Chevy bow tie logo goes functional
Fabrux replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
You know I was sitting in a parking lot today and noticed a late 2000s Buick that had a hollowed out grille emblem. I think all the latest Buicks have that, too. Try as they might I don't think anyone is associating a modern Buick with racing... -
Walmart/Peterbilt WAVE

Please see this thread down in The Truck Stop. http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=85991 -
The biggest problem in this situation is the images that the Acme maker produces. If you can find a higher resolutuon picture of the base blate you want to replicate and then add your text in GIMP or something like it (Paint.NET etc) you may have better results.

77 GMC Rollback
Fabrux replied to shas's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Looks good, other than that Revell labelled the box wrong; it is actually a 79-80. -
97 Ford dually
Fabrux replied to Grzegorz's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
I like this! Better than the Super Duty, IMO. -
1980 GMC Jimmy

I'm going with a SBC, probably from one of the MPC squarebody kits. -
My copy of the Boondocker kit doesn't have either a bowtie on the hood or a separate piece on the chrome tree. Also, the Blazer grille and hood don't fit very well on the pickup body.

Looks like the Coyote X (Manta Montage)! I like it.

I guess I should've paid more attention in first year mechanics! But, given that my area of work deals with immovable objects, I wasn't too concerned with objects that do... I do remember, though, that angular displacement and velocity are different than their linear equivalents...

When I was attending university, the local Chevrolet and Toyota dealerships were owned by the same family. One of the younger members had a Cavalier of this vintage and used the family connections to order all the Toyota-specific components for the Cavalier and built a LHD version. The upholstery on the seats is apparently different as well. On the subject of the Matrix/Vibe: what I always found amusing is that the Japan market version of the Matrix is actually a Vibe.

The Indy drag combo with the Novas has another set in the background that could be issued now but couldn't back when it was new...

...except when it isn't. I have a Nikon One J1 and I find myself fighting with the auto macro setting a lot. I have to be really careful with it because I have to physically move the lens in and out to zoom; this affects the macro setting greatly. I have to sit and play with it to figure out the ISO settings better, though.

An update to my pictures I posted above. All moved in now and have everything just about all squirreled away. The downsides I have discovered are that there are only two outlets in the hobby room, and there is no built-in heat; the heater you can see above is not wired in. The electric fireplace is my only source of heat in the whole basement! I have a heat-blocking curtain hung between the two rooms to heat the hobby room easier. The cord hanging above my desk is for a 3 ft power bar that supplies outlets for my computer, lamps, modems for phone and internet, etc. Sure is nice to have some room to stretch now!

What type of "Box Art" do you prefer?
Fabrux replied to Greg Myers's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
My preference would be as follows: Stylized artwork of the subject vehicle on the box top. Can be a whimsical painting (like old AMT) or retouched photo of a built model (like late MPC). Photos of built model on box sides. If there are more than one building options or addition parts like wheels, they should all be shown. Photos of the parts trees on the box bottom (like Round 2). We probably won't get all three in one kit. -
1980 GMC Jimmy
Fabrux replied to Fabrux's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
It is...okay. A lot of the Revell kits of this era were somewhat lacking. It looks good from a distance, but when you put it side-by-side with the MPC Blazer you really notice the stretched wheelbase. -
I managed to pick up a couple Revell snap kit 1978 Blazer kits and, unlike the last Blazer I built, I've set off to try and up the detail of this one. I started off with shaving the emblems and enlarging the grille opening to use the chrome piece from the recently reissued 1977 GMC Wrecker kit, which is actually a 79/80 grille. I added a six scale inch lift and removed the molded in engine. As you can see, I still need to remove the mounting peg from the interior tub. I'm also going to hollow out the fan shroud to open up room for an engine fan.

Another Hemi Car: Come On..REALLY?
Fabrux replied to 69NovaYenko's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Apparently the slant 6 wasn't available in the Charger until mid-year 1968. http://www.curbsideclassic.com/curbside-classics-american/curbside-classic-1968-dodge-charger-six-rarer-than-a-hemi-charger/ -
Normally it wouldn't be an issue, but my wife and daughter were in the store buying stuff. Had to get their stuff and pre-pay for the fuel. I'm wondering if there has been any studies done comparing sales inside the store before and after implementation of a pre-pay/pay at the pump policy?

What an odd looking truck. http://www.theblaze.com/stories/2014/02/18/see-the-futuristic-concept-truck-walmart-wants-to-use-to-maximize-efficiency-on-the-road/#

To convert the AMT 72 kit to a 69 you'd need the grille and hood specific to 69-70. You can get away with the 72's hood if you don't mind not having the bowtie on the leading edge.

Which kit did you snag, Ron? The 2WD or 4WD version?

Thanks, Daniel. Once you have them listed on your website I will order some along with a hitch.

Here in the land of sanity only the biggest gas stations (10+ pumps) will have pre-pay only pumps, and those are usually the ones farthest from the store. Most places also have the option to pay at the pump; those that don't are very rare. My wife and I do not use credit cards; we use our debit cards which are different than what you have in the US. It is only within the past year or so that our debit cards work in the US, which is great.

Picked up another bunch of parcels at my US PO box today and got another Revell snap 78 Blazer and the Revell 65 Chevy pickup and Hemi Hydro combo kit. Found a BIN auction for $12 for that one and had to jump on it!
