  1. Virgil, those latest photos you posted are excellent. The way you set the camera angle, the way the diorama blends seamlessly with the "real" background... those photos could pass as "real."
  2. Well, depending on the situation, that can actually be a good thing...
  3. I don't think you want to be schooling Christian on correct German pronunciation. Just sayin'...
  4. And my all-time favorite forum faux pas... people who don't know the difference between the words "lose" and "loose." You can lose your keys... and your pants can be too loose... but you can't loose your keys and your pants can't be too lose... And don't even get me started on people who don't know the difference between there, they're and their, or you're and your....
  5. Yeah, but English is really quirky, and just about every "rule" has exceptions. Example: how can you possibly explain why the words in these pairs are pronounced differently? foot, boot good, food weight, height grieve, sieve English makes no sense.
  6. The name "Willy" has nothing to do with it. The cars don't belong to some guy named Willy. The company and the cars are named after the company founder, John Willys: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Willys
  7. Why in the world would you put an "R" in Buick?
  8. I love watching a classic come together!
  9. OK... there's no model car in this photo, but this photo is one of the rare ones where there is absolutely nothing that gives it away as a model. Everything is perfect. Obviously Chuck has a keen eye for detail... look at the realistic grass clumps, perfectly in scale... the detail of how the poured concrete stoop looks along the edges, perfectly recreating how the concrete would have been poured into a wooden form... the rust on the gas pump, the way the bottoms of the garage doors are rotting away, the perfectly in-scale peeling paint on the building. This is a case where no detail was overlooked, no matter how small. And that's why this can easily pass for "real"... because no detail has been overlooked and everything, every last detail, is in scale.
  10. And to get nitpicky, it's to-yo-ta (the correct Japanese pronunciation)... which we have "Yankified" into TOY-yoda.
  11. "Willis" (as in Bruce Willis) is (and always has been) the correct pronunciation. There are a lot of regional mispronunciations in the US... "Willies," "mater," "asterick," "nucular," etc.
  12. And it's Bay-Em-Vay... not Bee-Em-Double You...
  13. Fairly close vote. Final vote 29 REAL, 36 MODEL. And you got it... it's a model! 1/5 scale 1928 Mercedes SSK, completely scratchbuilt of metal, brass, etc. the "Wingrove way" (but not by Wingrove).
  14. What? You didn't like the scrapple model I posted?
  15. Hey, who do you think you are, trying to suggest a logical solution that actually makes sense?
  16. Some of those cars make donks look downright tasteful...
  17. I think there were 8 Hemi cuda convertibles made. So that would explain the high price.
  18. And it's "OW-dee," not "Aw-dee."
  19. If it's a fair return of value for the investment, it can't be over-priced. If it was over-priced the return of value for the investment couldn't possibly be fair.
  20. Interesting how the car has completely rusted away but some of the interior upholstery has miraculously stood the test of time!
  21. When I was a little kid I used to build a lot of models that way... no paint at all. But that's because after my friends and I built them, we crashed them and set them on fire, so no need to bother with painting! But as an adult, I don't see the point.
  22. Any time the host club allows its own members to enter the contest, the idea of "favoritism" can't be avoided. It makes no difference how "honest" the judges are... it just plain looks bad when club members are competing in their own sponsored contest. And let's be honest... how many people can actually be "fair and balanced" in their judging when they know some of their good friends are competing in the contest? Better to not even have the appearance of possible favoritism.
  23. ok, guys. I don't see anything to be added here that hasn't already been said. What have we learned here? Some people like a separate truck section. Some people don't like a separate truck section. And I'm supposed to get these two groups to agree on where to post trucks? Sorry, this is a pointless argument. We have a separate section for trucks, and that's where they go. If anyone insists on posting their trucks in the cars section, I'll move the topic. If anyone "doesn't understand" why trucks should go in the trucks section, sorry, but I can't explain it any clearer than I already have. And if anyone thinks the trucks section is a "ghetto," well... that's your opinion. Nothing I can (or should) do to change that.
