  1. Any more progress on this? Its a really cool project.
  2. My wife and I went to the MCMA showdown in Dallas this past Saturday. It was a great show and many talented builders participated. I sold some of my stash and added a few more. One of my trucks was photographed and will possibly be in another mag. Enough talking here is what I got to take home.
  3. Thanks for all the kind words. I had a great time at the MCMA show this past Saturday and a photographer from another model mag took pictures of this truck. I hope it gets selected for the mag.
  4. Those are some great looking models. Could you please post some more eye candy for us?
  5. Finished this one just in time for the MCMA Showdown tomorrow. Built mostly stock, added wheels from 65 Chevy kit and installed plug wires. Finish is flat black and several coats of clear.
  6. It may be a scale issue. I think the plow is 1/24 and the tow truck is 1/25.
  7. Rustall weatering system is an easy way to start. Just practice with it until you get the concept down and when you get the basic concept of it you can start mixing your own paint combinations to get the effects you are after. Tamiya also makes a weathering kit that is easy to use and is one of the products I like to use. I research military model mags and blogs to learn tips and techniqes on how they weather their models. Dr.Cranky is one of the modelers on this site and he offers great tips on weathering at his youtube channel.
  8. I got a couple of cedar wood pieces from cigar boxes at a tobacco store. I plan on using them for paneling on a woody or planks for truck beds. Best part is they were free.
  9. That is cool. Great job. Yet another truck I will have to try to build.
  10. I once had a bunch of bookmarks that had a similar pattern and were made of cloth, but it has been a long time and they are probably gone by now. You could check out the clothing section at a second hand or Goodwill store and possibly get a shirt or something with a similar pattern for a few bucks. One shirt would cover seats for several kits.
  11. Thanks for all the great reviews. I cut up the kit bed and hacked some pieces off to give it a rotted look and laid down some plastic strips to simulate the floor rails. I used the grill off of the ford flip nose 53 because it didnt have the "Teeth" in it. I removed the crome in the purple pond and painted it white to begin the wearhering process. Most if not all of the early 50's Ford trucks had painted grill's and were later chromed by people wanting to fancy them up. I removed the headlights because they were terrible to begin with and wouldnt look right on this type of build.
  12. I cant seem to find a early 80's GMC 4x4, I think its a reissue of the Fall Guy truck, or a Cat bulldozer. I ve been looking for about two or three years. I have seen them on Ebay but I dont do the bay. Ive been to swap meets and have checked a few hobby shops that buy, sell and trade older kits with no luck. I know I will find them sooner or later, but I can use them as an excuse to keep going to all the swap meets.
  13. 1. Late model 4 door heavy duty truck 2. 81-87 GM longbed pickup 3. 04-08 Ram pickup
  14. Very cool. Im going to have to build something like it now. Thanks for posting.
  15. That is awesome! Lets see more of that Ford in the last pic too.
  16. Just finished my latest project. I combined four different kits for the build. I started with the frame and engine from an old MPC kit, the cab from a U.S.A. 1 monster truck and the bed from a snap fast kit. I scratch built a goose neck plate, rear bumper and tool box from sheet styrene. Wheels are from a Monogram F-350. Finish is Krylon Banner Red.
  17. Cool build. The early 90's Chevys from AMT are my favorite kits. I never pass them up when I see them.
  18. Looks great. I really like the undercarriage. Great job.
  19. Yes, WOW! I really need to work on my skills.
  20. I like it! I always liked "oddball" kits. I almost finished my copy of the SHO but something else got my attention. You did a great job.
  21. I used household rubbing alcohol after the paint dried and all the salt was washed away. The effect works best on flat acrylic paint.
  22. I built this Van early last year thinking I would enter it into Dr. Cranky's post apocalyptic themed build but never did. These types of vehicles are fun to build when you have a case of builders block. I started with an AMT A Team van. I used sheet styrene for armor plate and Evergreen strips for the bumpers. The finish is Tamiya acrilic air brushed over salt and a coat of rubbing alcohol from a spray bottle. The alcohol gives it a nice sun fade look. I used brass mesh for the windows.
  23. This was my first time adding plug wires to one of my models. I didnt think about the scale until It was sitting on the display table next to all the other builds. Thanks for the tip midnightprowler. That is what makes us better builders.
