  1. A similar circumstance of a Jaguar slowing on the track and cutting in front of a hobby racer in an Austin-Healy causing the Healey to swerve in front of a Mercedes 300 SLS was what ending up killing the Mercedes driver and 85 spectators at the 1955 LeMans 24hours, June 11, 1955. Both this Jag and Merc were rare historic cars and as far as the F1 driver in the Mercedes, never heard of him.
  2. I got a Modelhaus 69 Charger hood today at the swap meet. The difference between the original MPC Charger and the later MPC Charger is the newer versions have some tabs with holes in them in the corner of the hood opening on the body. The new hood has 2 pegs to fit in those holes. The Modelhaus hood is like the old MPC and has 2 hinge like appendages. You can either remove the tabs on the body or the hinge pieces on the old style hood. The hood fits the body perfectly other than the mounting arrangement, which is an easy fix. I recall the OP wanting a hood with understructure, I think the only way to replicate that is with a thin piece of sheet plastic with various holes cut in to it and glued to the bottom of the hood.
  3. Modelhaus lists a 69 Charger hood. I ordered one today so won't have it for some time. I am hoping it is the correct hood for a standard 69 Charger and not the one for the Daytona which is different. I have an old MPC Charger 500 body without a hood, so keeping my fingers crossed.
  4. Hmmm, looks like someone added some horsepower or the perception of horsepower to a really ugly 4 door sedan and they are hoping someone will pay some outrageous price to be seen in one. Fail.
  5. First let me say that I love every HRM product I have ever gotten and I wish HRM continued success. Now, consider that there are some resellers that advertise the product and do not have it on hand, which creates a problem. It could also be that some of the resellers add to the problem by taking the money from the customer and then hesitating to order from HRM for whatever reason, poor cash flow, crappy business management, whatever. That can greatly add to a delay in receiving desired items. It also could be that some retailers have a habit of ordering things and being slow to pay for them, thus ending up as a low priority when a follow up order is placed. In other words, the retailer is less favored and a lower priority to a supplier. Pure speculation on my part but it makes some sense. As far as HRM goes, I know who I order from and who I will NOT order from. I have learned the hard way who will get me the goods the quickest and it never was any fault of HRM.
  6. I had several good transactions with Strada but the last items that I ordered, some machined aluminum parts and some photoetch parts have never arrived, no correspondence and not much hope of ever receiving my items. Probably close to $80 worth. It is going on 2 years since ordering the parts, unacceptable. I will not be ordering again from Strada.
  7. I looked at a few Ross Gibson engines and to me the effort required to make them "right" is beyond what I am willing to do at that price. I think that the Historic Racing Miniatures parts and kits are without equal. It is obvious that Harold is a master at the craft! Very reasonable as well. A little hard to get though. Worth the wait for perfection!
  8. Those are very nice kits. They are models of the newer version of the Ford GT and not the old 1960's version race car. The model is a Ford GT that was raced with limited success in 2010 I believe.
  9. In 1958 Ford used the FE block engines, 332 and 352 for the V8 option. I don't think the 312 was available anymore. So, a nice 58 Ford kit with a nicely done FE, like the AMT 60 Starliner has, would be great.
  10. Isn't the car marketed as the Scion FRS here in the USA, the same car as the 2 above?
  11. Click and Clack, Tappet brothers have always been one of the best things to listen to on the radio. RIP Tom, you'll be remembered. I hope NPR keeps playing Car Talk for decades!
  12. Thanks guys. Both sources are out of stock
  13. The kits and parts from LeMans Miniatures are all first rate. Very well done, I've been very impressed with my GT40 tires/wheels and I have a complete kit, full detail of the 69 LeMans Ford Gt40.
  14. Anyone know of a source for a sleeper cab conversion for the Ford C-600 kit?? I know there have been some but not sure on availability or of a current source. TIA.
  15. The 69 tires are wider and Firestones. If I remember correctly, the 68 car ran Goodyears. I have both sets from LMM and they are super nice! Well worth the $ to me.
  16. They really have a long way to go to make an electric car truly practical, despite any hype or wishful thinking. The battery costs are very high, batteries are inherently dangerous and the vehicles are pretty limited in their functionality. That is today they are small sedans/coupes with enough range to commute around the city, to work, for shopping and such. They are not very practical for a road trip and it doesn't matter how many charging stations they erect. I drive across the US a few times per year at about 1000 miles per day. I normally stop three times for gasoline per 1000 miles. It takes me less than 10 minutes to fuel up and do whatever pit stopping I need per filling. How long does it take to charge up an electric car? If it's over 30 minutes, it is impractical. I drive a Jeep Wrangler 4-door. I buy a SUV because I occasionally have to haul something, I travel and I go to the hills as often as I can. I drive on snow, dirt, mud and sand as well as pavement and gravel roads. What electric vehicle can I get that will do what my Jeep does? In a way I know that a Jeep is part of a problem and not part of a solution when it comes to efficiency of resources however, what I use a vehicle for cannot be duplicated with an electric or a hybrid, at the present time. If all you do is run around a town or city then maybe an electric car will work for you but where does the electricity come from? Some form of generation is required to produce the energy, burning coal, diesel, gasoline are some of the ways the electricity is generated. Wind power, solar power and nuclear power are generating a very small percentage of electricity we use. Some areas have hydo plants but they are limited. So the majority of electricity is made using fossil fuels. Where is the benefit in an electric car? It certainly makes money for the makers but is it a cost effective means of transportation in the total cost of ownership to the consumer? Not now and probably not any time in the near future.
  17. Just build a General Lee model and post it here. You'll find out how the criticism game is played.
  18. I always loved the Kookie car, to me it was the perfect street rod and had a unique look. I would jump all over a model of the car today. The car was built and owned by Norm Grabowski, an actor that had parts in movies and TV shows. Very likable guy. The Kookie car was "the ginchiest"! As for the Cheetah, although a cool little car, it was a total failure at it's intended purpose as a road race car. If someone wants one there are resin alternatives available. I'd much rather see a kit of the Chaparral 2D or 2E again and a kit of the Cobra Daytona Coupe. They were both very successful cars and the couple of kits available were not that good, the Gunze-Sangyo Daytona Coupe was curbside and difficult to build. Mine came with broken white metal rear suspension parts, from the factory. The Chaparral kit was an IMC that was decent but fiddly and it was the winged 2E. The real car used on Starsky and Hutch was a 6-cylinder car, the 1:1 street car was not very popular back in the day. There are resin bodies to build this car, I think they are still available. What irks me is some of the kits that we have had produced. The Munstermobile, the Monkeemobile and many others. That tooling money could have been better spent on some of the other cool subjects that have never been close to kitted.
  19. Ray, I have to say that as dark as it seemed in the swap meet area, it would have been hard to see a Cobra hat, unless it was fluorescent orange. It took my old eyes a long time to adjust and even then I had to look hard to see things. I came up empty handed, unusual for me, I normally come home with something even if I give it away later. Today, nothing! Russ, you're 100% correct about the new LHS. I had some hope for the place after some hype but to me it was a bust. The only thing I really was looking for was Alclad paints, I need a few colors to add to my stash and they had no Alclad and a bunch of empty paint racks in general. I see a lot of red ink in their future. Hope they make it but it seems it will take a miracle.
  20. The swap meet was great, lots of bargains and lots of people. Good to see some of my friends there and say hello. Unfortunately, I did not find a single thing I was looking for, not even a P-47 razorback that I wanted to build. Not normally an airplane builder. There was a lot of car and military kits and items, just nothing jumped at me. We then went to a new LHS that is close by and it was generally very disappointing. Huge facility with an indoor, electric cart track and a small corner of modeling/hobby items. No one was on the track, no one shopping in the hobby area and a lot of overhead seen everywhere you looked. Not a healthy business model. I'll be surprised to see if they make the year. Great concept, just no customers! I did find a couple of spray cans of Tamiya that I was looking for, so at least they made one small sale!
  21. I plan on being there, broke but hoping to find a bargain or two! See you there Dan
  22. Any kit from Historic Racing Miniatures is worth a look. No one makes a better resin product. If I had even the slightest Porsche blood in me, I'd be all over the 914/6 from HRM. Looks super cool!
  23. Dan, sounds like a great project, One thing before anyone glues that together, that manifold/carb setup is part of a Ford 427 FE engine. The Daytona Coupe was never run with a big block. It only ran with a 289 with 4 Weber downdrafts. I don't know if Bob was planning on cramming a 427 in that or not but that manifold is not for a Daytona Coupe engine.
  24. I like the looks of the Hudson Hollywood from Motor City Resins. I like everything I have gotten from Motor City. For some reason I cannot post links or pics or paste anything. Motor City Resin is listed in the Aftermarket Directory in the Car Resin and Aftemarket section of this forum.
  25. The thru the inner fender style of wedge headers from the old JoHan kit are reproduced by MCW,, Model Car World, maker of resin kits, parts and OEM paint colors. A direct copy of the old JoHan headers.
