? I would love to see this. Great story about the special seat. I do remember standing up in the back and looking out between my Mom and Dad so I could see.
  14. Tom, I remember seeing your photo in another thread, thanks for posting it again. Your story is pretty cool. My Dad was a career Navy man but, we never got to travel abroad. We always lived near a Navy port. We came back to Indiana when he retired. He then went through college starting at the age of 40 and got the second car when he gradiated, the Beetle. The car in the garage in the other photo was a new, at the time, '64 Dodge Dart. I have a picture of it in front of the house at a later date.
  15. I found this photo taken in 1964 of our second car in front of our one car garage. The family car protected inside the garage. This was my Dad's work car but, I loved rideing in it. I would enjoy seeing more pictures of your memories if anyone has any.

    SWEET!!!!!!
  17. Love it!!!!! My Mom bought me the kit when I was a youngster. I thought it was a little weird at the time but, had a blast building it. Wish I had one now. I built the Davey kit a few yeaes back and had fun with that one too. Even the shadow looks cool in your pictures.
  18. Michaels is opening a new store here November 2nd just a few miles from my house and a lot closer than Hobby Lobby. Hope they have some good models. I need to sign up for coupons I guess. Not that I really need any more models. I just got about 5 new ones at a show yesterday. It would be hard to beat show prices,
  19. Thanks for all the information here, I had never heard of Ollie's, we have one in a near by town about 20 miles away. I picked up two kits at $8 each and will be back for more. Would love to get some midget racers, they didn't have any here.
  20. Tulio, I know you are the expert on these because, you pointed out I had the spare tire hub cap on the wrong wheel on mine I think. I never did change it.
  21. Nice job and very convincing. Your bright work and weathering always look great.
  22. Congrats on your award. Told you I would look back in my previous post #17. I would be proud of the award, especially at GoodGuys! Maybe the judges were like me or around my age and it just hit them, I always loved this body style and it makes a perfect nostalgia drag car. I built one similar I would post but, can't do it from this PC.
  23. Okay, so born in 1950, Mom and Dad never had a second car until 1963 This is because my Dad graduated from College and took a teaching job the great distance of 35 miles from home. Seemed like a long way to go to work back in those days. He purchased a '57 VW Beetle to save on gas money since gas was almost 25 cents a gallon. Also probably felt he would be gone too long to leave my Mom without a car. In 1964 they purchased their first ever new car, '64 Dodge Dart and immediately took a Summer vacation across the country to California where my Mom's brother lived. Him and his wife, by the way, had two cars, a Pontiac Bonneville beater convertible with no top, and a VW Beetle, new at the time. The trip was a little like the movie Cars driving down Route 66 making numerous stops. Or maybe more like Family Vacation. It was the trip they had waited for and probably felt this required a new car. I carried newspapers in my neighborhood and surrounding neighborhoods in those days. This supported my model car hobby by the way, after all kits were $1.49. I do remember almost every house had one car and either a one car garage or carport. The houses with more than one car, usually the second car belonged to a teenager old enough to drive. More often than not it was the family's old car, that a new one replaced. Not very many Moms worked around our neighborhood but, the ones that did usually had a second car. The Wife almost always got the newer car to drive.
  24. I was born in 1950. My family had only one car in the '50s, a 1950 Dodge and kept it until 1963. We then had a 2nd car, a '51 Chevy my Dad found for $300 with only 30,000 miles. The Dodge was wore out so, he gave it away for $1, then bought a '57 VW Beetle. We had two cars from then on. Most people had only a one car garage including us.
