  1. Thanks everyone for the compliments. There's a lot of nice work going on here but like Kerry I had to put my build on the back burner for the last few months do to some personal stuff. I'd still like to give this build off a shot so if we're voting on it, I'd like to extend the deadline also.
  2. Thanks Bruce. Hopefully I'll get more info/photos up soon. I am actually having problems with the interior panels. The doors lines don't seem to match up at all. What kind of problems are you having?
  3. Thanks Robert. Not a lot of motor work but the whole motor compartment will be done up. Thanks Cory
  4. Thanks David and Bradley Thanks a lot Mike. I appreciate that.
  5. See that's why I want to get the badger. Just seems like the right fit. I herd they are very dependable and the brush size ranges a lot with only one needle. A lot of other reasons, but looks like I'm leaning towards that one. You have a good idea Mark with maybe buying the different elements at different times. We'll see when the time comes. Hope everyone had a great holiday. Thanks for all the help.
  6. I just wanted to thank everyone for all the help. People got me thinking about getting an airbrush but after I did research the airbrush I wanted was way out of my budget. I ended up with a couple of models and some spray paint. Michael's had junk everywhere and a piss poor selection of paint. Cans opened and used. Even the employee who unlocked the cabinet was spraying them all over everything. So I picked out the two models I wanted and hit up HomeDepot. The only paints they had were Rustoleum's and there was neither all lacquer or all enamel paints so I'm hoping these will work together. I did the best I could with what I had to work with. LMK what you all think.
  7. I just wanted to thank everyone for all the help. After doing a lot of research I'm leaning towards the Badger Anthem 155 internal mix duel action. Unfortunately that one breaks the budget, especially when you add a compressor. I didn't want to settle for junk or anything I was to unsure about. We'll see how much money I have to play with when the time comes.
  8. Thanks for the advice Randy. I'll look more into it. I still need to get more educated and shop around some.
  9. Mark, some great advice. The photos of your work gives me a lot of confidence about getting that set up. Right now I that one seems to be the best deal. I think I'm going to look for the same kit with no paint and maybe two brushes. Do you think the kit you have would be good for graphics and other projects? Btw, they all don't say how big the needle is, how do you find out what is used? I was also looking into the badgers because michaels carries them. Still trying to do research. Thanks for the help, I appreciate it.
  10. Wow, mike. Some great advice man, thanks. From the sound of it, the Badger is what I'm looking for. I would just love to be able to get it all in one package though. I'm gonna check out Michaels this week and see what they have to offer. Do you know of any sites that might sell that brush with a compressor? Btw, I would love to see some photos of your work if you have any. I'd like to see what each of them could do. I want to eventually be able to airbrush graphics on all kinds of things.
  11. Not sure if this will help but I had to make my own pipes for my Merc and went with this approach. Might give you some ideas on how to go about it for your project. Good luck. I resorted back to my parts tree stash and decided to make my own exhaust I cleaned them up and used a drill bit to make holes for a more realistic look. You can see how far I drilled in the light. I also rounded the edges off to flow better out of the fender. And there you go, custom side pipes.
  12. I also saw some are external and some are internal mixes, could someone please explain what the difference is and which one works better? Thanks.
  13. I really appreciate all the help guys but now you really got my head spinning. Can't figure out what to do from here. Thought a lot about what you guy have said. If you can do me a favor and check out my other post about airbrushes maybe that will help me make a decision. Thanks again for the help. http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=82891
  14. After making a post about spray paint and getting some good advice, a few guys had suggested investing in an airbrush. I'm very limited on funds so I can only spend $75-100 bucks. I'm not looking for the best just one that will last and let me do all kinds of different projects. I hear you guys always talking about Paasche H and Badgers. Here are some kits I found on amazon that I was looking at. I know a little bit but not enough to buy a kit. Take a look and let me hear your opinions and advice. It's been a huge help so far and I need to make a decision by tomorrow. Thanks for any help. http://www.amazon.com/Badger-Air-Brush-Co-314-BS-System/dp/B004ISKY4C/ref=pd_ybh_1 - NO COMPRESSOR http://www.amazon.com/Master-Airbrushing-MAS-Airbrush-Compressor-The/dp/B00BF0MW9G/ref=pd_sim_sbs_ac_6 http://www.amazon.com/Master-Airbrush-Multi-purpose-Professional-Airbrushing/dp/B006FQCBZK/ref=pd_sim_sbs_ac_2 http://www.amazon.com/Pro-Multi-purpose-Two-Airbrush-Set/dp/B004KNDR26/ref=pd_ybh_6 - NO INFO. HAVE NO IDEA IF ITS GOOD OR BAD http://www.amazon.com/Master-Airbrush%C2%AE-Airbrush-Compressor-Exclusively/dp/B009ZXNPUA/ref=pd_ybh_15 http://www.amazon.com/Airbrush-Spray-Portable-Tankless-Compresser/dp/B00G5D3RBK/ref=pd_ybh_8 - NO INFO. HAVE NO IDEA IF ITS GOOD OR BAD If you guys know of any or see any others that are good for a decent price let me know
  15. Unfortunately no hobby lobby near me, just Michaels. I've been looking on amazon but I don't know enough to make an educated decision. I was looking at the kits so I could also get the compressor. I don't know what's good, whats bad, what paints to use, etc. I herd that Don Yost recommends the Paache H Series so I've been looking for kits based off that. I just want something that can handle all kinds of different projects. Any other advice you have I'm all ears. Thanks.
  16. You always do some really nice work so that makes me feel better about buying the can stuff. I've been hearing a lot about the duplicolor primer over RustOleums. When you use the type of paint like the one for your motors, do you also use clear on top of them to polish it out cause I wasn't sure if I could polish and buff out the paint without throwing some clear on top? I was also going to go with lacquer instead of the enamel. Thank you for all the advice and help. Btw. That quote at the bottom of your signature, "work your plan, plan you work". Ever since I've seen that on one of your responses a while back, I live by it. For some reason it has been a huge help to my patients with patients for building. So I thought I'd say thank you for that.
  17. I appreciate all the advice guys. Hey Charlie, I used to paint for my dads auto body shop and some other jobs but never worked with an air brush. I looked into the Preval sprayers but if I go that route I'd rather go with an airbrush and do some killer paint schemes. But how involved does it get? Meaning, would I need to buy a decent airbrush, a bunch of different paints, an air source, etc? The only reason I ask is because I have $75 to work with for Xmas but I don't have any other income so I need it to last for a lot projects. That's why this is more of a budget buy. Thanks for any advice.
  18. I wanted to grab some paint tomorrow but had a few questions I was hoping you guys could answer. I was really liking all the RustOleum paints for 5 bucks you can get at Walmart. I was thinking about getting the self etching or filler primer, some colors, and clear, all lacquer. My questions - is it worth it? Do they turn out nice after polishing/buffing or am I better off to go with Krylon, Testors? Do I go with enamel, acrylic, or lacquer? If anyone could throw up examples that'd be great I am open to opinions on what to use just remember *NO expensive stuff, need to get more bang for my buck. *NO airbrush, need to be spray cans. * stores near by - Micheals, Walmart, Target, Home Depot, Lowes Thanks for any help.
  19. Thank you Bill and Franco. I appreciate it.
  20. Thanks for that Rob and Ray.
  21. Thanks for that Curt. That's actually a really good idea. Might have to do that one day. Thanks a lot Douglas. This was the first time scribing or scratch building anything for me, give it a shot. Can't hurt. You mess up, fix it and start over.
  22. That's how she sits as of right now. This is the first time scratch building or doing any of the modifications. Opinions welcomed. For more mods, photos and info on how things were done visit the build page. http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=63010&page=1
  23. Tons of frame mods, to many to list/show. Rear End Front End
  24. Worked the side skirts and rear bumpers
  25. First off I just wanted to say thanks for letting me join so late and with a half started project. I'm a pretty slow builder tho so I'd be lucky if I could get this done by the due date, but I'll give it a go. Everyone has some great looking projects going on here. I'm going with the Revell 49' Mercury Coupe. I was going to post all my photos but there's way to many so here's a short version of the build. New trunk lines New hood lines Shaved top part of the doors Shaved dashboard Shaved whole back of car
