  1. Nice job on the updates Tyrone. Very impressive that you use the old Testors tube glue, I find that stuff takes way to long to adhere to anything, especially for custom made styrene. I remember using that stuff way back when, use to much and it melts the plastic to the point of no return to where it will never set up. But it looks like you have conquered the right amount, because your builds always look perfect!
  2. Nice job on the frame Niko, on the parts that you have rounded you can't even tell it was at one time flat. Keep up the tedious work and it will pay dividends in the end, as you say it will look more like the 1:1 once completed.
  3. Tyrone, I see you are using Evergreen Rod vs. Plastruct... what are you using to weld it(I use Ambroid ProWeld)? Because I find it harder to work with (doesn't like to weld together as well) than the Plastruct and don't like Evergreen.
  4. I think Chris and Wayne has pretty much covered everything on your list, and I would have to agree... Slow and Steady wins the race. With the ol' addage, "Measure twice and cut once!" when you start getting into the details especially if you tackle a full blown custom chassis. If something is off and not caught in the beginning it will throw off everything and you can get to the point where if not noticed you may almost complete your chassis without getting it fixed. It sounds like you want to tackle going all out and doing a lot of detail. Your best friend is going to be Wayne's Fotki albums and "Google". There are many sites where they are building Pro Mods from teh ground up. This will give you your Door Hinges motor mounts and any other mount you need. Your last resource would be anyone on here, there are a lot of detail hounds and pretty much anyone on the Racing Forum I am sure has some sort of Picture that would be of benefit! This site has a great bunch of builders and will help out any way we can. Oh, since you are building the 66 Pro Mod Nova, something you may want to take a look at is Rickards 66 Pro Mod Nova build up! This is also a great build with plenty of reference pics directly from the Model itself. Not sure if he has it posted on this forum, but it can be found on another site. Hit me up on PM and I can give you more details!
  5. Everyone has different scales that fit in there homes and collections. When you get into 1/16, it isn't about having access to accessories and other parts and trailers. It is about building from scratch what you need. This is a great size to build functioning door locks, piano hinged doors, stretching the sleepers and fully customizing the interiors with Amps and such for "Show and Shine" type trucks. Even another person posted about the lack of detail, I have to agree but this is where you get creative. My plans are to build out my 1/16 truck with Scale Hubs and mounting up the wheels exactly like a scale Rig. It is just about the builder and how far you are wanting to take your skills, to take these trucks to the next level. I have to say that I have seen a lot of amazing builds in 1/25 and 1/24 scale! It just amazes me that so many of the builders really get into Rigs.
  6. I assume you are working in 1/25th scale? If you have the actual dimensions of a real frame just divide that number by 25 to get your new dimensions. Example 2" x 6" = 0.08" x 0.24" in 1/25th scale. Then just look for the styrene that is close to those dimensions and you will be good to go!
  7. Hobby Lobby doesn't sell it, your best bet is to order directly from Plastruct but they have a minimum order of $20.00. You can always use Ebay to purchase it or fine a Hobby store with a Website that sells the stuff as well. Or I am sure anyone of us would be more than willing to purchase the stuff for you and send it your way for actual charges + shipping.
  8. Oh I am sure those little buggers were a pain to set and cut out each one making sure they were the same size and had the same angle on each individual tab. NICE WORK! Ok Chris, I am very excited to see what you have planned here. I have never seen a Dzus fastner up close like this from the underside. So by chance do you have the part that mounts flush on the top of the finished panel? I would like to see it up close from the bottom and a side view. I want to say it has a little spring in it as well so it stays popped out, so you compress the spring to catch the larger spring underneath? Wheels are spinning here trying to figure out how to make these function.
  9. Very cool looking, I like the Skull 57 chevy and the Mad Mag Funny Cars.... Me I want to see more of the Rent a Wreck in the background!
  10. So Joe, how about I send you my Rig and you can detail it out for me? Call it a nice gesture and I will repay you with a BIG "Thank You!". I want to see more on the scratch built Cab of this... Any updates on the Tank?
  11. Scott, Wayne, Joe, Darryl, Tyrone, Chris.... Thank you all for the kind words and words of encouragement! I would love to take credit for the turned aluminum tanks, but Thanks goes out to Jim (MicroNitro). I have just done the small detail of building the NOS bracket that will be used to hold them down in my car. Darryl, when I get closer to wrapping up the car I will be looking for your "How To" on your deployed Chutes, I really would like to add that detail to my project!
  12. Welcome to the form Doug! Sounds like a fantastic build project, and would love to see some details you have been working on! With it being up to 13 pages I wouldn't look for a play by play, but more of a recent where he is at now. Then possibly a Photobuket link with all of the pics for us to check out. Sounds like Doug has the skills, it doesn't do him justice in just posting a small crusty old film clip you can't even see the actual car. Myself I would rather see a teaser pic of his work.
  13. Not much of an update, but I thought I would share since it is dark and had to stop working. Now I just have to make the final 3 brackets and 3 T handle's to hold down the top NOS tank bracket. Even added threaded bolts to mount the four brackets. Here is a Little taste of my Rig that will be pulling my Pro Mod. A lot of custom work ahead of me on this one as well. It will be stretched out to the 355" wheelbase. Hood, Cab and Sleeper will be dropped down onto the frame a scale 4" and the Cab will be chopped. For the trailer, I am thinking a semi Stack Trailer just like they use to haul the race cars in.
  14. You have got to show us that Tissue Paper process to make deployed chutes!
  15. My favorite is the Vette and the wrecked Beretta.... now that is just cool how you made it look like it has kissed the wall a couple of times.
  16. Man, now that is just plain NUTS! as Batzilla said, I have a hard enough time in 1/16th scale and you are doing this in 1/24 just plain wow... and that 00-56 bolt still fitting through the wheel is just detail oriented.... my luck would have been that it would have hit and not worked..
  17. If you are running Top Sportsman or Quick8 or anything like that you would want to have front struts. Unless you want something more Pro Street and use like A-Arms up front. Any of the current cars at the Hobby shops will get you what you are looking for, for parts.
  18. Oh, I bet he was cussing up a storm! He can get pretty hard on himself and his daughters. Chris I would go for a disc, because putting them on Photobucket you lose the resolution when blowing them up to see details.
  19. Lookin good Tyrone, definitely learning from a master builder with Pro Mod/Outlaw cars!
  20. Are there any other places that sell parts for the 1/16 Rigs other than GardenTrucking and the Wedico stuff? I would like to find some of these nice PE parts for the bigger rigs as well.
  21. Looking pretty cool Derrick! By chance have you checked to make sure it will still fit between the frame rails? A lot of great detail, I would hate for you to take all that time and find out you will have to redo it. I really like that Aluminum line you bent, that looks sweet!
  22. Chris, that is cool getting to take a picture with John Force! I hope he does well this weekend, and let us know where you plan on posting those reference pics!
  23. Niko, you have a lot of Talent as well! You work with Brass and do a lot of your own scratch building which is just amazing! So i know you can make the doors, it will just take some concentration and time. Thanks Scott for the complement! Pretty simple and does exactly what I needed it to do. Again Thanks to Wayne for the great suggestion of using the Lock springs.
  24. Brad, Robert, Derrick and Joe, I appreciate you stopping in and taking a gander at the video. Thanks for the complement! Joe, my intentions are to make the butterflies and brake pedal functioning. The throttle linkage will be iffy, depending on how many connections I will need to do. My concern is up around the Hat and getting the brackets sturdy enough to handle movement.
  25. Chris and Wayne... Thank you very much for the kind words, it is much appreciated! Chris, I say borrow away and use on your build anyway you can figure it out to work. Especially on your Pro Mod you will soon be working on.
