BLever, as a self-reliant Artist who likes to design and build the tools I use in my Shop, I admire your drive. Like all Forums ther are many Members who come here just for the info and rarely post. I've received several PM's and Emails from those here who want detailed info on building their own TableTop Paint Booth but are hesitant to post not wanting to be hit with the usual bombardment of unbased negativity from a handful of people. Don't let anything get in your way. The whole world today gained proof to not believe old wives tales or urban gossip. Build your Booth, use it and become better at what you do. If you have any questions, just do like the others here and write me. The sky is not falling and as a Hobbyist you are ahead of the pack when you think out of the box and don't walk the line. What Airbrush to choose
CadillacPat replied to Janthlie's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Don't forget to watch eBay. When my original Badger 180-11 Compressor finally bit the dust after 8 years or so of constant daily use, I purchased a brand new Badger Tornado 180-22 from eBay for $99 regular around $300. It pushes 65psi, enough to run 2 guns. and, came with a Regulator. I prefer these smaller type portable Compressors. CadillacPat -

It's an All American Event that personifies success and good old Capitalism. A parade of great cars to watch right from the living room. One of the few TV Car Shows where the Car is actually the star. CadillacPat -
Experiments with Duplicolr Prism Multi-Color Clear.
CadillacPat replied to Longbox55's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
This product is giving the same results as an older product additive named Prizmatique. Like a pearl additive, only much larger, you added the Prizmatique into the clear in whatever quantities or ratios desired. CadillacPat -
What Airbrush to choose
CadillacPat replied to Janthlie's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Hi, I want to step up to an airbrush system, but having a hard time choosing what to buy. I need not only the airbrush itself, but also a compressor and all the little bits and pieces to go. Is there some nice kits out there? Jan you'll need an AirBrush, Compressor, Hose, Regulator and Water Trap. It wouldn't hurt to put a second small water trap at the AirBrush. What is the recommended pressure? How much airflow from the compressor (is 23 litre/min good enough?) You need at least 35psi from the Compressor. I paint at about 25psi, sometimes less and sometimes more depending on what is coming out of my Gun. To my understanding a dual action is the best choice, but it seems to me that it can be hard to make a consistent spray, giving you can regulate both air and paint. I would suggest for anyone to start by using a double action airbrush. The guns are better made and atomize paint much finer. I have several AirBrush Guns and when I used my first double action I wished I had started out with one. A decent double action gun is only a few bucks more than a single action and still within your $300 total budget. Does any have a set-srew or something that makes me able to adjust the paint-/airflow? Good point! Yes, any double action gun can be set to maintain a consistent paint flow. Better guns can be purchased that have an additional set screw (mac screw) below the front of the gun making even further adjustments possible. Budget is about $2-300 for a complete set (if possible) I've got a couple of AirBrush Tutorials on an AirBrush Forum Site about Guns and Compressors and links to find them. I'll try to find the links and in the meantime I'm sure you'll get lots of recommendations from AirBrushers here. -
Thanks Gray, I'll post pics of the SOA Hummer when I put it together,

Scalenut do you find that slanted rear design takes up a lot of space in the Booth? I have to imagine if someone is using hand held stands and turning the Model as they spray, upside down and inside out, that touching the body to the filter might take time to learn to avoid. It's very different from having a veritcal rear wall, but if your Model is sitting still then probably not a problem. -
Thanks Darren, Creating Graphics and laying down Paint is the most fun for me because color choices are so important in the final product.

Inkjet printing on BMF?
CadillacPat replied to sjordan2's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Bright chrome surfaces do not lend themselves well as a background or substrate for showing InkJet Decals. The chrome is actually too dark for good color transfer. Did you try entering your printer settings at Glossy Photo Paper for the slick surface of the BMF?? -
