I never smoked, but my Dad did until the day he died. He didn't believe that second-hand smoke was harmful, so he constantly smoked inside the house. I would get respiratory infections every couple of months, but he refused to believe there was a connection, even when the doctors told him. After he passed, you could still smell the smoke that had been absorbed by the house, even years later. When I moved out on my own, and was no longer exposed to the cigarette smell everyday, my senses of smell and taste eventually opened up, and I was amazed at what I had been missing.
