  1. Maybe that because they know that all of us old fart modelers will buy 'em up like hotcakes... We grew up with all those '50's cars and we just LOVE 'EM...
  2. I'm not trying to be a smartalec here... The topic is 40 Ford Woody... I see a 40 Ford Sedan Delivery with interior wood panels... Is there going to be wood on the exterior of the body...???
  3. And how many shots of Jack Daniels or Jim Beam have YOU had......????
  4. Would Gregg or Harry really go THAT far just to reinforce a joke article in the magazine...???
  5. And of course, drink some JACK DANIELS while we're at it......
  6. Hi Travis. I also use Testors chrome silver paint to touch up those annoying spots. No matter how careful you are in cutting the chrome parts from the trees, there always seems to be just a little bit that you still have to either trim with an XActo blade or sand with a sanding stick or file. If you can keep those areas as small as possible, usually once you touch up the parts with the chrome silver paint, they're really not terribly noticeable. I usually touch up the parts with the paint and let the paint dry fully BEFORE I glue them in place. I wish the manufacturers could figure out how to put the attachment points to the sprue trees in areas that won't show on the finished product (although I realize the limitations involved in mold-making for the parts.) Some of the Japanese kit makers seem to have figured that out.
  7. Yes, New Years Eve will NOT be the same without him... It was so sad to see and hear him on the tube after he had his stroke. I thank God that my strokes were only mild, TIA's and that I was not more severely affected.
  8. Wow... I'm impressed... It seemed like such a "phony" article... And no... I don't think I will be buying any...
  9. I got the April issue today and must say that I enjoyed your April Fool's article on BUE MAGIC Paint Stripper. Only $22 per quart plus shipping... What a bargain...!!! And it took off EVERY SPECK of Tamiya Black paint... amazing stuff huh..?? I'm sure there are other April Fool's things in this issue, but this one is the only one that really jumped out at me. Thanks for the smile.
  10. Hey Doc... Rest assured that there will probably be plenty of us eating those cheeseburgers and fries on Friday night... We'll most likely be sucking down a few cold ones too. Hopefully though, all of us will wash our greasy hands before we start touching any models on Saturday... Sorry you can't make the trip... It sucks sometimes when life gets in the way doesn't it...???
  11. Let me start this by saying: "I'm just joking when I say this guys..." Just so no one takes it the wrong way, or starts a fight here...... But, aren't we ALL Master Modelers in OUR OWN minds... LOL.
  12. Welcome aboard John. There are lots of us "Round 2" modelers here. As you said, "My how things have changed"... Everything seems to have gotten a lot better in this great hobby.
  13. That looks pretty cool. Yeah, you DO need a wood board in the back of it...
  14. The picture is of the NNL EAST commemorative photo-etched license plate frames and license plates that are given to everyone when they come in to the NNL show. This year is the 26th year for the NNL EAST show.
  15. Try wetting the model thoroughly and then putting it in your freezer overnight. Then try to gently separate all the pieces. T water should freeze and help to make the parts separate easier.
  16. I will be there FOR SURE Dave... Will also be at the Cheeseburger In Paradise thing at the Ramada on Friday nite. I am so looking forward to this weekend... I know I'll be leaving with BAGS of goodies too... Hope to see a bunch of old friends there and to hopefully meet a bunch of new ones too. See you all on Friday night & Saturday...
  17. That is one SICK looking model... SICK in a good way... Almost looks too long, but then... nah, it's OK. I love the front end. Great job.
  18. I have to confess that, while I have lived in Cranberry Twp, PA for the past 5 years (about 25 or so miles north of Pittsburgh), I still have never tried a Primanti Bros. sandwich... There is a Primanti restaurant (a branch) less than 5 minutes from my home, and I have eaten the food there, but I just have not yet tried a Primanti sandwich... My wife and daughters have, and they seem to love them. I guess it's a New York thing (I'm originally from Long Island, NY) The thought of a pile of french fries ON a sandwich, along with a pile of coleslaw, just does NOT seem appealing to me. One day I'll give in and try one, but I'm thinking that I'll probably wind up taking the french fries OFF the sandwich. Primanti's DOES make prety good New York style pizza though...
  19. Replicas & Miniatures of MD also makes those Caddy air cleaners in resin... they're not chrome plated though.
  20. I would LOVE to see Galaxie come out with ANYTHING...... If it would be as great as their '46 - '48 Chevy's we'd ALL be in for a real treat. Does anyone know if Galaxie (Gary Schmidt) has any REAL plans to come out with anything new in the near future?? There were rumors years ago that they might come out with a '41 Chevy, but obviously that never happened.
  21. Back in the late 90's when I had my '59 Dodge, I put curb feelers on both sides of the front bumper, along with the Dummy Spots, Spinner hubcaps, Lake Pipes, etc... One day on the way to work I was driving across the Captree Bridge on Long Island and was following a very slow moving garbage truck. It was a 2 lane bridge and the truck was in the right lane but it was a narrow lane and the truck was kind of riding the dotted yellow line separating the 2 lanes. The bridge was about a half mile long, lined with concrete Jersey barriers on each side. I was tired of following this truck which was only moving at about 30 mph so I pulled into the left lane to pass the truck. My Dodge was 6 1/2 feet wide and as I said, the truck was kind of edging into the left lane. I gunned the pedal to pass the truck and as I passed it, I heard the curb feeler on the drivers side scraping the Jersey barrier... That was a very narrow lane....!!!!!!
  22. OK Christian... Now you've got me drooling for models of the Delahaye, the '57 Studebaker, the '53 Buick, the Fujimi Diner & Interior pieces......... Geeze.... Why do you do this to all of us...??? You've certainly got one hell of a good imagination and a great talent for putting together such good convincing artwork... Thanks for the good dreams...
  23. I've had my share of trophies over the past 20 years, and, I've been lucky enough to have had about a dozen of my models pictured in various model and 1:1 car magazines over that same time period. I've also been fortunate to have had a feature in a magazine over 12 years ago. (I'm NOT trying to brag here) I honestly feel that getting your model pictured in a magazine is way more gratifying than winning a trophy because your work is exposed to such a larger audience than at a show. Winning awards is cool and definitely fun, but getting a picture of your model published is way cooler.
  24. If you have the patience, and a good eye, you can use your razor saw to cut grooves into regular slicks to make your own cheater slicks. I've done it and they came out good, but it is a bit time consuming. Go for it.
  25. About 12 years ago, when I was still living on Long Island, NY, I photocopied and shrunk a vehicle inspection and registration stickers from one of our cars before putting them on the car. I colored them with HiLiter markers and cut them out and white glued them to the inside of windshield on a couple of models back then. I think I may still have a couple of the copies somewhere, but I haven't used them in a long time. They do add just another little detail to the model.
