ramcharger from gone fishing kit year
Fabrux replied to youpey's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
The Monogram Ramcharger is a 79-80. This was also the last of the Ramchargers with a removable roof, but I have yet to successfully remove one... :/ -
Glad to help!

To preserve the frame geometry and keep everything where it should be, you need to add 18 scale inches in front of the front spring perches and 6 scale inches behind them. This will convert your 6 foot bed frame into an 8 foot bed frame and should have the end result of centering the axle with the bed.

My dad and I use Mastercraft tools almost exclusively and don't usually have many problems with them. I've had two ratchets replaced in my socket set due to broken mechanisms and between the two of us I've lost count how many torx bits we've broken. But, every time Canadian Tire replaces them no questions asked.

When my wife and I purchased a new-to-us vehicle on the 12th, I talked the dealer into giving us a new ser of all season tires (it had winters on it) and a trailer hitch. They ordered them the Monday after we picked it up and arrived this past Monday. I made an appointment today for 9AM to get them installed. For a loaner, they gave us our old car. The service manager said I wouldn't get our new vehicle back until supper time (!). I get a call at 4PM informing me that they brought our vehicle in the shop at 1PM (!!), spent three hours drilling out a broken tap they used as a thread chaser, and they wouldn't be done with the vehicle until mid-day tmorrow because they didn't have the tires changed yet (!!!). The dealership was very quick to make the sale and get us into our new vehicle but now that they aren't making any more money off of us they don't seem to care about customer service anymore. I was considering taking the vehicle to them for future servicing but that will most certainly not be the case now. One-and-a-half working days for a job that should take an hour tops is simply ridiculous and unacceptable.

Show us some unusual Mustangs
Fabrux replied to Greg Myers's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Ha! Supposedly the name comes from a quarter mile goal they were aiming for. Also, four different cars went into building it -
Newt's Boneyard - good vendor?

Great to deal with and I think he's a member here as well. -
Show us some unusual Mustangs
Fabrux replied to Greg Myers's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
It was a concept for a 1970 Shelby built by Car Craft. Started with a stock 1969, used a Shelby front clip, unique grille, filled in the hood vents, and used a Cougar dash. Apparently this blue one and a red one were made before Ford and Shelby split. I'll build one one of these days... -

1969 Quarter Horse -
It is actually a 2011 and has 118k kms on it now (about 73k miles). But it is fully loaded and has much, much more room than our trade in (a Pontiac G3). It is amazing how much space you lose when toting a baby around!

Lets See Your Truck Collection.
Fabrux replied to Platerpants's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Here are some that I have completed. Some are rather old builds and I'm amazed to see how far I've come in my building skills. Please excuse the dust and the blur; apparently I need a tripod! -
It was actually on Saturday, but we brought this home: Who says you can't make deals at used car lots? I think we made off pretty good! Got them to throw in a new set of all season tires and a hitch!

Best product to remove corrosion from polished aluminum wheels?
Fabrux replied to Harry P.'s topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
Is it corrosion of the metal or just the clear coat? If it is just the clear coat you can strip it with muriatic acid and re-apply. -
1981 Chevy K20
Fabrux replied to Fabrux's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
I have looked, but I prefer the look of these wheels for this build. Sort of a retro MPC vibe to it. -

I have many of those wheels; not interested for this build. -
I have finally worked up the courage to give airbrushing a go and picked up a compressor and Badger single-action airbrush from a club member on the cheap. Problem is, the compressor has no information on it other than a sticker on top that says "Profit With Paasche Air Equipment." There is no pressure gauge on it, only a thumb screw for adjusting the pressure so I am pretty much shooting blind here. This is the little beasty: Doing a Google image search for Paasche compressors shows one that looks similar to this (D500), but it is blue and the air outlet is on the opposite side. If I knew what model compressor this is I might be able to find some specifications somewhere that gives its output pressure at full and I can go from there. I will eventually pick up a gauge but this'll help me get going now. Thanks!

1981 Chevy K20
Fabrux replied to Fabrux's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Yeah, the wheels are definitely out of scale. The rims and tires actually are interchangeable with the Fall Guy set. I have a Revellogram GMC but those wheels are being used in another project. -
1981 Chevy K20
Fabrux replied to Fabrux's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
This one is staying a shortie. I have a complete Ground Pounder plus another missing only the suspension that will be an excellent candidate for a LWB con version. -
Since the Tow Rig and Trailer CBP seems to have died, I'll post this WIP here. Starting with the MPC Sodbuster 1981 Chevy pickup kit, which actually carries Custom Deluxe 20 badges, which by 1981 reckoning would make this beasty a ¾ ton. I used the wheel and tire combo from an MPC Dodge kit and ended up with this: I cobbled together a big block engine to stuff in the engine bay from my parts bin. The 454 ci engine was supposedly not available for trucks below 8500 lbs GVWR, but I'd like to think that someone with connections/money might've been able to tick option LE8 on a K20. And a combo shot with what's being towed: And so it sat for about a year (remember what I said about the CBP dying? ). After moving and inspired by Tom Geiger's Amnesty Project, I dug this build out and figured I might try and get it built for my club's show in May. I started by adding the trim piece below the rear window that wraps around to the doors: And filling in the cab corners: I tried disassembling my parts bin BBC in an attempt to fix a crooked head and ended up destroying the poor thing. I never really liked how it looked in there anyway. So, I dug out an AMT 70 Monte Carlo kit I had picked up for parts and nabbed the engine, BB radiator, AC condenser, and brake booster. Engine all tarted up: I think the blue I used is a little light for GM Corporate Blue, but it'll have to do for this build. For my next 1980+ MPC pickup build I'll get a darker blue.

It's not that rare; I've seen it pop up for sale online several times.
