condensation problems in air gun
A.R.C. replied to rustisacolour's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I`m assuming its hot there right now. I always drain my tank after using and keep the drain valve open during hot weather so condensation cant build inside it, and make sure my Compressor and lines are always in a shaded, cool area. I also run 2 filters. A big oil/water seperator at the pump and a smaller filter at the gun. -
I`m a big Tom Daniels fan and have always loved the Red Baron, but being one of those people that can never leave well enough alone I decided to make a V-8 Baron. Dont really know for sure what the motor is because everything came from the parts box then built a set of heads to fit the valve covers and topped it off with a homebuilt intake scoop. All I know is that its big and loud and hope T.D. would approve. Had to do a fair bit of cutting to get the big block in there. Stretched the frame 7mm then gave it a bit of a rake for a more aggressive stance. Lowered the front 3mm by lengthening the height of the uprights on the front axle, reshaped the firewall, interior floorboard, and bottom of the body to make room for the Transmission. Engine plate up front and a new tranny mount out back then added a huge set of Mickey Thompsons out back that came off of a Slammers snap together Caprice.

Good looking ride Doc. I like it, but isnt it a little shiny for you? I dont see a rust spot or dent anywhere. Merry Christmas to you too.

Unlimited for me. 70`s is too close to the early 80`s we did last year. I`ve had this terribly rude idea brewing away for a couple years and this`ll give me the push I need to do it.

I love it! That stance is perfect. -
You have to stop and look at the Badman for what it is, not necessarily to a young builder but to us "ahem" older guys that remember it from waaaay back when. In my opinion its an iconic model...more so than any of the other re-releases that have came out in the last few years. I always buy a model or start a custom build with the thought in my head," what would this be like and what kind of impression would it make if it was a real car rolling down the street". And if you look at Badman in that light, even right out of the box ...........it would be one baaaaaad mother. When I was 10 I got the Badman for Christmas from my oldest sister. It was the coolest model I had even seen, and one of the coolest gifts I had ever gotten. It really stuck with me. I still remember the huge slicks, that big chrome blower and the outrageous "396" and "Badman" decals on the side. I didnt even know what a 396 was but the decals were sure cool! My Dad helped me build it because I wanted to do a really good job and not screw it up. For the most part he instructed me and then put the decals on because they were too tough for me do do properly. It was by far the coolest model on my shelf and I loved it right up until the moment I screwed it up by trying to do my first lowering and tub job 2 years later. When I saw it on the shelf in a Hobby shop many years later all those memories came back to me in an instant, I could even smell the distinct scent of the Lepages model glue that we used, and everything was cool again. Yeah its a basic model, and now that I know what a 396 is I know for sure that THATS NO 396! The molded in exhaust is a drag and shouldnt be there, its terrible and detracts from the model but who cares. I have the modeling skills now that I could have gotten rid of the molded exhaust, put a real 396 in it and built the heck out of it to make it a show worthy piece but instead I took it home, got right to it and built it box stock (aside from the BMF which was a first for me) in a day and enjoyed every second of it just as every 10 year old should. No smoothing the mold seams out of the body then covering it in perfect paint. Not even a clear coat over the plastic to give it shine. Just wash the body, trim some flash and get on with the show. It was the model that really got me fired up on modelling as a kid and every model I built after that I tried to make as cool as the Badman without much success. In my later teens I stopped building models and didnt build for many years until the day I found it in that Hobby shop. Thanks to Tom Daniels and the Badman my spirit to build was re-kindled and I`ve been doing it and enjoying it ever since.

Thanks Al. TJ the bike is a Jesse James miniature from Maisto. I refinished with the gold flake and white seat. I call it Vegas 73. Maybe I`ll change my signature to "I converted Crazy Jim"

Man did you nail it!! Very cool.

Its a Dupont Lacquer slush. A GM color called Torch Red. Its very bright in person, the pics dont do it justice. Its a nice building car Jim, you`ll enjoy it.

Hahaha, geez I must have did a good job if ShinyJim even likes it. I cant take credit for the idea Luna. I saw this done in a 1:1 34 Ford coupe about 10 years ago. I lost the pics of it or I`d post em up. It was dont up in a salt flat racer style and was to this date the coolest coupe I have ever seen. Thanks all.

I built this one last year for a Cannonball on another site. The theme was a Cannonball set in the early 80`s. The general idea was low, fast and bad. Its been lowered, wider tires on widened steelies were added. Headers out of the parts box were installed with a custom exhaust. Gave the interior a skookum rollbar with steering wheel, seats and console out of a 69 Z-28.
