  1. I dunno Skip, maybe they're intimidated by your picture! I know what you mean though. When you go to the trouble of sending someone parts they need for free (and postage for the smallest thing is around $2 these days) and you don't even know if they even got them.
  2. Ya know, we need some kind of software that blocks you fair weather guys form posting in this thread! Can't wait until it's like 140* out there this summer!
  3. what windshield? I did that to the windshield on my Little Red Wagon pickup. I had put interior sun visors above the windshield and one of them fell off. So I put a little bit of super glue on a toothpick and as I went in to place it on the roof inside so I could then press the visor in place, it was like static electricity or something. The glue literally jumped off the toothpick and made a zig zag pattern across the windshield. I just pulled out the windshield and made a new one from clear plastic sheet. Depending on the windshield shape, you may be better off doing that than trying to save yours.
  4. What is the difference between those two kits? I see the custom front end on the box top of the yellow kit, on the side of the blue one, so that's not a new part. I have a blue one but not the yellow. I have always passed up the yellow assuming it was just the same kit I already had but with some custom stuff I wouldn't use. A lot of those old MPCs were like that. For instance I had the Bear Bait, later model Chevette. I wanted to build the earlier car so I kept bidding on eBay. I finally won one and what's different between the two kits? Two parts! The hood and the grill. Same with the Pacers.
  5. Well, I'm sitting here waiting for the next storm to hit tomorrow night. I don't have to physically go to work until next Monday. My boss said he won't be there the next three days so to work from home. So tomorrow I'll go out for supplies, then dig in!
  6. My favorite is when a newbie comes on the board and says on his Bucket List, his life would be complete, if he could have a model of his old 1965 Fratzog Sedan. We all get excited thinking we can connect this guy with his dream car, and go to the effort of advising him that it's never been kitted, but Modelhaus has cast it for $75! Amen! Fantastic! This guy's life should be all milk and honey.... but noooo... he comes back and says he won't pay that. He wants a manufacturer to spend $200,000 to tool it up as a kit. And he'll wait until it goes to Michaels so he can use his friggin 40% off coupon! Argh!
  7. Anyone remember Beatlemania on Broadway? I went to see it twice back in the early 1980s (two different girl friends ) I tend to like the lesser heard songs. Like on the special when they did "Get Back", I was hoping they'd continue on into "Dig A Pony" like on the album! I did watch the special and enjoyed every minute. I saw on my DVR last night that my wife had taped it. What good fortune. We must watch it again (zipping through the commercials of course!) before it falls off the bottom for disk space!
  8. What is the reliability of Volkswagen these days? I know two people who got rid of New Beetles because they were always paying for repairs. I recently worked with a woman who would tell you she loved her Jetta.. I personally witnessed it being towed out of our company lot twice. Both different computer / electrical problems. Many years ago I worked with a guy who had a huge poster of a Peugeot diesel over his desk. So I asked and he told me what a great car it was and how he wouldn't own anything else. Then another guy in the office whispered to me, "Ask him about the time it stranded him on vacation in upstate New York and had to be towed hundreds of miles to the nearest dealer!" He also said the Peugeot dealer was on his way to work, so he got to pick this guy up there when the car was being repaired... often! But still this guy would crow on about what a great car it was!
  9. Those same guys moved to Nigeria and are now in the email business! :-)
  10. Very nice. I especially appreciate the variety in your vegetation!
  11. Very nice light commercial build. I was happy to find one of the panel van versions on sale at a local hobby shop for $20 this past weekend. I will build it light commercial too, in the colors of my grandfather's old business.
  12. I too watched it beginning to end and enjoyed it immensely! I remember back before John Lennon was killed, there was always speculation about a Beatles Reunion. When I heard he was dead, one of my first thoughts was that it now could never happen. I was a little tyke when the Beatles came to America but I remember kids in the neighborhood talking about them. I remember my father being displeased, but in his later years he had Beatles and Elton John CDs. Quite a change for The Major! I do remember the talk about these scruffy hooligans coming from England to ruin the American youth. When we saw the clip of the Ed Sullivan show, we were amazed at how clean cut they were by today's standards. They even had matching suits! I guess that was way too much hair in the days when near everyone had a crew cut!
  13. Kids today aren't whining that kits used to be $2. They are in the here and now. If a video game or sneakers are $100, so be it. They don't think of that as a lot of money, but 40 years from now when sneakers are $400, they'll be reminiscing about the good ole days just like us. I was speaking to a guy in a hobby shop a while back. A 'one of us' guy I've known a long time. His perception is that kids of today who do want to build a model will come into the shop and they're looking for modern subjects. They won't flinch that a Tamiya Honda kit is $60. Then they'll buy another $60 worth of supplies to build it.
  14. Wow Wayne, I didn't know you were a Prius!
  15. This is the heart of the problem. The media has cried wolf so many times, just because they have airtime to fill and nothing to say, that nobody listens to warnings any more. When Hurricane Sandy was on it's way in, people were not evacuating the coastal areas. NJ Governor Christie took to the airwaves himself, pleading with people that this was the real deal... (actually he said something like you had to be really stupid to stay!) And a day later they were fishing those folks off their roofs.
  16. Mike, I see you are new to the board so I'll cut you some slack. If you are interested in learning the actual market conditions, read the posts. Yes, a lot of our kits are produced from tooling made a long time ago. But it's not 'long paid for' since the company owners of all the companies are fairly recent and paid a lot of money for those companies. So the tooling isn't free and clear, it's like you buying a 1972 Chevy today. Yea, it's an old car that the original owner had paid off a very long time ago, but it's gone through many hands since, and you paid with it in 2014 dollars. Same applies. And the market has changed greatly. The manufacturers are not selling anywhere near the quantities of kits they did in the heyday. Back when kits were $2. any kit could be a million unit seller. Today, a new tooling that sells 25,000 on it's first outing is a winner. If you can figure the cost of tooling today and divide that across units sold, you'd wonder why they even bother.
  17. Cool work. I had a 1:1 tear drop trailer way back in the early 1980s before they were fashionable. As you can see I towed it behind my '65 Barracuda. Mine was home built but the work was pretty well done. Everything, including the inner frame was stainless. The big issue with it was that they put the wheels so far back, that all the weight was on the trailer tongue and hitch. That put the poor Barracuda rear on the ground, so I had Hijackers air shocks on it, just to keep it level. It handled scary and I'm glad we never had to do any emergency maneuvers because I don't think it would have responded well. Because of this I only kept it one season. The interior of mine was backwards from what you are building. The space in front of the side doors was a thin closet where you had to bend the hangers sideways on the rod. Our heads were against this. On the end where you have overhead cabinets, there was a small window on either side behind the doors. Over this was a deep shelf that was over our legs. Between the cab and kitchen, visible from inside at our feet was a thin square water tank.
  18. I almost forgot that this one showed up in my broken mailbox! Got it for $15 on eBay, and I want to turn it into my sister-in-law's old car. Add lime green paint, black interior, NJ plates and some well placed stickers... I did buy the kit for this project for my own shelf, but once we got talking about her first car and she had such fond memories, I wanna give it to her... so the promo is probably best for a gift to a non-model person. Mary got a brand new car Mary got the one she was savin' for Now everyone here is so charged Mary never looked so good before And we wanna go where she goes We wanna listen to her radio Can we ride? Mary can we ride? Can we ride? Mary can we ride?
  19. Did Danbury actually produce and or ship any of the Hollingsworth Nomads? I surely wanted one of those!
  20. Apparently I got a new title! Instead of being an MCM Ohana, I'm now Prince of Valiants. I guess that makes me royalty! Thanks guys! So I changed my avatar to match...
  21. The NNL East name tags came in yesterday and they look pretty good. We're hoping everyone will want to wear 'em. And this should help folks find one another at the show. I hate it when people say "I was looking for Jiminy all day and never got to meet him." That means the show wasn't all it could have been for those two! So we needed to fix that.
  22. Duplicate post
  23. My Ted (he's a Cockapoo) is 14 and starting to show his age. He's having trouble jumping up on furniture. He'll try, miss and wait for assistance. He hesitates to go down the staircase (full flight hardwood steps, I don't blame him!) so I'll grab him up and carry him down. And he's cranky in his old age. He'll growl if he doesn't like something. Oh, I know it's just a matter of time. Both my wife and I have had dogs since we were kids, but now in our mid 50s, Ted will be the last, not wanting to take on another 15 year commitment. We said that the last time when my terrier Sandy died. It took us six years to get another dog. And that was sad. You don't realize how much a dog is part of your daily life until they're not there anymore. When Sandy died, I continued to 'step wide' when I got out of bed or off the couch, as if he would still be sleeping there. And every night when I let him out in the yard for his last call at night, I'd stand out on the back steps and breath the fresh air. I actually continued to do that for a while!
  24. Cool. Here's one I started a long time ago. I wanted to copy the drawing that I think came from Scale Auto Mag
  25. I have two china cases and a curio cabinet for my models. The first china cabinet I got from my sister when she bought her house, the former owner left it and she didn't want it. That one was free. My second china cabinet was bought at a 2nd hand furniture store for $125. My curio cabinet was found at the curb. Someone put it out for garbage. Funny story, I bring it inside and it's a dark wood. My wife had an identical cabinet in a lighter wood. She decided the dark wood went better in her decorating, so she traded me. I have the light wood one in my model room. I also have a three foot long store display case that's out in the garage waiting refurbishing. I found that on a garbage night too. Same time frame that I found the dark wood curio cabinet, another house put out 8 nice dining room chairs. I didn't need them but heck they were free. I took a few pictures and sold them for $200 on Craig's List. So it's a matter of keeping your eye out. Craig's List, even check the free section. Watching the curb on garbage night. Our hauler takes big items on the last pickup of the month so I'll drive around then. Flea markets, garage sales... you'll find one eventually.
