AMT 1963 Chevy Wagon, "Craftsman Plus"
Maindrian Pace replied to doorsovdoon's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Very nice job, it really does look like a period fire/rescue chief's car. -
A friend in the model club bought this minty and rare MPC '71 Demon, knowing the major problem that this kit has - the front wheel openings are Duster/Valiant, not the completely different Demon/Dart that they should be. I had no idea - but once you see it, it's an obvious mistake. So he asked me if I could correct them to the proper shape, and blend the engine compartment from the current tool Duster 340 kit so this can be cast as a transkit to be used with that Duster kit. "Oh, and could you please not use the mint $300 Demon kit as a base for this?" No problem, I guess. So he cast the Demon body and gave me a resin copy to hack away on. Working with resin masters can be tricky, but what isn't. I printed a photo of a Demon left side and sketched in the new opening. Had to add some resin in the upper rear corners to allow for the new shape. I then made patterns to trace the left side onto the right side so both were identical. I made a scribing tool to make the curved depression above the wheel wells - a detail lacking in previous efforts to correct this body. After fitting the kit hood and grille, the final step was to relocate the right fender Pentastar more rearward, done by foil casting a new emblem and putting it in the right place. Top - original Demon body.

Good news, everyone!

Great conversion work, perfect proportions from all angles.

This little car is looking better all the time. Saving the unsavable is one of my favorite things to do.

Beautiful job on the engine and wheels, this one is going to be a stunner. -
You did that rare kit plenty of justice, that may be the nicest built version I've yet seen. Beautiful job.
-
Super nice job, very correct looking conversion.

That interior is just comin atcha live!

Nice work. You should be able to get another decal sheet from R-M to fix the hood. If at first you don't succeed...

One look at the model, and I instantly knew who built it before seeing who posted the thread. Stunning, as always, and this may be the first plastic kit I've seen (or noticed) that you have built.

Beautiful job on a car seldom, or perhaps never seen in the hobby, which is a good thing.
-
Quite a nice build, and a lovely color combo too.

Contact Greg Wann on the forum for info on the Crown Vic.

Missed it the first time around, but glad to see it now. What can I say? An amazing build in every detail.

Wow, never seen a Vega get the full house low rider treatment, but that looks great!

Sharp, clean, and mint!

As do I, or a spoon test; always a good practice. -
Very impressive conversion from the Delta 88, which has an almost entirely different body and different wheelbase.

Thanks. I still need to make a tach out of something, and then the end of this build is near.

76-77 LeMans Enforcer 0r Smokey & Bandit Sheriff Justice Car
Maindrian Pace replied to DEL's topic in WIP: Model Cars
I got Dwayne's master a couple of weeks ago to make sure it was ready for its date with the silicone. After a very light sanding with 1000 grit paper, it was. Amazing work, perhaps Dwayne's most accurate car to date. Chief Joseph did the wheel and tire masters just for this model, both the steelies and dog dish caps and the "shower drain" Pontiac wheel covers. I don't know exactly how he does this, but his parts are perfect to the tiniest detail, right down to the valve stems. Special Police lettered tires will also be included. I am working on the glass buck, and I'll do the glass sets that will come with the kits.- 115 replies
