Everything changed that day. Our freedom to move around without question. The fear we all feel. The increased implications of safety as we travel by plane... taking our shoes off to be scanned. Needing a passport for places we didn't before. The terrorists have won. They have altered our lives.

I'm pleased today because I got over a major hurdle on a project. For those who know my involvement with NNL East, it shouldn't be a big surprise that I run corporate events. Today I got hotel contracts signed and a room block opened up for a large conference in Puerto Rico for my client, a major pharmaceutical company! The past few weeks have been non-stop pressure! At least that part is done... now onto the logistics!

Actually I thought she was looking for a bargain dentist since her mother had no front teeth.... that was a low point of our occupancy of our NJ house. The toothless, alcoholic daughter of our elderly neighbor and her free range three year old moved in with our poor elderly neighbor. It went on for about a year until the poor old guy sold the house and moved in with his son to get rid of her! -

Wow! I agree with the posts by Tim and Brett. Think about it... if you were a manufacturer with limited time, would you be spending it on a message board known to be hostile? There's a certain faction here on this board that won't give the manufacturers an inch. Especially a few Tamiya worshippers who nothing that the domestic manufacturers produce will ever be good enough for them! If indeed we want the manufacturers to come onto this board, we need to watch our manners. -

More likely the thief took the packages, opened them somewhere and said, "What is this junk?" Many years ago when we lived back in NJ, our newspaper was missing daily. We called the newspaper who sent the carrier back with a new one, but the third time she knocked on the door almost crying that she DID deliver it. Mystery was solved the next day. I watched it be delivered onto our walk, then a few minutes later the 3 year old next door ran up and took it. Upon confronting her mother, she said she had no idea where the kid was getting the papers from... yea right. -
I was living in the NY Metro area, in a NJ suburb with waterfront on the NY harbor, across from Staten Island, at the time and literally was surrounded by the aftermath and memories. The news will cover the big picture, but here's some memories that they won't cover... + Three of our Tri-State Scale Model Car Club wives worked in the World Trade Center. It was several nail biting days before we learned they were all safe. + My wife could've lost two brothers. One was supposed to interview in the World Trade Center that morning, but decided not to go. Her older brother worked in NYC and was on a subway on it's way to the station in the center. His train was halted on the track, in the middle of the tunnel under the river, to be safely turned back. He watched the towers fall from a parking garage roof in Jersey City, NJ. + My wife's sister's husband was in the air when everything happened. He was on his way from Newark Airport to Texas, ironically on a flight that the hijackers had timed, but didn't choose. His plane was forced down in Atlanta. With the US airspace closed, all the rental cars were gone. HIs boss bought a new car to drive them home to NJ. + You could see the smoke from the fire from my house in New Jersey. The entire area smelled like there was an electrical fire in your neighborhood for at least a week. + There was no broadcast TV from the New York stations for something like six months because all the antennas were on the roof of the World Trade Center. That forced the last holdouts to have cable tv installed. I saw the trucks in my neighborhood for weeks. The wait for a new install was weeks. + During the event the entire phone system in NYC and New Jersey was jammed, and brought to it's knees. You couldn't make a call. + Living in an area where a lot of people commuted into NYC, several of my children's friends' fathers were lost. + Our area was central to several NY airports. There were always a dozen planes visible in the sky. With the airspace closed, it was eerie quiet. + At my company in NJ they pulled down the large screens in our cafeteria and ran the live coverage. The cafeteria was full, but nobody ate lunch. With very sparse news we went into lockdown. Nobody in / nobody out of a facility with over 2000 employees. My wife took this photo at the end of my street in Central NJ. We could see the World Trade Center glistening over Staten Island from our water front. I couldn't bring myself to look that way for a long time. I lost my job in the economic downturn after 9-11. The irony was that the very first offer I got was to work at One NY Plaza, a tall black building facing the NYC waterfront, right in the same vicinity as the World Trade Center. I couldn't bring myself to accept the offer.

Sometimes I'm tired, sometimes I'm shot Sometimes I don't know how much more I've got Maybe I'm headed over the hill Maybe I've set myself up for the kill Tell me how much do you think you can take Until the heart in you is starting to break? Sometimes it feels like it will

On Anudder Board I have two friends I banter with all the time. I know them both in person from attending shows. They both happen to be from Canada. We goof back and forth all the time. Then I get an email from a guy I don't know, who doesn't know any of us, accusing me of being prejudiced against Canadians and trying to run them all off the board! Actually pretty funny!

Same when I lived in NJ. The post office in my town was an old building with poor parking. The clerks there weren't nice or efficient. I'd go one town away where there was a great facility with easy parking. The clerks there were friendly and efficient. Interesting how they all represented the same organization within a mile of each other. -
Scott, you showed a lot here but I'll add a few details.... Scouts kinda rusted... here's one from New Jersey.... I believe this is a Scout Traveler with the longer wheelbase. I've collected up a bunch of the most recent Scout release to stretch one of these. Same lot as the first one only they haven't made this flat round. Scary rust! Here's the larger Traveler, I believe this one was in Virginia, just to show that rust doesn't discriminate. This one's roof looks ready to peel back at speed. Anyone recognize this one? It's on my long list of models that need to be built

Agreed. Part of the charter of the USPS from day one was that they would deliver to every address in the United States. There were times that it cost more by zone, but eventually it became for one price per ounce, anywhere. Currently 49 cents. I saw a documentary about some of these routes through rural America. Think of those villages only accessible by air in Alaska. They get mail. The show used an example of one mail route by Cessna to ranches in Montana. And it all averages out. The other carriers can do whatever they want. There are places they refuse to deliver at all. And an irony, there are places where they hand off a package to USPS to deliver! I once tried to mail three packages at a UPS center and they wanted to put a "Out of area" surcharge on all three of them. The one package was a kit swap with another modeler. He mailed me his kit for $6. UPS wanted $15. So I took it to the post office and mailed it for $6. UPS performance at my house today? My wife came home and found a UPS package standing up against our garbage pail at the curb. Many people would take that as a sign that the package was in the garbage. That driver saved himself the one minute of coming up my driveway. Their best performance is backing the truck up the driveway and tossing a package from the drivers seat onto my driveway. This spring I found a package that was missing for a week all soggy and under my car. How does USPS handle a package too big for my mail box? They walk it up the driveway and put it on my covered front porch next to my front door. No comparison! -
Because she's a model car groupie? Congrats!

My father was a big USAA fan, since he was a retired army officer. Through association, that made me eligible so when I got married in 1981 I applied and was accepted. A few weeks later I got a cancellation notice. They ran my perfect driving record and found an accident on my record. I had no idea it was there. A lady had hit the back of my car on ice, she broke her front directional inside a rubber bumper. There was no damage on my car, so I let her go and we both left. I had no idea that she went and filed an accident report. USAA didn't want to hear it. So I went elsewhere.

People are clueless. My eBay experiences go from those who don't put anything besides the item in the box, to those who pack things so tight and secure that you have trouble getting to it without damaging it. We take it for granted that mailing a package is a common skill. It is not. I see it when I go to the post office. I'm standing on line and there is often one or more persons trying to mail something. They went to the post office with just the item in their hands. They have no box, packing materials or tape. The clerk guides them towards the free priority mail boxes, they then come back to the counter and the clerk shakes the box... nothing inside but that one fragile item. He guides them to look in the trash for newspapers and sales flyers that box holders have thrown out. Amazing.
