So, it was decided that the car would stay in coupe configuration for this build. Maybe, at a later time I may buy and build one more as a Roadster. Main reason is time limitation, as I have a lot of projects going on and I would like to see this one done by the end year if possible.

Put it in the Build off thread! Now about those tires and the rear end... If you take the rear portion of the '32 frame in the recent Revell '29/'30 kits and cut it off right where it has been narrowed and put it in your Vicky frame, you will have a frame that will allow you to slightly widen the rear fenders by adding the insides from a second set (from any of the Revell 32s) and fit those wheels and tires. I just used the entire frame from the '29 kit and made my own cross members. Or you can pinch the Vicky frame same way, using the rear portions from the original kit's frame. Or take the '29 frame and insert the Vicky cross members. Either way, you will need to widen those rear fenders or get a smaller tire. You can see how it was done on here:

It's a '30-sumthin' truck thingy...

Today was "let's see how much sanding I can handle in a day". This resin cab is nowhere near as good as it initially looked. Before I started sanding away, I filled the hole for the steering in the firewall and installed the shaft for what would be my top steering arm on the left side of the cab. The firewall itself was filed off quite a bit in the middle to clear the transmission so it can sit where I want it. More fresh putty was added. Thanks for looking and stay tuned... -
Fresh out of surgery! The fenders were bobbed in the rear and their boards sanded smooth. The freshly chopped body had any gaps filled with various thickness styrene strips. Then everything was sanded. The roof was first sanded smooth to remove the insert outline and its texture. Some .060 half-round styrene strips were glued to create some rigidity grooves in the filled in roof. They were then sanded down, but I believe not enough. So more sanding tomorrow. ? As you have probably guessed already, this is not going to be a traditional old school hot rod. Now off to the putty adventure, before I sand my fingers away tomorrow. ?

Just like on a real car. Paint everything purple, seal it with clear, sand it, mask it, paint it, unmask it, clear it, sand it, repeat few times until everything is smooth and polish. There are five different colors in these flames. Each flame was shaded individually to achieve the effect. Here is the WIP: https://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/topic/124169-a-modern-traditional-deuce-roadster/

Yes I used a flame mask. This one tho was masked with BMF, the flames were cut freehand and then painted. I'm not gonna do anything like this any time soon tho, if ever. It was pain in the behind.

I need a pair of stock ones. Chrome, tires and all. I Need them for a six wheeled project, so I need them to match the other four I have.
-
Thank you Tim. This model is probably 10 years old. The flame job is all Tamiya paint, no decals. Topped off with 2K clear. It has earned this model quite few “Box Stock” trophies. The “Family Deuce” four door is actually still not finished, but it will be pretty shortly. The blue one was built 20 years ago by my wife actually. After we moved in together she wanted me to show her how to build a model. It is curbside with no engine detail. The body is actually diecast and used to be a coin bank. We just sat it on top of Revell’s chassis/fenders/grille.

Such an iconic car. I have the same kit. Two ow them actually. Last time I was looking through it, I was thinking “This would look great in blue.” And it does.
-
That’s really purple! I love how it came out. It just looks right.
-
Thank you for the info. So I then got the Revell based Hendrix moulding that I built the “Family Deuce” around . Can they still be bought?

Thank you. it’s one of these rare occasions when everything just fell together just right. My favorite detail is how the rear tires (from the Revell ‘30) are the perfect size for the radius of the bead on the side of the bed. And how things kinda sorted themselves out. So, if the rear axle, any axle, is rested on the notches of the original frame (which will be removed later on) that determines the ride height in the rear. Having put a crossmember to accommodate the rear leaf spring created a hump above the frame. I did not want to cut the bottom of the bed, but it was thick enough that I could carve an indentation, mostly for location purposes when mocking up. Well, low and behold, that sat the bed exactly at a height that now lines up the top bed edge with the belt line of the cab and the bead on the side of the bed frames the rear tire. These are often overlooked details that make a huge difference in overall appearance. They remain unnoticed by most, but subconsciously in everyone’s minds a light goes on and registers that this just looks right. -
I’m pretty sure you are correct. However, there is another casting that looks almost identical, of a four door Deuce that is not chopped at all. The dark two tone model in my group photo is based on it. I bought it and build it long before Drag City cast your master. Unfortunately, I have no clue who made it. But it was very good quality, on par with Drag City’s excellent work.

Here is some progress. I started setting up the frame. Basically it is scratch built, as the only thing left from any kit are portions of the frame rails. As of right now the front crossmember remains, but that's not going to last either. The rear axle and quickchange is a 3D printed item from Maple leaf Modelworks. First mock ups. It's crazy when I look at these pictures. The grille shell and the tires are the only kit sourced items. Everything else is 3D printed, resin or scratch built. I don't think that will change at all. After teh guiding coat of primer I even managed to start making some custom engine mounts. Yeyyy! Stay tuned... -

Thanks guys. I appreciate it. -
The four door? I am not 100% sure, but I think it’s chopped.
-
I have given up on the notion of being able to complete in this lifetime all the projects I have started long time ago. LOL
-
And yes! I am going to build two of them. Side by side in completely different styles in every possible way.
-
Let the fun begin.....
-
Sorry to hear. I wish you all the best and good mood to start another Deuce.
-
Perfect! Finish it up, so you can start another one and enter the build-off! ?
-
It is finished and I need to take pictures of it. But you're interested, here's the WIP:
-
Just start another one. LOL! As you said yourself - Lots of possibilities with this one. I personally, want to build four different ones that I know exactly what I want to do with. Not to mention the two moredoors that I'm itching to build.
