Drooling over the new Mustang...
Evilbenny replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I still don't like it. It looks like a Japanese car to me. -
Cool ride. I had one just like it 14 years ago. Same year, wheels and color. I hope it serves her as well as mine served me. I should have kept it. I've had 3 Stangs in my life so far and my 94 was my favorite. Be sure and tell her she needs to keep it waxed. I don't know if it was the Texas sun or the color but the finish on mine faded quickly.

On May 31st I attended the Squadron Open House event held at the Squadron warehouse. I felt like a kid in a candy store. This is the second time I have attended this event and it is so much fun to see a warehouse full of model kits and accessories. They had a discount table with amazing deals on returned kits and other miscellaneous items and selected kits were marked down to great prices. I purchased one of the new Meng F-350 kits at (IMO) a good price. I have been patiently waiting for this kit ever since the announcement. When I got home I opened up the kit and was shocked at what I found. The cab was terribly warped beyond my ability to fix it. I was so frustrated at the realization that I would possibly have to contact Meng and go through the refund/replacement process. I contacted Squadron Monday morning the 2nd of June to inquire what their return/replacement policy was. The customer service representative was very polite and informed me that they would send me a replacement cab at no charge. I was shocked at this news because they are a store not the manufacturer. I received my replacement cab June 4, a lot quicker than I expected. I just wanted to share this information with you to let you know that Squadron earned my future business by going out of their way to serve me. Great customer service.

Great job on that grill. The grill in these kits/promo's are always a tough job for me to get right. Your color choice is great also. Looking real sharp. -

Great job on this one. Very realistic weathering. I feel like washing my hands from looking at the pictures. I will be following this one. -
Nice collection. Save some of those Chevy trucks for me. They are my absolute favorite kits.

I blame the manufacturer for my hording, I mean impulse purchases. If they would quit discontinuing kits I wouldn't have to buy them now for future use. I hate passing up a good deal because the kit is in current production thinking I will just get one later, only to discover the kit has just been discontinued and is no longer available unless you want to pay crazy prices for it from a collector. Now that I think about my post that is a great business strategy. Dang, I better go to the hobby shop now.

What are you planning to do as far as detailing the engine compartment? I have a few of these that I want to detail up but keep coming up blank with ideas. -

Good job Christopher. I needed a magic wand to get the gaps right on my kit. I finally gave up and donated it to the local land fill after a long argument I had with mine. Glad to see you stuck with it and completed this one. -
My First Build in Years (Weird Stuff Inside)
Evilbenny replied to Cobrawannabe's topic in WIP: Model Cars
That white Escort looks killer. I hope the one I'm working on turns out half as good as that. Show us what you have so far Cobrawannabe. We would love to see your progress. -
Thanks for all of the kind words. I had a blast building this car and all of your encouragement makes me want to build some more "Sleepers".

I took some of my collection to a local contest/swap meet this weekend to raise funds to purchase some of the new releases that I am anxiously awaiting to be released this year. After the show was over I quickly packed and left. I was unpacking what didn't sell today and noticed that one of my trucks was missing. I didn't make a pre-sale inventory like I did last year but, I did make note of every purchase that was made. I checked my notes twice and the price I had on the truck was not in my notes. I know theft happens everywhere but I was not expecting it to happen at a contest/swap meet. I would not be as upset if it were almost any other kit I brought but it was a sealed Model King F-250 re-issue. Those things are not cheap. I guess I shouldn't cry over spilled milk but I hope the person who stole it gets what's coming to them some time soon.

Picked up some goodies this weekend at the MCMA Showdown in Dallas. Great show this year and the contest models were out of this world.

Just completed this kit for a local contest. The 57 Ford was our chosen common kit this year and I wanted to build something different. The car is basically box stock but, I added the engine and trans from the Revell Saleen kit to give it a little spice. In reality this car would probably not handle very well since I did not update the brakes, suspension or steering, but this is just a kit and I had fun building it. I was really surprised when I won second place this weekend with it.

MPG estimates vs. reality
Evilbenny replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
04 Ram 1500 Regular cab 4x4 5.7 Hemi, 5spd auto. 10.5 mpg city. 11.5 hwy 60 or 75 mph. It doesnt get any better at the lower speed. I only drive about 25 - 30 miles a week. Still cheaper to drive than my mother in laws Prius. I have no car payment and no maintenance issues in the last 5 years. I thought about getting something more economical but a payment is more than I spend on gas.
