1966 Oldsmobile 442 (WCFL Radio New Car)

Automotive paints are almost always too hot for plastics, and automotive clear can be very tricky.
-
After letting the filler settle, got it in paint. Testors Wimbledon White, AKA Polar White in Mercspeak. Tamiya clear. Had to be decanted and airbrushed because the newer Testors spray cans only last a year or two before they start leaking at the seams. Interior is red with maroon carpet.

Very nice job on a kit you rarely see built, great period color combo as well.
-
I like the color. I'd be tempted to build it nice rather than weathered at this point.
-
Very nice, looks like you nailed the proportions.

That was common practice on TV shows in the '60s and '70s. Note the dull coated mirror on the Falcon in Adam-12.

Neat, I don't think I've ever seen one built nicely.

I'd like to do one like this, stock with vinyl top and skirts. No idea where the stock wheel covers would come from, Maybe someone offers 3D printed ones?

Raised the grille about about 1/16", which also allowed the scoops to be narrowed. Doesn't seem like much, but in this scale, it tightened it up. Before:

Thanks Ray. Moved the rear bumper/grille up to match the new 1/4 panel position. Shaved the bottoms of the 1/4s to bring them back up to the bumper. This was a big improvement, giving the back of the car the long, lean appearance that the Comets had, and that this kit was lacking. Next up is to move the front bumper/grille up which should hopefully have the same effect on the front appearance.

The struggle is real!

This is coming out very well, and fast too. The color, engine and wheels give it a 427 Cobra vibe that the original show car never had, and it works.

Those downhill sloping pontoons were crushing my soul. Once you see, you cannot unsee. This will necessitate moving the rear bumper/grille up to match the new taillight location, and why not also move the front bumper/grille up since it also sits too low. I've still convinced myself that I'm not getting carried away.

Thanks for the tips Alan. Do you mean the Lindberg Show Rods kit? I've seen that one but I'll give it a closer look now, along with the diecast cars for wheels - though the selection of those lately has not been very good. The lack of plastic shows and swap meets hasn't helped either, hopefully those will come back soon.

Looks like a 289 long block.

After too much staring and contemplating, I decided that the headlights needed bezels more than anything else. So I made a set out of Evergreen tube. Also shown are the trial and error examples, including ill-fated aluminum attempts.

It's nice to have a friend with a lathe. It's nicer when he knows how to use it. Its nicer still when he is an ex Hollywood movie model and prop maker, with a list of props that you have seen, like parts of the spinner cars from Blade Runner, the deep sea submersible from Titanic, and countless airplanes and dystopian future apocalypse vehicles. It took him like 8 minutes to turn the Torq-Thrust wheels down.
