It's been a very long time since I've posted anything on this build. Well, I have done a little work on it and I'm going to get-er-done now. Here are some pics of where i'm at now. I had to do a little more work on the top of the rear fenders to get them right. Thanks fer lookin. Dan

My first kit was some kind of airplane in the mid 50's, boy do I wish that I could remember which one. Then my next few kits were more planes. I didn't start cars until the early 60's, maybe 60 or 61. Whenever the 40 Fords came out. I don't really remember what the first car I built was. I do however have some of the first ones that I did build packed away in boxes. And, old dumb me thru away or shot up some really good and rare cars to boot. 60 Pontiac convertable, 62 Bonneville convertable, 49 Merc, Ala Cart, 25 T, 65 Mustang coupe and fast back, and a few others. Boy, I sure wish that I had them now. Dan

Great start Bradley. You've got far more done than I have on mine. The only thing that I've done is fill in the right front fender that is out of align and fix some of the sink holes. You're going to be finished way before I get going good on mine. Hope ta see ya at the next meeting. Dan -
Thanks Mike, I'm glad ya like it. She was a challange trying to figure out what went where and making the steering link. Dan

Outstanding James. She looks great. You've done a great job on restoring this car. Dan

WOW, thanks a lot guys for the kind comments. George, the tank is from the 1/24th scale P-51 kit. I think it's the Airfix kit. I had a lot of fun building this car. The windscreen is from a 1/48th scale Corsair. The rearend is from a 32 Ford kit as are two of the wheels. The other two are from a 29 Ford. The engine is from a 49 Merc and the seat is from the parts box. I scratch built the steering link from evergreen plastic rods. The exhaust pipes were cut from the custom exhaust from a Corvette kit. The radiator is a modified one from the 50 Ford convertable. The steering wheel is one from a WWII bomber kit cut to fit. The front axel is from a 32 Ford I believe and I drilled lighting holes in it. The parachute is from the parts box also. The color is aztec gold pearl powder mixed in clear. Thanks again guys. Dan

I searched for the previous posts on this build but couldn't find it. Probably because it's been so long ago that I worked on this build. Well, here are some pics of the finished car. Hope ya like it. Thanks fer lookin. Dan

[ quote name='Eric Stone' date='05 August 2010 - 02:05 PM' timestamp='1281031512' post='344988'] Oh, you know what, I think I'm wrong- the cheapie kits I'm thinking of aren't Airfix, they're Starfix.
-
Thanks guys. I'll try and find out what kit this is. It's not the Airfix kit. It's a name that I haven't heard of before. Dan
-
Well guys, I kinda snuck this one in. One of the guys in our club was going to throw this away because it is a horrible kit. Weeeeellllll, I said, don't throw it away, make a speed car out of it and he said, here, you make it. Sooooooo, here it is. It's a 1/72nd scale jet and I forget who made it. I don't reconize the name of the kit at all. Off the wall from overseas I think. Anyway, I had fun doing this. The name on the tail is for Walt Arfons. Now I have Walt, Art Arfons, Craig Breedlove and Mickey Thompson cars. Plus four others with no name attached to them. Well, the 53 Studebaker is Mr. Speed and the Corsair has What If on the side. Thanks fer lookin. Dan

How to simulate valour seats and vinyl seats
59 Impala replied to GMP440's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
What I used on these Studebaker seats is real soft plastic with the diamond shape for seat covers. What I don't remember is, is where I got the plastic. I think it was a wraper from one of my wifes make-up stuff. I had to glue it with Elmers glue and then clamp it so it would stick. After it dried it looked like real vinal seat covers. Dan -
What's ur favourite build?
59 Impala replied to cazxr2's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Probably Nellybelle cause it's the really first time that I did a lot of scratch building and kit bashing to accomplish one of my favorite TV vehicles. Plus it reminds me of a better time. Dan -
Build off ideas
59 Impala replied to remingtonbox's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I don't think that I'll be joining in on this CBP, but I have 6 LSC's that I've built over the years and I can post them if they would give someone an incentive to build different types of vehicles. Let me know and I'll post what I have. Thanks for the opportunity. Dan -
Thanks Jairus. When I built this I wanted to keep it simple and plain. I thought about puting some graphics on it but I couldn't come up with anything. I'm still thinking about that and still coming up blank. Any suggestions are wellcome. Dan

Well, I wish that I would have waited but that wouldn't have done any good for this plane, a Seafury. This is the first race plane that I built. I hope it's OK to post it here even though it's not qualified, but maybe someone can use some of the ideas that I used. I bobbed the wings and installed a prop and nose cone from a Spitfire. Plus smoothing the fuselage. If I can I'll try and do another plane for this. Dan

Thanks Mark for the pics. I'll copy them and put them in my file. I want to make this as accurate as possible. I'll also check out the others if I can. Dan

Cranky's Tissue Paper Upholstery & Headliner Quicky
59 Impala replied to Dr. Cranky's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
OK Virg, here goes. This is the result from using a rasor saw to scratch the sides of the body. Representing a rough ride thru the woods. You can see the scratches on the sides of the body in these two pics. Hope this helps ya a little. Dan -
Oh yes, another beauty Mark. I love this car. Where do you get all your information on these cars? I want to build Jim Reed's 59 Impala and I'm having a hard time finding any good reference pictures of it. Again, great build and conversion. Dan
