I'm irked to find out I might have gout. I'm waiting for confirmation from blood tests, but it does fit with my symptoms of waking up every once in while feeling like I bashed my toe with a hammer, and not remembering doing anything the day before that could have caused a sprain. I'm also irked to have read the pile of neanderthal nonsense on the previous page of this thread.

My wife used to build models before we had kids. She hasn't built anything since then, but she will still buy a kit here and there if it's something that catches her interest. Now, she writes (science fiction, fantasy, romance and combinations of all three), draws and occasionally paints. I have one of her paintings and one of her sketches hanging near my workbench. She recently picked up a wooden dollhouse kit, but hasn't started on it yet as she is currently recovering from surgery. While she recovers, she's been looking for ideas on finishing techniques.

Looking good, Krishna! If you are interested in adding a turret to your camo Tumbler, there is a resin conversion kit available: http://www.bradhairproductions.com/BHP_STORE.html I have both the Batpod and Tumbler in my stash as well. The Tumbler is packed in so tight, I don't want to take anything out of the box until I'm ready to get started on it.

Hobby Room/Workbench questions
Danny Lectro replied to AMT4EVR's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I've got a really large workbench that I bought at Costco for a good price (which of course still has a really small area left for actual work). Underneath that I have three of these little metal storage units: http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/40107872/ which hold paints, parts, decals, greeblies, geegaws, and some tools. On top, I have a glass cutting board, but I never really use it anymore, mostly because it got cluttered with paint bottles. I bought the glass after reading that its inherent flatness makes it perfect for building things that have to be level, like race car suspensions. I do my cutting on a self-healing mat. My light comes from what was already built into my basement ceiling, plus a hanging fluorescent shop-light I picked up at Costco. I have a second shop-light hanging over my painting area. -
Thanks for the add! Some preliminary sub-assemblies, plus the manual to show what I am building: Joint parts painted in Testors Titanium Metallizer: White sub-assemblies, waiting for paint: Not shown are the white parts currently in primer. This will be a straight from the box build. I usually do custom paint schemes for my Gundam models, but I will stick with the white for this one. On top of that, I plan to apply a clearcoat with some Pearl-Ex interference gold mixed in. The pilot of this particular mobile suit is supposed to be a flamboyant, hot-dog type, and I wanted to reflect that.

I just found this CB today. I have a Gundam model that according to the time stamp on my photos, I started on February 11th. I have some build photos as well. Can I join in? My model is the 1/144 G-Exes from the Gundam AGE series. If you folks are good with me joining, I'll work on getting my photos uploaded.

Geoff, I think this is looking great. I love the color you chose. I know you only do factory stock, but if you don't mind my asking: do you think the suspension on this kit would lend itself to lowering without the need for extensive fabrication? Thank you!

LHS (Local Hobby Shop)
Danny Lectro replied to 69NovaYenko's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Bruckner Hobbies in Bronx, NY. It's the only decently stocked LHS in driving distance. I get all my supplies there, and I will buy kits there unless there is a huge price difference from buying online, or if they just don't / won't carry something. I'll visit every couple of weeks, if I have the funds to spare. I will sometimes visit Red Caboose Hobbies in Manhattan, as they have a very extensive selection of paints. I've found some vintage kits there for really good prices, but later releases are just too expensive. -
Other modelling genres
Danny Lectro replied to racedriver25's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I build Gundams and other giant robots from Japanese science fiction, sci-fi fighters and ships, real-world fighter planes both classic and modern, and real-world armor. I have dabbled with real-world Naval combat ships in 1/700 scale. -
Fujimi makes an S13 Sileighty: http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/10243784 I have no experience with the kit, however, and I can't comment on quality.

Stupid things people say at car shows
Danny Lectro replied to Jantrix's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
The thing about Jaywalking, is the only people who make it onto the broadcast are the ones with the stupid answers. Correct answers end up on the cutting room floor. They skew the sample towards the stupid end of the spectrum for some cheap laughs. -
AMT 32 Ford "Deuce" 10/27/17 '59 Impala dash!
Danny Lectro replied to Foxer's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Wow, this looks really good. Nice idea on using the SHO v6. My thought for the wheels would be gunmetal. It looks dark and menacing, but doesn't just blend in with the black of the tires. -
Excellent work, Bob. I particularly like the design of your roll cage.

How did you melt yours?
Danny Lectro replied to Lunajammer's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I just remembered one I ruined about 7 or 8 years ago. I was researching less toxic ways of stripping paint, and found a reference to using Pine Sol. I thought to myself, "That sounds like it should go easy on the plastic!" But I ran with it and didn't absorb the warnings in the article. I checked on my parts after a soak, and found the surface softened and runny. I went back to the article, ready to bite somebody's head off, and saw they had warned about that very possibility. I felt really stupid that day, especially since the kit was an expensive, limited run import. -
Engine sources
Danny Lectro replied to RadialDragon's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I have a Fujimi 1/24 Nissan 240z that comes with a really nice single cam straight six. Their Z432 version has a twin cam straight six. Even though those kits come with engines, the hoods are molded closed and the engine bays have zero detail. I will build the car curbside and save the engine for a weirdo hot rod or rat rod. -

I bought AMT's Double Dragster kit just for engines to use in kitbashes. One early style Hemi with options for eight single-bbl carbs, fuel injection, or a belt-driven blower, and two small block Chevies, with fuel injection or crank mounted blowers. The SBCs have parts to join them in tandem or side-by-side. I have yet to actually put any of it together, so I can't comment on quality yet.
