55 chevy top sporstman build
eviltwincustoms replied to jay8allday's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
I can't really tell from you picture, but it looks like the mounting point is bent out of it's intended position. If you can verify if this is the issue, maybe you can warm it and tweak it back down. One other thing to check is, are both front struts the same length? and is your front chassis on the drivers side in the right position and not to far in towards the engine block? These things can help you get that extra length you need to mount, as the strut should just pop into place and be held by the top mount and the bottom a-arm spring tension. -

Nice touch on the firewall Tyrone!..... man I come back all the time and look at your chassis work, very nicely done I can't even tell what was original and what you added... that is definitely technique. My hat goes off to you. -
Hit Up Thumper, he just posted the 55 Pro Mod he is working on. He can send you his "how to build a chassis101" keep in mind it is more of a top sportsman or something like that but you can easily make the necessary changes.

Now that looks like a pretty mean project! i can only imagine what you have in store... and knowing you do a knock out job on tube chassis, I can only wait to be in aw.

Thinking of doing a 1/16

There is not a lot of Aftermarket parts in this scale or anything larger. You either have to buy other kits to get the parts or make them yourself. Or find someone that is willing to cast them or mill the part for you, then you are golden. Like Junkman said, much easier on the eyes.... until you get to the detail scale hardware then even in this scale it is hard on the eyes.... and Bifocals will come in handy. -

Very cool build, Darryl what is that in the back behind the driver? It looks like a Shirt or cloth of some kind flowing in the wind. Very cool details... I like the fender as well. -

Great Work Wayne, the biggest thing is taking the time to hunt down good image quality shots of what you are wanting to turn into a decal. This is where I struggle, I can find them but the image quality is less then desirable. -

Chris, I hear ya man... dedicating that kind of time in headers hurts if you decide to remake them. I say if it isn't that far off, go with what you have. -

NP... who would have thought we would be using gadgets other than Camera's these days to take pictures? Not I for one!.... Great Start, and the 55 is one of my favorites of that Tri5 era.... Keep us posted on progress. -
I really do like the 40 and 41 Willys... you pulled this one off nicely! Very cool dye job I assume with the windows and headlights.

Man Tyrone, did you take stock out on that repop since you use those cool wheels on most of your builds? I really do like those front and rear wheels you use.. This will be an interesting build, because I know you will do this one as much if not more justice than the last! -

It does look better your blower hat isn't setting in the interior with you now. I would almost say that the headers need to be angled back more off of the block and more angle on the openings of the zoomies but I can't really tell. On the actual car, they look like they blow out at an angle instead of straight out. Are they by chance tucked up closer to the body and shorter as you get closer to the back header tube? -
Brad those wheels do look good on your build. I have to agree with everyone, Jim does some fantastic work. I received my wheels and I am very impressed with his work.

I have to agree with the others... This is one of the best pro mod models I have seen and in,1/24th scale..scale. Great stance and very smooth finish... This is a winner. Just amazing detail. Tyrone, I see you ended up going with the gold bead locks.. :-) -
what size styrene tubing to use to build a roll cage
eviltwincustoms replied to jay8allday's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
Thanks Jerry for the compliment, I agree with the others make sure to use Rod and not the tubing. Something you may want to think about is using one of the TopSportsman chassis from like the 55 chevy or 57 chevy kits. Tyrone here is a pro at reworking those and making them look like scratch built pieces of art! I am sure he would be willing to give you pointers if you decided to go in this direction as well. Just remember, if you do decide to build an all out custom chassis. Use plenty of reference pictures and Measure twice and cut once! And if you come across something that doesn't look right as you are building, I can tell you from experience. Fix it first before moving onto the next part, because the chassis once started crooked, it may just be off a 1/16 or 1/8" but as you work towards the front or back of the car that small measurement will make a big difference at the other end. -

eviltwincustoms replied to jay8allday's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
I dont see anything, what scale are you specifically looking for? 1/25 like what Bill posted up or you looking bigger? All you need to do is just identify the 1:1 size of something and scale it down to what you are working with. With styrene you may have to go either up or down, when they don't have the exact same size you need. Are you looking for Accurate/Scale or do you just want what looks good? This will also determine how anal you are with scaling everything to size.
