  1. Thanks, Ken! Yes, it's absolutely true... the people who contribute material either to SA or MCM (or both) are the people who are doing their best to keep this hobby alive, thriving, and interesting. Obviously we couldn't do it without them. So I'm right behind Ken as far as giving a big "thank you" to the people who keep us supplied with content.
  2. Nope, smooth as a baby's behind. They must have removed those posts somewhere along the way.
  3. There is a maximum size allowed. I think it's 150x150 pixels.
  4. Yes, we want article submissions! That's why I posted that topic! As cliché as it sounds, the truth is that MCM is the "people's magazine!" We love to run features that are written by YOU, the readers! MCM is about us! Sure, we feature articles by pros, but we also feature articles from "regular people." Look back over the past year or two of MCM... you'll find feature articles from many of the members right here on the forum. If any of you ever want to do a feature, just PM me! I'm always looking for more content...
  5. Ok, I should have been more accurate. I don't ever look at SA anymore. I guess I was wrong; I didn't realize that they ran diorama how-tos. But my point is still valid: MCM features a wide range of models and modeling subjects, generally a wider variety than what SA typically runs. And that, IMO, is the main difference between the two magazines: SA is much more tightly focused on cars only, while MCM features a wider range of subject matter along with cars. Neither approach is necessarily "right" or "wrong," one way isn't "better" or "worse" than the other, they're just different.
  6. Probably not...
  7. I can't comment on SA, as I never look at it, but content exceedingly thin in MCM? Seriously??? The publication schedule may be inconsistent, but if there's one thing we do consistently, it's offering a wide variety of content... subjects that you will never see in the other magazine.
  8. I can't explain that one...
  9. Because the iguana was out sick that day.
  10. The Rommel's Rod kit might be the place to start if you want to scratchbuild one. And BTW... it's General Burkhalter...
  11. Remember, though... getting a magazine on the rack at the local Barnes and Noble is up to the publisher. Gregg alone can't make that happen, GBP has to want to make that happen, and for reasons unknown to me, they haven't done that.
  12. I agree 100% with all of you who are tired of the magazine always being late. You have a completely legitimate complaint... but the fact is that I can't do anything about it. On that issue the ball is in Gregg's court... and I won't speak for him, or make excuses or try to give "reasons" why the magazine is always late. Whether or not Gregg wants to address that issue with you guys is up to him. Ultimately it's his magazine to do with as he pleases, and it's your choice as to whether or not to buy the product.
  13. The other magazine is what it is, and MCM is what it is. Two very different philosophies. So I guess we're lucky to have the choice of which we prefer. Some prefer the editorial style of SA, some prefer MCM. Choice is good!
  14. As long as everyone keeps their cool, there's no reason to close this thread down. Giving our opinions, going back and forth on a topic... that's what a forum is supposed to be! I think one of the things that makes this forum "user friendly" is the fact that we actually allow debate and discussion here... even if it's not always complimentary to us. Everyone's opinion is valid (even when they are hopelessly wrong, like a certain member whose name I won't mention but whose initials are Mark Moore! :) )
  15. To your first point: It was never claimed that the model was a 100% correct-to-the-last-detail replica, and no "misleading information" was given. In fact, to quote from the article itself: "Keeping with the unique theme of the build, I added the rally rims from the Camaro kit"... there was no intent to give any misleading information. You are really picking on some very small nits with your commment. To your second point: Are you serious??? How many articles about jet-drive boats, old steam tractors, diorama building, old promos and vintage kits and their history, how box art is done, how to build a photo backdrop, etc. have appeared "over there" lately? These, and many more, have all appeared in MCM. I don't see how MCM doesn't offer content across all spectrums of the car modeling hobby. O for 2, Mark.
  16. Peter, you made some very good points. It is hard to come up with new content month after month, it is hard to have enough variation to please everyone (well, not literally everyone, that's impossible... but we try to have a wide variety of features), and it is hard to avoid the "same old" type of articles. And as far as this forum cutting into the magazine's sales, yeah, I'm sure it does to an extent. There are plenty of people who spend a lot of time here that have never bought a single copy of the magazine. "Why buy the cow when the milk is free?" comes to mind. The reason we have a free forum is that A: theoretically people will like it, the word will get out, and ultimately more people might buy the magazine... and B, because the other guys have one. And then there's the fact that Gregg is a nice guy and he simply wants you guys to have this free forum!
  17. Actually HL has the 40% off coupon every other week (at least around here).
  18. There's always next season! Never give up the dream!!!
  19. I guess if you're a Lions fan the bar is set pretty low...
  20. So they took out the engine and put the batteries there! Interesting. I've never seen that version before. Thanks, Mark. You answered my "kwestion!" I love this forum!
  21. You might as well get into it now. Once you get the hang of it, you'll never go back to silver paint or sharpies to represent chrome trim. There's NO paint available that looks like chrome (except maybe Alclad, which is expensive, and takes some skill to get it to work correctly). And even Alclad doesn't really look like chrome, but more like polished aluminum.
  22. When was this kit released in a motorized version? I've never heard of/seen that one...
  23. Welcome to the best online car model forum! (In my completely unbiased opinion)...
  24. That kit has been molded in many colors over the years, including red. The one I remember from my childhood was molded in gray, but I don't know if it was an original issue or an early reissue (I don't remember exactly how old I was when I built it, but it was probably somewhere in the 1968-72 range).
