  1. How bout some of the other trucks from Flatbed Annie and Sweetie pie like the long wheelbase coe Freightliner? Also the Western Star from Steel Cowboy.
  2. Imatruker is correct the smaller Maxforce was a joint venture between Navistar and MAN an Austrian truck builder. The rights to the Cat c15 were part of deal between Cat and Navistar involving the new Cat vocational trucks. Any way thanks Dave looking good.
  3. Mister Modeler is right all red exept 903 Cummins (black). Freind of mine got a new 79 transtar 2 with a 3406 Cat it was red. I've seen mid 80s 9670s with red and tan Cummins so must have been in that time. And yes Max Force engines are dark blue with black and silver components.
  4. Great memories. I think someday Tim's name will be part of that list.
  5. I built many and yes they were very good for the scale and the fact they come out in the early 70s. I still consider them good kits and they build up nicely.
  6. Nice build. If they bring it back I hope they retool and put it on a WS frame instead of a Freightliner frame. Either way nice clean build.
  7. In some respects 40 year old cars are superior to new ones. In reality the AMT kit is more accurate than Italeri's. At the time AMT's kit came out it was state of the art, more so than Italeri's. Like Tim said two different eras and two different models of WS . But we are way off topic here. Perhaps a thread discussing kit brands makes more sense. Who makes the best kit is subjective and there is never gonna be agreement on one brand. Still an interesting discussion.
  8. I wouldn't say Italeri kits are superior just different. Remember the AMT kit is nearly 40 years old .
  9. Actually there was a truck briefly in part 3. A black Pete 359 with silver and red stripes. And yes Snowman was shown driving it. It was certainly a movie only a mother could love.
  10. Part 3 was a poor movie but it did have a few moments. I probably have a fondness for it only because I lived in Marion county Florida at the time where a lot of the film was made due to the fact Burt Reynolds had his thourobred horse farm there. Anyway that Pete would be a good project.
  11. Actually the 1/32 kit was originally put out by Monogram in the early 80s and only issued once. Either way the old AMT kit will be very welcome I can think of a dozen projects off the top of my head.
  12. The Road Boss kit actually has the ntc 350 small cam Cummins and Spicer sst 16 also known as the 4x4 airshift. It is a 73 or 74 vintage.
  13. Actually the dd 12v71 would fit fine. Everybody seems to be under the misconception the 12v71 is a huge engine when in reality it's no longer than the ntc 350 Cummins the Western Star kit came with and the same width and heigth as the 8v71. Also 8v71s did do heavy work I've seen many pulling 11 axle Michigan road trains in the 60s and early 70s they just used gearing to do it. Either way great project keep on posting. PS just for the record the 12v71 was only 852 cubic inches.
  14. Actually it's not a Briga deer either it's a mh 9500
  15. European trucks are certainly highly engineered.
  16. Maybe their testing the latest Maxforce engine for their partner Navistar ha ha .
  17. I seem to remember MAN bringing some trucks to Canada years ago for evaluation. Who knows on this deal, Scania tried selling here with no success. Volvo also tried with no success till they bought White. Very interesting !
  18. The model of the smokey and the bandit trailer produced by Ertl is from smokey and the bandit part 2. If that's the trailer you have then you would need a AMT GMC general kit with a scratch built sleeper and a turbo for the kits detroit 8v92 engine. The trailer kit is actually incorrect for the real trailer but nothing in model form is very close. In this case though the truck would be much easier to build.
  19. Jim is right the movie truck(s) had the KW splendor interior which is what the AMT w900 has. Also the wheels from the AMT kit are the ones you need.
  20. The amt w900 is probably the best place to start unfortunatly it's been out of production for some time. Even so they are out there on ebay etc. albeit not cheap. Revell of germanys w900 could be modified by shortening the hood and making the bunk a single bunk even so it's a few years newer than the movie truck as would be the Revell(monogram) snap tite w 900. Engine wise none are right as the movie truck(s) were supposed to have the Cat 1693 wich would have to be scratch built. The movie truck(s) also have the KW torsion bar rear suspension available from P & P resins. If you find an old enough AMT w900 it would have that suspension but that's very unlikely.
