Airbrush sputtering problem
CadillacPat replied to JM485's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Is it spitting water? Do you have a water trap? CadillacPat -
That's the way to do it. But I have to tell you, if you shorten and straighten out that duct you will double your airflow. Can you put the range hood on the back so it is in line with the spray from your AirBrush? That will sure help also. What about hose vent holes in the hood? CadillacPat

Thanks Guys, The '50 Ford was one of the first HW's I did body mods on back around 2000. Stay tuned for the next modded version of this subject!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! CadillacPat

Whats the best masking tape?
CadillacPat replied to flynstyrn's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Tamiya is superior by far. I buy mine from Hobylinc, 10 rolls at a time of the 6mm, 10mm and 18mm. Purchase the dispensors and all you need from then on is just the rolls themselves. Hobylinc always has discounts and sale prices on Tamiya. -
Excellent on both techniques. Always good to see others who are serious about having a good time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! CadillacPat

grex airbrushs - which model is the best?
CadillacPat replied to 426hemiman's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Do you use, or have you tried, other brands of AirBrushes? Just wondering why you decided on a Grex other than their odd shape. CadillacPat -
I think the majority of readers in any Forum visit mostly for the information. It weakens an informative site when it's flooded with emoticons, smileys, or the ever recurring one word replies,"Awesome" When correct and legit info is posted it makes people return for more. Some people visit to read and some visit mostly to reply. Check your View Counts and see how they out number the Replies. More people are interested in just reading and then going on to something else. It's still somewhat Social, akin to how some can talk for an hour on the phone and others like to get things said and move on. CadillacPat

Scales and decal sizing help needed
CadillacPat replied to flynstyrn's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
If you decide to make the leap to creating your own Decals I have a sure fire method for sizing them. I use this for my own DieCast Customs. First take scans of the Model you wish to apply the Decals to. Make these scans at 300 dpi or 600 dpi. I use a box with one end open placed over the Model as it is being scanned. This blocks ouside light. If the left and right sides are identical, in most Models, then you need only scan one side. You can flip a left image to make a right image. Scan the Sides, Roof, Hood and Trunk. You may need small items to block the Model body so that scanned surfaces are parallel with the scanner screen. Save the images at 300 or 600 dpi as a jpg or even better, a bitmap. I save everything at 600 for good clarity. Now scan and make files of the Decals you wish to copy. You can make adjustments if necessary, like color intensity. All that's left is to open a scan file of your Model, layer the Decal file on top of it, reduce the opacity of the Decal layer so you can see through it and adjust it to the underlying layer of the body scan. Make your fit, return the Decal layer to 100% opacity, turn off all other layers, and save as. Do this for each section of the car you need to Decal, then compile your Decals on a print sheet. I am the Mod over on Decal Talk and all I use is Clear InkJet Decal Paper from Papilio.com I make Decals for a lot of DieCast you see on Ebay. Any questions just ask! CadillacPat -

why do some people insist on details?

Posted 02 January 2013 - 07:44 PM CadillacPat, on 02 Jan 2013 - 15:52, said: Unlike some I don't believe that Fun is diametrically opposite to being Serious about your work. Shades of Wheelman in that reply. The attitude against people who do[/ take their work seriously was something Mike was very passionate about, and I tend to agree. I don't see anything wrong with taking this hobby seriously, either, and if someone builds for the sole purpose of competing and winning trophies, more power to them. A perfectly polished out paint job and loads of aftermarket sourced parts may not be your or my thing, but there's room for everyone in this hobby, regardless of what, why, or how you build. Casey I don't know who Wheelman is but it appears we have some thoughts in common about being serious and passionate about this Art. Just build what you want/how to build man. It's all for fun In saying that thou man. I have noticed on this site if you don't build award winning cars or your not in a certain circle of people you get very little replys to your builds man. It makes you want to give up sometimes dude HippieDude, don't give replies a second thought. Their fine for the social part of a Forum or for those who feel they must rreply to each and every thread, But, Many serious Modelers and Hobbyists choose to view or read, and not play. I sell what I build so I never think about comments even when I post the work. Just let them all look, then build some more and post it up too. Emoticons and attaboys don't mean much to me. There's always a clique or circle on any site. Just let your work speak for itself. Some replies aren't worth the bandwidth it takes to display them. posting photos
CadillacPat replied to Dragfreak's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
PhotoBucket has changed in one instance. I still use the original version of PB but no longer do I right click to highlight the IMG and then left click to Copy, A single left click on the IMG copies the post, I wonder if some people are messing up by attempting to copy by first using the Right Click?? why do some people insist on details?
CadillacPat replied to meaneyme's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Just like anything I do, the more fun it is the more seriously I enjoy it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Unlike some I don't believe that Fun is diametrically opposite to being Serious about your work. The more you like doing something it only supports the fact that you are serious about it. It is amazing that anyone could oppose adding more detail to a project. If you want your's plain then build it plain. If you want to go the distance then do whatever you like. Does anyone really build a Model with other opinions in mind? Who cares!!!!!!!!!!!! why do some people insist on details?
CadillacPat replied to meaneyme's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Is there really a clear division among Model Builders against anyone who can afford to embellish their projects with fine detailed parts????? Is this becoming a trend, hating people who are successful. There may be a segment of Stage Mom Modelers who MUST see their baby win. But, Most people I know, even if they enter works of their own, attend Model Shows to see what is on the table. Drama, drama, drama, who needs it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Oh yeah, and about those mentioned Aftermarket Supply Companies who are determining contest winners??? That's baloney!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Get real!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! CadillacPat -

Very Sharp!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The mark of a good Model is having difficulty determining it's scale, because it appears so real in pictures. CadillacPat -
Mark I have a green one sitting right in front of me. The orange looks great and the Decals are sharp and crisp.. I've always liked this HW. I remember around 1970 Dino Martin, son of Dean Martin, had a yellow P3 that was in HotRod Mag and the pics were on Hollywood Blvd. so It was being driven on the street. CadillacPat

AzTom, Regarding your threat to curtail the 1st amendment here by deleting the posts offering useful info that you aren't privy to. Seems like recently our U.S. Constitution is being treated like it came with an eraser to be easily changed. I'm actually amused at your forceful and adamant replies, and would never ask for them to be removed. Why would I, I could care less?? AzTom, I'm just making a suggestion here but maybe more fiber in your diet might be necessary. All that talk about worshipping National this and National that Agencies tells me you are exactly what they want, people who will do what they say and not ask questions. That just does not apply to me. Hobbyists and Artists not only ask questions, they innovate, they invent, to improve their craft. Some of us don't need all those Govt. regulations and I think your time would be better used not trying to scare people. Heck, you can fingerpaint your Models for all I care. You did finally confess that, quote, "YOU HAVE NEVER SEEN A BATHROOM FAN EXPLODE WHILE BEING USED IN A PAINT BOOTH " Honsetly, I put my Tutorials out there for anyone to use them. It just amazes me when someone else, through no experience of their own, tries to quash a thought because they heard from someone who heard from someone, and so on and so on. I can say, I BUILT THAT and IT WORKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And, so can many others I've helped!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! CadillacPat
