64 Ford Galaxy (new pics 10/30/13)
Modelbuilder Mark replied to Modelbuilder Mark's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Thanks Andy and Mike, I have some final assembly over the next couple nights, hope to have some more pics up tomorrow. I work late tonight, so I am not sure how much I will get done this evening. -

are you using white spirit for the washes with the oil paints? Or thinner specific to the paint brand? Looking great! -

What to do with old model boxes
Modelbuilder Mark replied to mnwildpunk's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
I will use some of my empty boxes to store spares bodies, chassis', etc in, but some I just fold up and save in case someone ones one same as I do instruction sheets. Some older ones I have even hung on the wall as decoration. -
64 Ford Galaxy (new pics 10/30/13)
Modelbuilder Mark replied to Modelbuilder Mark's topic in WIP: Model Cars
OK, I think I am in the backstretch on the Galaxy. I am not happy with the paint, after I polished it out, the clear coat has continued to shrink a bit. Despite the fact that I let the red cure for over a week, and I used a clear by the same company, it has spidered in a few places, so more polishing etc. Still, since this is primarily a shelf build for me, I do not think I will strip and redo the paint, too much work in it already at this point. I failed to dry fit the firewall, so I will be having to trim and adjust that. But overall, the look is coming along as I had hoped. I could not get the door handles and key hole foiled correctly, so I used liquid mask and shot the handles with Alclad, I think they turned out pretty decent. -
Dad's chopped 40 Ford (few new pics 12/01/13)
Modelbuilder Mark replied to Modelbuilder Mark's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Well, I have been working on this 40 Ford inspired by my father's real car he build when he was 17. I am now on the THIRD attempt to get a paint job that is not severely flawed. Here are some pictures of the rear suspension. I know that it is not perfect to replicate any specific suspension, but I had fun creating the affect. My father bought his car from a police auction, and it was a moonshiner's car, so the back seat had been removed for the tank. My father was required to remove the tank and deliver back to the police per auction requirement. My father did not put seats back in, but rather boxed in the area and covered in indoor/outdoor carpeting in black. -
stripping chrome / alclad
Modelbuilder Mark replied to mgruenwald's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Same here, to clean up the part, "un"-hide the buried detail and basically make sure the chrome lays down even. If I could afford it, I would buy one of those liquid chrome kits I have seen advertized. -
Hey Danno, At what point in AZ here do you get to skip the emissions because it is a classic or antique?

Full Detail 1964 Ford Galaxie (built from promo kit)
Modelbuilder Mark replied to Rod's topic in Model Cars
OK, just scanned through all the notes again, and I either missed it or it is not there, but what did you use for the interior side panesl to eliminate the dog legs? I too am doing a build similar, and while I cut up most of the interior to use, I just do NOT like the side panel detail. Is there a resin piece? -
Gluing "half" tires
Modelbuilder Mark replied to Faust's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I won't need measurements, I have one of those kits around. Just fire me off your address and I will send you a decent set of period correct tires for the car. -

MODELHAUS PRODUCTS PICS
Modelbuilder Mark replied to Tom Kren's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Hey Michael, I hate to hear that you feel somone was attacking you. I hate when anyone in a social forum like this makes things personal that are not and puts someone else out and makes them uncomfortable. Some folks like to stir the muck tho. Having said that, I re-read all the posts since your intitial post, and I did not take any of them as someone saying you were wrong, but rather educating someone that pointed out, and to some extent asked why, the cost of something is so high. I myself read your post as a question within a comment. "I don't know about others......but I would think", probably made others think you were asking for feedback. I thought that is what they were offering, feedback, not pushback. The first time I said something similar was about American Satco Tires on another forum maybe 15 years ago, and I also pointed out it was just "too much for ME" but i got actual pushback from the owner when he called me out on a forum and basically poked fun at me for saying I thought they were too much for MY budget. (IIRC they were roughly the same price as a kit at the time or at least close) At that point, I could care less the quality, or cost of his products, becase it became personal and I would never buy a product from them. -
How to books
Modelbuilder Mark replied to NHRA715's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
There have indeed been several books (glorified thiker magazines) over the years, and if you are like me, I like that resource material at hand...BUT...that being said, it really does depend on what you are looknig to accomplish. Basic building, weathering, dioramas, rusting, better paint etc, these are ALL subjects that have had books written specifically to them, and many more. (I happen to have three of the above sitting here on my desk at work that I brought in to go over again after many years of having not read them) Just look online and you can surf and find sources to buy them, amazon, ebay, etc. I must agree, this forum and others like it, and the builders that frequent them, can be a valuable resource. Also, check out Youtube, you can often get great tips there as well. -

Yup, strain and keep on using. Many many more than a few bodies. You can use coffee filters, or even paint strainer from the paint store. -
64 Ford Galaxy (new pics 10/30/13)
Modelbuilder Mark replied to Modelbuilder Mark's topic in WIP: Model Cars
The pic is not very good, (taken on my step-daughters cell phone) but I got the foil done today. I still need to finish the polishing, and then start final assembly. Having a hard time getting the foil on the door handles, so I will likely Alclad them. Will take some better pictures this week. -
Very nice.

Looks really good to me.

This turned out really cool.

Heck yeah, if you can get it here, that is great. I was just thinking Fujimi vs buying another kit as you mentioned. I have never attempted to obtain replacement parts from them, so I did not even know if they did it or not. I have heard tho, that due to language barriers, you may have actually write Hobbylink Japan. Good luck!
