1953 Ford Country Squire Wagon - completed 3/18
IceMan Collections replied to IceMan Collections's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Im going to have to take a trip to the hobby shop and compare the colors. I'll check for some of those. I'm kind of glad I decided to strip it all. I finally got the paint I needed to match the factory color. Along with another 180 bottle is factory colors but that's a different thread. Here are some co,parison shots from the blue I was using to the new blue that matches. Gotta work on those pillars since they seem to have weakened when I stripped it. One is missing already. -

Thank you so much for the help. I actually have all the stock colors coming in this week so I plan to use one of those. Glacier blue and ivory is what I used here. Not sure if the pics or the colors on each monitor capture that. I'm not sure I want to paint the wood panels though. I'm interested in how the painted panels would look instead of the actual wood. I'm willing to try it. PM coming your way Tom. Again, thanks for all the help gentlemen. -

A bit disappointed today. I've attempted to pain the trim with a brush and I"m just not getting the look I want. With that, the contrasting wood panels and some scratches on the front right fender, I've thrown it in the pond. Going to start the body over. -

Thanks Carl. So I started on the trim work tonight. A few first layers. Very tedious. I dont know what I got myself into... -
By the looks of the 40 AND the doors of the building, it looks like you got rust down to a perfect science! Look great!

Thanks for following this one Carl & Lee. Here's a small update on this one. Finally got the wood and some time on the bench. After a few attempts here is the left side. -

Thanks Carl. Here is today's work. Re-did the main bracket. Initially put too many fittings and it looked bulky. I think it looks way better now. Added the brackets in the rear as well. All that's left is to finish up that section and attach to the wheels. Added the decals to the air and oil filters. And finished up the inner fenders. -

Thank Chad and Lee. I hope my interior looks half as good as that. Been working on that E brake. Scratch building a few small parts before assembly. Might do a couple over again. -

Thank for the comments Lee, Bill, Carl, Dan and Jim. Here is tonight's update. Fuel tank straps are on. Engine and exhaust are in. Fuel line from tank connected to the pump. Working on the battery details. Used .20 rod for posts and a couple of PE parts for dress up. -

Thanks Jonathan. Small amount of work now that I re-opened my eBay store up again. I guess a little bit of progress is better than none. I just wet sanded, re-coated and cleared the body so I can move on the the next colors. Forgot to take pics but will when the clear dries. Added a bit of color to the underside and started adding the fuel tank straps. -

Thanks for sharing that interior. It does look nice. I never heard back from Jerry at Resin Realm for the paint I wanted it. He asked me what colors and then emails stopped. This was a little over a week ago. I was looking for Glacier blue and asked him to quote me a price on about 10 bottles of other colors too. Disappointed I never heard back. Probably busy with life so I understand. I went to the auto shop and looked for the closest color I could find. Came home with Dupli-Color. Avignon Blue Metallic. I love it. It goes perfect. Here's a pic. -
Thanks guys. I appreciate your words. A fun little build.

I built this one along with the red bomb I built. Finished it off today with a few little details and stuck it in the shelf.

Thanks guys. Those bolts sure were a pain. And they still are. I just noticed in some of the pics I took that some fell off. Will have to replace a few. This weekend was busy. Taking down Christmas lights and decorations. I didn't get as much time on the bench as I wanted but I don't want to be THAT house, you know. I did however add some silver/aluminum to the carb and fuel pump to correct the color on those two pieces. Thanks for catching that David. Will also be drilling one more hole in the pump for the line that will lead to the tank later. Ive a started painting parts from the chasis. Pics on that later. I did lay primer the body. Got tired of seeing it there in resin tan. Big difference I think. -
That's looking great, Jeff. All the little details will pay off in the end.

You're absolutely correct, Lee. For 1952 and 1953, Ford continued to use tangerine red but also used this green. I had never done a green engine in any of my builds so I tried it. -

Thanks guys. Lee - Havent decided on a color yet, but I did order a few of the factory colors. After a few tests I should be deciding. David - I'll probably go back and touch up a few things so thank you for that. I wont worry about the linkage since I wont be adding it. What you see there is the fuel line on the correct side. -

I have been working more on the engine. I started off by painting the bolts on the flatheads and it just didn't look right. Decided to do the tedious work of adding individual bolts all around them. Also wired the distributor. The cap looks a bit messy so I have to figure out a way of cleaning it up without pulling the wires. Any suggestions are appreciated. Here are a few pics. -

Thank guys. Yes, Lee. That is the challenge I've issued myself. Bone stock for this one. -

Still working on the engine. Spent too much time looking for a linkage pic. Here's a little more work on the engine. Some semi gloss black here and there. Also, added the fuel line from the pump to the carb. Sprayed some Alclad aluminum on the exhausts. These parts should be going on this weekend. Going to use a distributor from R&M. It's my first time with this style from them. I used a 40s crab style one for an older build before. I'm not used to using wire this thin but I can see how it looks more accurate. The wire is from Detail Master and its .012 in diameter. Need some help guys. I'm looking for a close-up pic of the throttle linkage if possible. I'm sure it's not that difficult to put together but if I'm going to do that, I might as well do it right. I found a lot of diagrams with all of the parts but since I don't know what it should look like, if anyone has a closeup pic, it would help. Thanks -
Thank you everyone. Yours words mean a lot. Bruce, the hood ornament came from the same 39 sedan delivery I took the hood from. I believe it's the lowrider kit.
-
Thanks everyone. I really appreciate you taking the time to comment. Horsepower - a pet peeve huh? Wow. You must see this pretty often for it to annoy you so much. I'm sure you noticed that this was not build to replicate the 39 from factory choices. The same thought crossed my mind when I was building it but as I looked at more and more pictures for inspiration, I found enough to see that it is a 1:1 possibility and I went with it. I love the way it looks. Maybe your reaction is more based on the thickness of it. Here's the pic that convinced me to do it.
