ENGINE LOVE--Post Your Favorites
1320wayne replied to Dr. Cranky's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Here's a couple of shots of the the engine that I built for my pro mod Jeg's Mustang a few years back. -
Heli-Hemi 68 Super Stock Dart...Complete!
1320wayne replied to 1320wayne's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
John didn't attend this year. I'm not sure why. Nothing was said on any racing sites. -
Couldn't tell you anything about it. This photo was taken at a model show in South Carolina and I have no idea who built the fire truck recovery vehicle.

Heli-Hemi 68 Super Stock Dart...Complete!
1320wayne replied to 1320wayne's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
Thanks for the comments. The slicks came from...............the parts drawer. Unfortunately, sometimes I have collected parts from so far back that I can't remember where they come from. I use a 240 grit adhesive backed sandpaper formed around a wooden block to do most of my tire sanding. -
Heli-Hemi 68 Super Stock Dart...Complete!
1320wayne replied to 1320wayne's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
I've gotten back on this one as I only have about a month to finish it up so I can take it along with me to Atlanta. Not much to update but it is center stage on the workbench again so the updates should be rolling along now until completion. I was able to get the wheelie bars built and installed. That's pretty much it for the moment but there will be more to come shortly. -
I noticed a few pages back that it was mentioned that there was no timeline for this community build. So, I'd like to join in. First let me say that although I'm not a rookie to model building I can't say that I'm not when it comes to police cars. I have primarily built drag cars, Nascar or street machines over the years but just recently took on an interest in police vehicles. Last year I completed my first build using the Revell Impala curbside kit along with decals purchased online. I'm not sure if they are Billbozo decals or some other maker. I added a few small subtle details and did some mild weathering, added a dog to the back seat and eventually placed it on a small scenic base. Here's a couple of pics. For the project intended for this build I will be creating a bit of a larger diorama consisting of a wooded scene set in Alaska using an older AMT Ford Explorer suv kit along with Alaska State Troopers decals. I will have some pics. of the beginning of the project shortly.

Billy the kid Stepp Prostock Demon update 10/13
1320wayne replied to ratnasty's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
I'd be there right with you Roger, for a set of those as well. Those look really good Chuck. Also, Slixx is supposed to be creating a set of decals for the Carlton Demon. -
I don't doubt that it will be a good show. Besides the closer proximity of this other show up here there is also the matter of finances and anything extra is planned for the annual trip to Atlanta in November. Shows seem to be so sparse here in Florida, I would love to be able to attend any that do happen but money is tight now for so many that it never seems to work out.

Awesome, as usual, Roger. Those appear to be Fred Cady decals. Or maybe something else entirely.
-
Superb job on both. The finish is awesome and the stance for both really is great.

Looks really good. Love the added detail.

1/25 AMT '76 Gremlin X 2n1 coming from Round 2
1320wayne replied to SteveG's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Slixx has an upcoming decal sheet on their list that will allow the builder to do both the early Wally Booth Gremlin X and the later version. That's good enough for me to be anticipating this one. -
Testors vs lindberg 2006 srt8 chargers
1320wayne replied to cotto's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
This is correct. All you have to do is spread out each box contents (if you have both) to see that most of the parts trees are identical other than the small differences in specific model of Charger already stated. -
Bart, your door detail is fantastic. I will also say that I will have to be trying out your hinge method on my next pro mod subject. As far as the spring hunt goes, the perfect size spring for what you need is as close as your nearest hardware store that sells or re-keys door locks. The springs inside a door lock mechanism are the perfect size for what you need with just the right type of tension. Check it out. If you can't find anything near you let me know. I have quite a few and can afford to spare a couple.

The wheelie bar is now complete. I have temporarily attached it to check for any fit issues and how the mechanism works. Everything appears to be fine, although the overall lift ability isn't what I would have liked but it still looks good, in my opinion. Now I can remove it and get the final painting done on the piece.

Here's what I have collected. Both the longnose and almost stock wheelbase versions. Looks like a mixture of Cragar S/S mags along with Halibrands and ET mags on the fronts of the shortnose car.

Thanks for all of the comments. The wheelie bars are almost complete. The only thing left is too fabricate the pads which are what make contact with the pavement and create the sparks during the run. Once that is done then it will be ready to be painted and installed. Don't mind the different colored springs. As springs are supposed to do the other red spring sprung out of my hand and where it went is anybodys guess. I'm sure that I will find it in two years or so when I am down on the floor looking for some other part that decided to fly away. Meanwhile, the yellow one will work just fine, all I have to do is touch it up with some red paint or sharpie. The working mechanism works well. The red cross section is also true testament to having a parts box where you save every little piece of every model from the past. You never know when something you saved will come in handy. In this case the cross brace is from a rollcage from some kit that I saved parts from and it just happened to be the perfect size for bracing.

Decals are done. I printed a second sheet of the graphics onto clear decal film and doubled them up to brighten the image. Now I just give it a few days for all decals to settle and then hit the body with some clear.

My Inspirational Model Car
1320wayne replied to Romell R's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
My inspiration has to start with non other than my dad. If not for him I most likely would not be building models today. I remember as a young child, sitting on the living room floor and watching my dad work on a model using a t.v. tray table as a workbench. I always thought that his builds were so cleanly built and well done. Now, where my building skills have gone to (and still yet to go) are thanks to many builders along the way that I have pulled inspiration from. Whether it be someone who builds in the same genre as I or anyone of a large number of builders who build so many different types of subject matter and raise the bar with each build. The list is long and illustrious but I would have to name some. From the "extreme" building skills of Clay Kemp and David Thibideau to the amazing scratchbuilding and detailing talents of Ken Hamilton, Dirk Joseph, David Morton or John Teresi. Along the way I have had the privilege of being fellow club members with the likes of Jairus Watson and Bob Peath, both pioneers in this hobby. I have been a passionate fan of this hobby for so many years and it's always been an honor to meet some of the greatest builders and people throughout the years. From Augie Hiscano and Ricky Couch, two of the best builders and ambassadors to this hobby that will always be missed, to Mark Gustavson, Roger Yu, Steve Hinson, Mark Jones and a host of others. Not only have I learned better building skills from so many of these folks but also how to be a better person and how be giving of one self. And, lastly, to Terry Marcum. A good friend that years ago took the time to sit with me and teach me better basic skills at painting models, which is probably the biggest movement in my building skills over and above anything else, even though I still have plenty of room for improvement. My ultimate goal is to continue to learn from every great builder and to maybe hope to be able to help someone else along the way sometime. -
The spring pictured came from Radio Shack. A few years back I noticed that they sold some 1/32 scale radio control cars that also had a seperate suspension kit that you could purchase. The kit came with three complete sets of springs for different tension ratings. They work perfectly for rear suspensions in 25th scale.

Body filler - long term options?
1320wayne replied to Jantrix's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Rob, obviously if you've had this for five years and only used a third of the tube then most likely the suggestions for using a brand that comes in smaller increments is the way to go. I use Evercoat products (Rage and Eurosoft to be exact) that come in quart cans and a seperate tube of hardener. I try to take every precaution to extend the life of the product. Such as, I use paint can clips from the paint dept. at Lowe's along with storing each can inside a round Tupperware style container for extra protection. I have a can of Eurosoft that I bought back in 05' and what is still left in the can is good. -
Well, since I'm on vacation this week it would be a shame if I wasn't able to find any time to work on projects. Got some more done here. Thanks to John Teresi for a couple of reference pics. I was able to get started on the wheelie bars. First I had to create an anti-sway bar for the working suspension so it wouldn't move side to side. It is temporarily rigged up with some parts box photo etch and hardware from Scale Hardware. It works and moves with the suspension so now the next step is to paint it and permanently mount it. Next is the beginning of the working wheelie bars. I started with two different sized aluminum square stock lengths and more hardware from SH. Much more to scratchbuild on this so there will be more to come later in the week.
