I have a little update for everyone... been working on the front of the block. All roughed in with water jackets distributor access hole and internals. Just need to do the crank portion and the removable bottom end caps. Sorry for the crappy pics, using a 6K florescent bulb lamp and it is throwing my camera off. Need to take some daylight pics. But with the crappy weather here in Kansas, it may be awhile before that happens.

I know... I know... you guys are killing me here! Posted 20 December 2011 - 10:20 PM Oh, gee whiz. That's nearly unreal. Cast it up in aluminum with some cylinders, then get to work on the pistons! I wanta hear it run... Scott, if I cast one up then it wouldn't be true to the 1:1 BAE.... lol... I would have to machine it out of a hunk of aluminum. Dave, Tyrone, Darryl, I really appreciate the comments, as these are what makes me strive to do better with each attempt at the details! So Thank you all! I am still contemplating on how I want to display this motor. More and More I am thinking of having the Lenco bolted up to the Chassis and the Mid plate and the Motor pulled out with all the plumbing attached with wires sort of hanging lose on the chassis like the was pulled out last minute for the next qualifying round for another block to go in. But I haven't completely decided yet.

Build your own display cases - part 1
eviltwincustoms replied to crazyjim's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
I guess what I don't get from this process and the original post... is why everyone goes back to silicone? This leaves an unsightly distorted look to the edges coming together. Why not use the proper acrylic weld cement, so that it binds the two parts together and if finished off right (sanding the edges and using flame to clear up any scratches) the two parts become one and no distortion where the 3 edges meet to make a corner! I use to build Acrylic/Lexan Subwoofer boxes and doing this results in a much better end product. -
LOL.... Robert, what scale does it end up working out to be? 1/20th scale perhaps?

68 camaro pro mod w.i.p updates 09/20/11
eviltwincustoms replied to tyrone's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
I agree with Chris, to many decals and then it becomes tacky... nice execution with the paint. I can only imagine once a couple more coats of clear hit this and you begin buffing it out... This thing is going to shine like crazy! -
I have to agree with the others, nice job on the execution on the Painting of the body instead of using decals. That is a task in itself, and you pulled it off very well. Like you said, just some small touch-ups, but it will look fantastic.

Joe, Derricks suggestion is actually a really good one, and one that I use when making multiples of something the same. It makes things go faster and you know they are all going to be the same size. The only issue that I came up against was drilling the holes my bit would wonder going through that much material. So I did both Left and then the Right sides together. This way you know that the holes will line up for your heim joints.

Ok Joe.... you are talking nonsense... that would be to logical! Dave, I appreciate your assistance as I limp through this process asking you questions to better understand how a BAE Block is actually built... You realize all the questions that I have already asked it would be x2 right? LOL  don't start blocking my emails... Just a small update that I have been working on. Very close to finishing up the back of the block, just need to open up the Crank opening and put the studs in and it will be finished out back. Thank goodness. Man "Macro" makes it look much rougher than it actually is with the naked eye. Here is one side of the block to show the front of the lower portion where the bellhousing meets up with the block. I had to taper that small section with the milled out holes. Enjoy and Happy Holidays to ALL!!

That looks BADD.... A__ __..... if you know what I mean! I have to agree with Dave, slow and steady will win the race. And just keep in mind, that if it doesn't look like, don't contemplate it. Tear it a part and just redo it again, or it will tear you up inside down the road. Just ask Chris... lol Joe, you know me... I even after months of having most of my chassis together, I tore the entire funny car cage out and redid it again. Just because I didn't like how it was looking.

Yep I would hit up TDR, those are about is SCALE as you will get to actual turbos.. just need to make sure you order the right size inlet for the scale you are working with. Or you can reach out to Darryl (Mister Twister), there is another forum site that the member has a write up on how to make them from scratch... I can't seem to find my bookmark of the site.

Nice Willys you have there Zac, you should be proud to have that in your garage... I would really read up on Tyrone's posts, as he takes the 55 Pro Sportsman chassis and turns them into pro mod racers... most of his wheels come from the new reissue of the Hawaiann flopper. All of the boxes you can scratch build and use Slixx decals and come up with the same thing. Since they are so small no one will know the difference once you put a decal of whatever box you are wanting them to think it is. Enjoy, and make sure to post up your progress pics as you get started on your build.

1-8 scale 69 camaro pro mod (mike hill's car)
eviltwincustoms replied to comp1839's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
So I have to sound stupid for just a second, and I am sure it wont be the last time . I have been reading on Pro Mod forums, and as you state Dave they all run full floater and even the other cars some suggest to run them if possible. Can you go into more detail as to what constitutes the rear end as being a floating rear end? The other question then would be around the rear end housing. Do they most or all run some sort of 9" or 12 bolt GM rear housing instead of the MW 11" Modular format? -
Man Jeff... I really like that Chevelle and Challenger you started, you have got to get those in resin and available for the rest of us pro mod nutts. Ok, I will play, here is mine that I have been working on in 2011... Need to get back into this thing, but my back being out is causing my neck to have limited movement... just in time for the Holiday's gotta love it. HAPPY HOLIDAY'S to everyone on the forum!

1-8 scale 69 camaro pro mod (mike hill's car)
eviltwincustoms replied to comp1839's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
I agree... hopefully I have been nice enough that Santa will have a little extra cash stashed under the tree somewhere. Because i know that 1/8 body is going to be a killer piece as well as the smaller 1/12 and 1/16 Big Boyz. -

Dave, nice work on the rear housing... I was on TDR today and noticed a complete Mark Williams 11" rear end housing/4 Link/ rear end quad break system and rotors and even the rear end spacers.... you have been a busy bee this holiday season! Props for making me spend more money.... j/k at least I know these items will be a thousand times better than the resin parts I have. -
Dave, I think you made the right decision to redo the tin work, because it looks 100x's better now... Great Job! Very cool on the ducts, I saw some of those or some like them on TDR, was wondering how they worked.

Man... Chris it looks spot on from what I am looking at. Congrats on the updates and keep on truckin with that progress. -
Looks wicked at that stance you have it at... nice job!
-
Looks good Joe. I bet those tires scream for mercy when you put water in it! So am I seeing this right, the MFU is crammed in that little space there in that middle tool box section? What is that box to the left side, with "Volume" on it, it looks like a CB or something? RC isn't enough for you, you feel you need a CB so you can go Breaker Breaker... 1-9.... can you hear me good buddy?.. lol j/k.

Nice Altered wheel base nova.

I have to agree with what the others have already said. Your attention to details is just impeccable... and even going as far as to put valve/rocker cover gaskets is over the top! You definitely inspire me to push my skills to that next level. Can't wait for the next update.

Lookin good! Black is hard to work with, especially with all the body work you have, so I commend you on taking on that daunting task. If it isn't done properly every little mistake shows up like a sore thumb. This has alway's been my issue with dark colors, because I think I fall into that large category like you. I don't like body work either. lol
-
Dave, Darryl and Greg... Thank you all for the kind words of encouragement. I agree it is a daunting task, and being a detail nut is my nemesis.. Once I get into this block and get it finished, the big decision of how it will be displayed will be the big question. lol "IN or OUT" of the car will be the big dilemma.
