'74 Pro street Road Runner Update 6-22-08
george 53 replied to Custom Hearse's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Its a good thing that AMT came out with some good kits before they went to pot, cause now we can build up some NICE models from the old MPC kits useing the new kit parts!Your RR is comin out great.nice job of adapting all the new stuff to the old body!I'm kinda growin tired of the Plum Crazy color but that in NO WAY takes anything from your build. Keep it up an lets see more!!! -
It was fun I got them all right. Not hard at all.
-
OH yeah FURD STOLE this idea when they made the copy cat 302/351 Cleveland Boss motors in 69(that WONT interchange with other furd motors of the SAME displacement)
-
Ismael They arent "hemi" heads as much as "semi hemi" heads. THey are Big BLock style heads specially cast to fit a small block chevy. With matching Intake and exhast manifolds,Think Small Big block.
-
Actually Bill,it isa 69 z-28 with a cross ram intake but, its the HEADS that make it unique. There a VERY raer set of porkypine heads made to fit ona small block. They were a Smokey Yunick creation in conjunction with Chevy racing.only a few pairexsist like 3 or 4.Made of "unobtainium"

Ya had me on edge there Harry, as good as you are, I wasn't sure if you could photoshop that reflection on the top rear of that quarter panel. But, If it could be done I'm sure YOU coulda done it.Another great one Harry!!!

71 Duster Cowl Hood?
george 53 replied to Tuffy's Garage's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Tuff, couldnt ya get one of the resin hoods for a Camaro An just cut it oFF and mold it onto your Duster's hood?Just a suggestion. -
Yeah,Eddie, Yellow looks great on that car.No, sorry theres no comin back from super glue fogging. You might try sanding it back down to semi clear if there not too bad, but can you get them out without breakin em?(the lenses). If you can, try brushin on some future floor polish on em, that might bring back some of the transparency(after you sand em back out)

Clay The 9th wire goes from the CENTER terminal on the distributor to a coil, that can be anywhere you want to put it.It's usually on the firewall and it's a canister looking thing about 7or8 inches long and about 2or3 inches thick. You can make one from some sprue just take an equivalent size(to scale)an drill ahole in the center of it (it'll look like a firecracker) and attach it somewhere near the engine.Paint it black.Viola! a coil.(unless you wanna go with a HEI type ignitions,in which case, you won't need one) Semper Fi!!!

Ok Nick, After exhastive study and deep concentration, I have to stand corrected.Take a Good look at the front rim, it actually looks like theres a dent in it at the 1:00 position.Youd have to be a real stickler for detail to do that to a model. So I hafta change my guess to REAL!

we may be saying goodbye to Mercury
george 53 replied to gasman's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
G.M.'s Decline started in 76 when the bastige roger smith made all the corporate divisions use the same parts for all models.I worked a Fleetwood Fisher Body at the time, building the cabs for all the Cadillac models(the cars were finished at the Cadillac Main Plant)including the Eldorado and Olsmobile Toronado.By 1980 we were building Olds 98, Chevy Caprice,Station Wagons,AND Taxi cabs For fleet service,on a line that was exclusively Cadillacs for 70 years. It was extremely demoralizing.I don't expect ANYONE tounderstand,Ive heard ALL the Bullsh8t about "at least you got a job" We were ,at the time called the" Quality Craftsmen of The World" And Cadillac WAS the BEST car that G.M. offered at the time.(it still is in my opinion). When they bought in all the other divisions, and started using "generic" parts on all the cars there was no longer the feeling of pride that had for decades marked us as the Flagship of the Fleet.Like I said, If youve never worked on the assembly line I don't expect you to understand,But WE EARNED every penny we made! roger smith the bastige was the ONLY person responsible for what happened to G.M. He was a god da## accountant!!! He NEVER ran production,or even did any kind of job related ot the building of an automobile! All he knew was numbers. To hell with the workers that made the product or to the product itself. The sorry bastige retired and left G.M. just a shell of it's former self, while takin a couple million dollars in "retitrement pension" and stock options PLUS his Fu*#&! golden parachute options. That is the WHOLE problem today, these cars are designed,an engineered by been counters and NOT by men who WANT to build us a good looking, safe reliable automobile. The car guy's hands are tied by the accountants, and how much can we save/make for the company. -
GREAT JOB,Kurt. I've always thought those 60's era Ferraris were the prettiest of all.Just looked likr they were ready to pounce.Great job.(so nice I had to say it twice)

Well fellas, the times, they ARE achangein.Us older guys remember the 426 wedge's,440 GTX's,Hemi Roadrunners,396 Novas,427 Chevelles,428 SCJ Mustang's an 429 Cougars. But now, as has already been said, these cars did only one thing well,go from point a to point b as fast as possible. Now, these "muscle cars" can do this AND so much more,With the A/C goin full blast! I guess we just gotta re-think what We've learned and go with the flow.Yeah I ,for one really DO miss those original monsters. But my son -in-law had a 01 mustang 5pd that was pretty quick with that DOHC 4.6. Not as much fun as my ol 440 69 Charger R/T,But it was fun.I guess what I'm tryin to say is, If we really do love our "hot rods" we'll figure out a way to enjoy them,Even if gas gets up to 5/6 bucks a gallon. We may miss them ol Merc's But WE AIN'T gonna die without 'em.R.I.P.Mercury. -
Yeah Nick, I gotta agreewit Led,I think it's a model too. A NICE build, but it jus looks like one to me.I don't know, maybe the backgrounds a bit fuzzy,or somethin,.....

Bill, just what kit did you start with?I've got 2 of the old AMT 28 Fords from back in the 60's.But both of them are sedans.Did you make it into a Panel Delivery?Either way It came out great. You pick such nice colors to 2 tone.Does wifey-poo help or you just natcherly got effimate tastes?(not that you'd notice,or anything)Come back with a snappy reply, cuz ######'ns on hiatus an I need one!!
