  1. Perhaps the guy just cut a hole in the hood that he thought would be "good enough," perhaps the tree hasn't "stopped growing," and perhaps the photo happened to be taken at a point when the tree had grown enough to fill in the space? I think you might be making things more complicated than they actually are, Harry.
  2. Rage Against the Machine, "Year of tha Boomerang"
  3. Thanks, Wayne. My wife actually paints with acrylics, and she said I can use some of hers. I should have asked her in the first place, but I got caught up in overthinking things.
  4. I noticed this thread recently, and I thought I might have something that would fit. I was working on kit of the Ford GT, when I realized the engine was just miserable. It didn't have headers! I had the idea to replace the engine block with something to represent a sci-fi-worthy clean energy engine, and I sourced a torso assembly from a Gundam model that fits perfectly. Problem is, I don't know when I can get back to it, as I already have a couple projects in progress. Do you think this fits within the community build?
  5. Guys, I'd appreciate some input. I want to mount my Bat-Pod on a display base, and I had the idea to make a road surface with divider lines for the display base. I cut a piece of appropriately-colored sandpaper to represent asphalt. I masked off double lines, and tried misting on some yellow paint. As I was applying paint, I noticed the paint seemed to be disappearing. When I moved the masking tape, the paint had run under the tape. I wonder if any of you folks have any better ideas. I've been googling for techniques with no luck. I thought I might pick up some acrylic gel medium from the art store, maybe some textured stuff, and tint it with yellow acrylic pigment. Maybe it will be thick enough not to run under the tape? I also just thought of maybe putting the acrylic gel into a very shallow mold to make narrow strips, letting it dry until solid-yet-malleable, and then gluing it on the sandpaper. Am I on the right track? Once I get this done, I want to detail with oil stains, dirt and garbage.
  6. That custom van was made by Liberty Walk / LB Works, and Aoshima has been producing kits of some of Liberty Walk's customs, so maybe... But probably not.

  8. I recently picked up the 32 sedan / phaeton, from the Dirt Track Racers reissue. I think that might be my next car build, after I wrap up my current entry to the "All The Rest" community build. I have the chrome parts in the purple pond, and the basecoat is still hanging on really tight in places. I want to get it all off because it was applied very heavily, and is obscuring some details.
  9. Perhaps the sudden acceleration knocked him unconscious.
  10. DARN YOU AUTOCORRECT! I should have caught that. :-(
  11. I certainly hope it's more stable than a Reliant Robin.
  12. Wayne, your tank looks great, and I really like that terrain. Joe, very nice work on that bike.
  13. So I got bored. (Yes, this one did happen to me.) (For context, this meme is called "Anti-Joke Chicken.") (This meme is the "Bad Advice Cat.")
  14. 12 Angry Men The Day the Earth Stood Still It's a Wonderful Life The Iron Giant Star Trek: First Contact ...which is just the ones I can think of off the top of my head.
  15. Assuming your flip phone doesn't have any side-mounted buttons, some combination of which might just possibly unlock the phone while it is still closed, and assuming the phone company didn't change the defaults or have some kind of glitch, then hacking might still be the culprit. Do you have a passcode set to access your voicemail? If you do, you may want to change it. If you don't have a passcode set, I suggest setting one. When we talk about hacking voicemail, we're not necessarily talking about people sitting at banks of computers cracking code, we're also talking about people who find phone numbers, or randomly dial phone numbers, press * to access the menu, and then punch in "0000" to see if it gives access.
  16. Your mobile provider may be different, but with all the mobile providers I know of, you don't need access to the phone. If somebody calls your cell phone, and knows your access code, they can listen to your messages and change your settings. Did you happen to leave your voicemail access code on the provider's default, or leave it unsecured?
  17. I'm calling old Bats here finished. I painted the eyes pure white to represent the virtual reality goggles Batman used near the end of "The Dark Knight," which was an homage to the way Batman is often depicted in the comics and animated productions, and has absolutely nothing to do with with me not being able to paint eyes properly. Seriously, why would you even suggest that? How rude. I know these pics aren't very good. I couldn't get enough ambient light on my subject, and when I tried using the flash it just washed out all detail. When / if I get my Tumbler Batmobile built, this figure will be displayed with it. I'm going to use the advice I received from you guys, along with what I learned while painting this figure, when painting the seated rider Batman figure. Thanks for the knowledge, guys.
  18. Hey James, I have the rally version of that kit, mostly finished. The rally version is almost identical to the street version, except for dirt tires and rally lights. I can tell you, it is a rather nice kit, that fits together well. The only reason I didn't finish is that I decided I want to add fender flares and wider wheels, and I didn't feel like I was ready to do the body work.
  19. I know of a few science-fiction kits that were molded in clear, either as a gimmick or to facilitate lighting.
  20. I was born my papa's son, when I hit the ground I was on the run. I had one glad hand and the other behind. You can have yours, just give me mine. When the hound dog barkin' in the black of the night, stick my hand in my pocket, everything's all right.
  21. Will the wind ever remember The names it has blown in the past, And with this crutch, its old age and its wisdom It whispers, "No, this will be the last."
  22. Wayne, that Headless Horseman looks great! The face seems a little familiar, it reminds me a little bit of the actor Alan Cumming, maybe crossed with a bit of the British TV presenter Jonathan Ross. Thanks for the paint advice. I'll try the 50/50 mix of black and German grey, as you suggest. I was already going to do a wash on the face after some touching up, but I just spaced on doing one for the belt. I know the bat-symbol on the chest is supposed to match the finish of the body armor, but I took a bit of license with that and the metallic gauntlets. I think I'll be using this photo for reference:
