  1. My favorite resource is http://paintref.com/paintref/index.shtml . It will show you the paint chips and interior color choices for the year and make of most any car, especially if it is American and '50s or newer. When you find your color, click the link beside the color in the right-hand side menu and you can find the manufacturer's paint code along with the Ditzler and sometimes DuPont and Martin-Senour codes. Find your interior choices from among the sheets of chips. The interiors don't have a chip but they are listed by make and tell which should be semi-gloss, gloss or matte. After you choose your color, google it and you can see what your choice looks like on a real car. Hope this helps!
  2. In the Shop Talk section Francis Pivar of New Kensington, PA writes: "Farewell, Modelhaus I think it was a slap in the face to the modeling community when Don and Carol Holthaus walked away from their Modelhaus enterprise, leaving us stranded. Didn't they realize how important their services were to the hobby and all those who supported them over the years? I don't put them down for their wish to retire, but for them to fail to even offer to put the business up for sale is inconscionable. I hate to think of what has happened to all of those irreplaceable molds and masters. Every time I read an article in Scale Auto that mentions a modeler using Modelhaus resin parts or a Modelhaus resin body I do a slow burn!"
  3. Casey, what kit is this? I can tell it's a 4-door but not the make or year. Can you provide a link if this is an auction that has not expired? Thanks
  4. Yes, I was somewhat offended(and I'm not easily offended) by the wording of the modeler's frustration with Modelhaus' decision to retire in the other model car mag. Everyone has the right to quit or retire at any time. Businesses close all the time(re: Revell USA). Some reorganize or are bought but some, especially small businesses are gone forever. Being here for several years, buying from Modelhaus and knowing the backstory of how the business was to continue and the tragedy that changed that plan, I was aware of what happened. I can't believe for one minute that the editors at SA didn't know and then allowed this to be published without any rebuttal. My subscription was due to be renewed but their handling of this one reader's opinion has caused me to not renew. Just my 2 cents.
  5. That should work. I thought there might not be enough space to get a socket in far enough from the top. That is why I went with a stovebolt so I could use a screwdriver from the top. Try it. You'll be out about a dollar if it doesn't work. I had the stuff in the junk jar to use what I did.
  6. I'm with Tom and Steve. I just can't sit and do a decent job.
  7. I drilled mine out enough to fit a stovebolt and a locknut. It won't come apart and it will still turn.
  8. Good call Mike. These are close enough for me. Thank you! https://scenesunltd.com/products/wagon-wheels-6-lug-s31
  9. Yep, those won't work with no lug nuts. I didn't even notice that. The kit is the 1/24 scale AMT 1980 Ramcharger kit Casey. I hope you might have some suggestions.
  10. You might want to check out Fireball Modelworks. He has a lot of wheels and tires and is reliable. I didn't find what I was looking for.
  11. Thanks, J.C. I'll look around some more to see if I can find something a little cheaper than the Ford.
  12. Great looking model, Scott. I think I found them. I was looking on the bay and ran across a set in parts. They are off of the AMT '78 Firestone Ford 4x4. https://www.hobbylinc.com/amt-78-ford-pickup-1-25-plastic-model-truck-kit-858 It's not heresy to put Ford rims on a Dodge is it? lol
  13. Yep, that's what the kit wheels look like. Thanks, Tom.
  14. Tom, great job of detailing on the chasis. The rims in the kit are different from the white ones in the bottom pic, correct?
  15. After checking for the Fire Fighter truck, the cheapest kit I could find was $125 which is out of the budget and I couldn't locate a fleetside bed reasonably priced. So I am going to go in a different direction. I'm going to make a Ramcharger Power Wagon instead. I found some pics of a '79. I'm not crazy about the rims on this or in the Ramcharger kit that I can see. Where can I find a set of wheels and tires like these in the bottom picture? Thanks for any help with this!
  16. This is my strategy. I decide what I'm willing to pay and wait until about 10 seconds to go make my move. I win way more than I lose. I learned a long time ago if I bid early in an auction, I very rarely win it.
  17. I would build any of the OPs and include this one as well.
  18. There is a die-cast model of the 1957. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Eastwood-Automobilia-1-25th-scale-1957-Dodge-D100-Sweptside-pickup-limited/173578614999?hash=item286a1778d7:g:umoAAOSwgd1beaZ3
  19. Of all the ones here, this one I might try to build one day. My wife says she would drive it. She really liked it. I do too.
  20. You didn't offend me. I am enjoying the thread because I've never really thought about looking up mashups like these. It opens up the imagination which is never a bad thing(my wife says i ain't right anyway), even if I wouldn't even consider trying to replicate. If some are offended, so be it.
  21. This one reminds me of that old Johnny Cash song where he took one piece out of the factory at a time.
  22. I like all of them too. Now, what make are #s 1, 5 & 6? I'm not familiar with these. My fav would be the blue-green Studebaker.
