Thanks guys. Grant, I used Sofisticated Finishes product ( you can find it at Michaels Craft stores)to make the rust. It's a two part process and I love the stuff. First you paint on the gray paint which has some iron filings in it and let it dry. Next you paint on the liquid stuff and seal it in a bag and let it do it's thing, and presto you have real rust. I also used a dremel to grind out the plastic from the inside of the kit until it was kinda thin and next I used a xacto knife to scrape the plastic very carefully until I got the holes started. You have to be very careful not to gouge the place where you are cutting through for the holes. I also used some pastels for the engine bay and a little on the body. The exhaust was the first time that I did them this way. First I painted them with Testors steel paint and the painted the rust color and dumped some baking powder on them. The powder soaked into the rust color and then I sprayed a flat black wash over that and it turned out pretty good. They are the best looking rusted pipes that I've done so far. The mufflers were painted with Testors Aluminum then dabbed on a little rust with a brush and then dull coated to look a little used. I had alot of fun building this car and I'm looking forward to doing more like this. I did a 49 Ford lie this and I have some pictures of how I did it in my photobucket account if you would like to see how this is done. Try this link http://s38.photobucket.com/albums/e107/59ChevyImpala/49%20Ford%203/ This should work. Thanks agian for the kind comments. Dan

Billy, this looks fantastic to me. I really like the color. Good looking white and the decals look good as well. Keep up the good work. Looking forward to seeing more. Dan -

WOW, thanks alot guys for the kind comments. I have become atticted to building this way. I don't know why, but I like it. I'm sure there will be more builds this way. Brian, I'm Hangin in there. I haven't worked since January last year. Other than that I'm fine. How are you doin? I haven't posted much lately cause I've been buildin and thinkin of what to do next (as far as a job goes). Buildin helps keep me sane I guess. I am keeping up good spirits all through this time. Dan

I think the heater was standard. If not, it sure shoulda been. Especially in the North. Dan

Thanks Rick. I had alot of fun building this car. Everything fit together great. Dan

Bill, this is just awesome. I relly like what you did with this kit. They were bad from the start as far as the trunk goes. Oh, how I remember it all. One note though: I think you forgot the heater in the engine compartment on the right fender. Can't wait to see what you do with the Olds. Keep up the great work. Dan

Well, I don't have any pics of the building process but I do have some of the finished car and here they are. Hope you enjoy. Here is the underneath. The left side. The black part of the rear fender is black BMF glued in place and made to look like it's being worked on. The right side. You can see the screwdriver sticking out of the trunk (this is how you open the trunk) Here is the engine compartment. You can also see a box of donuts on the front seat, tissue box and sun glasses on the dash. I have more pics in my photobucket if you would like to see them, and thanks fer lookin. Dan

Now that's somethin new. I just might give that a try on the next one that I do. Thanks Zack Dan

I used Testors flat white under this Datsun. The pearl is a powder mixed in clear and sprayed with Future over that. Dan
-
You have to wait for the decals to dry before you spray anything over them. But what I would use is Future floor polish instead of clear. Future is an Acrylic and won't hurt the decals, but you still have to wait for the decals to dry before applying the Future. Dan

I've also had some sucess using Testors liquid glue by soaking the glue joint with the liquid glue over and over and then prying the part apart. I did this on the 63 Impala that I restored. Nothing else worked on getting the glue to break loose. Again you have to be very careful cause the liquid glue can melt the parts you're trying to get apart. Dan

I like the 40 your building. Looks really great. Note on Thunder Road: Mitchum's 50 had three carbs on the engine and the one in Garlit's musium has only one. Not sure this one is from the movie. Maybe one that looks similar. Dan

Thanks Donn, I'll give that a try. Dan

Thanks Donn, the only problem is, I already painted them the Aluminum and they are installed on the car. Will this still work if I brush over what I've already done? Dan P.S. I still like your 57 that I saw at our convention last year. The Blue one. I really enjoyed our little talk we had there also. Take care.

I need some help on making a couple of mufflers look old but not falling apart. I rusted the chassis on the 57 150 and rusted the exhausts and need to make the mufflers look old. I have no clue on how to do this. The mufflers are painted with Testors Aluminum. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. Dan

Well, after a few days of walking thru the wilderness I've finally come across your hideout Wheelman (Mike). It was really hard getting here, but I made it. I had to dodge and hide from all the zombies and cut throats along the way. I also brought along some weapons that I think you can use. How about a 105 Howitzer, 50 caliber machine gun and the ammo to go along with them? I might have a few more weapons hidden away some where. I'll keep lookin and hopefully no one has found them yet. Dr Peeko AKA Dan P.S. I have a milatary radio that I think you can use also.

Well, I got the trim removed from between the spears on this kit and I will be going on to the next part of converting it to the 210. No pics yet, but I will post one of how it looks as soon as I can. Dan

Doug, I've used Tamiyas smoke for some pretty good results. It's a transparent black and looks like leaky trans and engine stuff. Here are a some of pics of what I'm talking about. Hope these help ya. -
I'll be there Ron. See ya there. I had fun at the last meeting and I'm looking forward to the rest of the year. Dan
