  1. I would shave them myself and then Alclad them. I have found the key to success with chrome Alclad is to spray very fine, light coats over gloss black. I have no regrets not having things plated.
  2. I can only find the 300 with a 413 and 2-4 bbls on an inline manifold for 1962.

  4. That looks to be the color. I can get Scalefinishes paints and I think he does Nassau Blue too. In fact I have a bottle of Viking Blue on order for a first year Daytona Coupe build. Thanks guys
  5. Nice work on the GS. I am following this one as I am getting ready to start work again on the GS I started when the kit first came out, so far all I've done is fill the frame slots and bought the HRM parts and VRM decals. Something sort of forgotten in history, the 63 stock split windows did have a visibility problem to the point that if you had a 63 you could take it to the dealer and for free they'd convert it to the 64 configuration. Which is why there are so few 63 split windows around today. Many people felt it was like a free upgrade to a 64 and took advantage of the Chevrolet offer. Myself, I always preferred the split window and it is the only 'vette I ever really liked, besides the GS racing cars. It is worth a look if you can find the old races on You Tube, seeing the GS in action was interesting and the period was the best there has ever been, to me at least.
  6. Thanks David for the answer. As far as I can tell the correct color for the car, as raced was Nassau Blue Metallic. There are so many replicas out there it was impossible to find a pic of the real car. I had to find my book about the GS racing days to get a definitive answer.
  7. Getting motivated to work on my Accurate Miniatures Corvette GS. I am using the great VRM decals to model the 00 car. What would be the best color for the car? Never been familiar with the Corvette colors. The 1:1 looks close to Ford Guardsman Blue but darker/deeper. Anyone know what color I need? The decal directions say Mecum Blue, whatever that it
  8. Just what I needed, Moe kits
  9. The 715 was used on the NASCAR engines in 65 through around 1970, except for a few 69-70 cars used the 1050 Dominator. 426 Hemi's used the 715 type on the bathtub or regular single 4-bbl manifolds.
  10. Thanks for the input guys all good but not the one carb Ii am looking for. AFX has a good idea but since I build very little in the way of sports cars and seldom use 1/24 scale, a bunch of extra Cobra kits would not be useful to me, I have a couple on the shelf. The carb I am looking for came in the Cobra SC kit with a single 4-bbl setup. The street Cobra kit came with the 2x4 setup with the shorter carbs. Here is a pic of a genuine Holley Cobra carb (the guy wants over $1000 for it BTW). It is a Holley 715 cfm, no longer made in 1:1, different bowl style than the later 750-850 types. Actually the first generation of center pivot floats, the 715 was made for racing so the bowls would always fill properly under g-loads.
  11. Anyone know of a resin cast copy of the carburetor that came in the Revell 427 Cobra kit? It is a Holley, single 4-bbl with a fuel block on each float bowl and a line between the two bowls. It is not a dominator or center pivot float double pumper, not sure of the size or model. Commonly run on 426 Hemi for NASCAR engines and single 4--bbl 427 Fords. Any help would be appreciated.
  12. I'm jealous! That is going to be one fine Daytona. Love how it's going.
  13. I got my Missing Link 71 Cyclone in the mail the other day, hat's off to Kevin! Beautiful kit, all the parts and body are as nice as any work I have ever seen. Now, if someone would pick me out a color I can live with for it...so many choices!
  14. I actually soaked a resin body and parts in Wesley's Blech-Wite and it softened the bumpers to a rubbery state. I had soaked the items for 24 hours, per many folks recommendations. The 2 bumpers were rubbery when I painted them gloss black and then chrome Alclad, they were rubbery when I glued them on the finished model and that was weeks after the soaking. So, now I just wash resin parts in dish soap and warm water and scrub with an old toothbrush.
  15. The odd thing to me is that the 426 DOHC engine in the SuperBee looks more accurate than any Ford 427 SOHC engine I have seen kitted, even though the Ford SOHC was actually run in lots of drag cars and even top fuelers.
  16. Definitely came in the 79 SuperBee Pro Street kit. Not sure if it also came in the stock SuperBee kit.
  17. Nice one! My ML kit is in the mail so I should be getting going on my own here soon. Not sure what color I want though. Your Cyclone looks really good. I especially like the Magnum 500 wheels with the black outs, nicely done.
  18. The Daytona is really coming along nicely. I like your bathtub intake, don't forget the bolt heads around the top. The top had to be removed to bolt the manifold to the heads, which is why the bolts around the perimeter. Overall, I am very impressed with the build/techniques.
  19. I put my order in today for a pair of these, not sure what to make out of them but I wanted the engine/headers/chassis. More nice work by Moebius.
  20. The MPC Cyclone NASCAR kit has a really plain chassis with almost no detail and what detail there is doesn't look right. The ride height is too high in the NASCAR kit, even for the street car, which is why I used a Polar Lights Torino chassis on my NASCAR Cyclone. I have a Revell 70 Torino kit and plan to use it for the stock Cyclone. I am sure that whatever work is involved is worth it. The engine is very well done as well as the overall chassis parts, I'll see how it goes. No way I would use the MPC NASCAR chassis. Some other options would be the 66 Fairlane but the engine would be wrong.
  21. I have that 71 Cyclone on order, looking forward to making a rare muscle car. I noticed that the Model King racing Cyclone kit was issued a few years ago, it came with 2 full sheets of decals to give the builder a selection of options. One of the sheets has the factory stock Cyclone Spoiler striping and logos for both the 70 and the 71 Cyclones. They are black, both years. Saves some time for me! I have looked at the 71 Mercury paint chips and have not decided on a color yet. Some of the Cyclones were a pretty loud color, not sure which way I will go with mine. Probably not the toxic green or competition orange, I may consider plain white. Having black stripes and logos limits me a little on the color. Considering the competition blue also. We shall see...
  22. I have had the pleasure of seeing Raoul's Grand Prix in person both as a wip and a finished model. Really outstanding build. The paint is perfect and the overall attention to detail make it a really fine standout!
  23. I have one of the ancient Performance Detail Products photo etch sets for the 63 Galaxie. Comes with scripts, emblems and a grille. Very nice if you can find one.
  24. 68 Mercury Cyclone, Dan Gurney and Cale Yarbrough editions as an option. 57 Ford Ranchero 58 Ford Custom 300 2-door sedan 48-50 Packard, fastback coupe and convertible 73 Mercury Montego GT
  25. Oh yeah! Thanks for reminding us about Keith's Cyclone decals! I have got to build one of these street Cyclones soon I made a race version of Benny Parsons' Merc a few months ago using a reissue MPC race kit and a Polar Lights Talladega chassis.
