History of Monogram's Squarebody GM Pickups
The70judgeman replied to Fabrux's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
TOO MUCH...And I've seen them for more than $130-$140 sealed, but they keep going back for sale because they want too much for them and nobody's buying them. Just wish Revell would listen to modelers and produce what WE want and not what they THINK we want. I've contacted a couple of model company's before with the same answer..."thanks for the suggestion, but no thanks". So, what can we do? -
History of Monogram's Squarebody GM Pickups
The70judgeman replied to Fabrux's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
The Sheriff's Blazer was one of my first glue models in 1982. Now I'm hit with nastalgia lately and want to aquire another or two. Even the Jimmy would work too. One to build and one to stash away in my "vault". But, for what they're selling for now a days...they're only for the vault. A buildable one, if you're lucky, is still a bit much. I've seen a few on ebay from time to time that were cheaper, but I seem to always miss it. There is one guy selling a complete kit in "parted out" listings. Haven't added it up, but I'm very sure it'll be very pricy to aquire all the parts. Wish Revell/Monogram would re-release the Blazer(Jimmy) again. THAT was a REAL Blazer. Not the S-10 version "puppy" , and I hate to say this...truck(hardly). Can't wait for the P/U w/plow comes out. I've got a set of really nice A/T tires that I've been saving for a decent 4x4 truck to replace those stupid Tracker A/T's. -
I think you're kind of boxed in with the yellow exterior color. Black or white for the interior is probably about it for stock. Google it like Patrick said, but I think you'll find two choices. Otherwise...break away and do something wild. It was the '70's and Chrysler products had some pretty wild interiors. Check out the latest issue of Hemming's Muscle Machines Magazine. There's an article on a '75 Plymouth Road Runner. It has an interior called "Sundance". It's a multi-colored thin striped insert in the seats and doors. Just look around at all makes of cars. By the mid 70's there were some outlandish interiors by all the companies. Horsepower was down or non-existant and it was "look at me" time.

Mine just arrived today about an hour after I was at the hobby store I ordered them from (Pearl EX). I even checked at the service desk to see if they were in yet before I left. Well...back to the hobby store tomorrow...oh darn. Can't wait to start using them. Good luck with yours.

I LOVE THAT MOVIE!!! Terrible acting, but it was about all the cars. That Challenger looks like the Revell 2'n1. I'm starting with the same kit and building the one from Vanishing Point. Of course...later in the movie before the final crash. All weathered and dirty. And @Walter: Nice job on the Eleanor's.

Where do you buy?
The70judgeman replied to jayhkr's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I guess I'm going to be the odd man out. I'm fortunate to have two decent LHS's in my area. One of them also offers an on-line store and has sites on ebay and Amazon. So their prices are $3-$5 less, because they buy in such bulk to supply everything...store front and on-line. The other store sells mostly full retail, but I can special order stuff that is currently available. I don't use credit cards and I don't trust paypal...my account got hacked once. I have a few Michael's stores in the area, but model selection/supplies is very minimal. The closest Hobby Lobby isn't worth the 60 or so miles round-trip for me either when the 2 LHS's are just a couple of miles from me. But, there is also a scale model and toy show 3 times a year and other car show/swap meets that I can buy models at too in my area. -
I know which table you are talking about. Bill used to work at Model Empire. He retired from there last summer and works part-time for someone else. You must have come by the table after I was there. I bought one of two GNX's off that table. As for the GTX...I didn't really need it, but thought I could build something with it. Even with the chrome missing...and I have plenty of tires/rims already. But, for $4.00...you can't go wrong there. And yeah...he had some decent kits too. Think I got the Cobra from him also.

Ok...here's a pic of the stuff I've picked up over the last week or so. All of the vans,Camaro, and Nova I got at Model Empire. The Charger squad at Greenfield News & Hobby. The Turbo T/A's I made a trade with Randy Armstrong from here on the Forum. Thanks Randy! And all the rest I picked up today at the Serb Hall show.

Scale Model and Toy Show Milwaukee
The70judgeman replied to The70judgeman's topic in Contests and Shows
That would have been a good weekend. Good food, still one of...if not the best fish fry in town, and tons of models. Maybe in November. November 4th to be exact. -
No pics, but 3 Revell '77 Chevy vans, another AMT Vantasy, a Revell VW T1 Samba Bus, black flocking for a '69 ZL1 Camaro(Revell '69 Yenko Camaro w/COPO Nova steel rims and poverty caps), and photo-etched wire looms(they were out of '69 Camaro photo-etch). Guess it was a "van" and trim day for me.

Just a reminder. This Sunday, March 4th...Scale Moldel and Toy Show @ American Serb Hall, 10am-2pm, $5.00 cover. 2nd of three shows this year. Lots of tables. Tons of model kits old and new, die-cast...1/64th scale on up, promo's, and old collector toys. Next/last show of the year in November.
-
Wow...that turned out sweet for a trial run. Great detailing. What color is that if you don't mind me asking? I've got that kit and kind of started to part it out, but I may try something like that to save the kit from becoming a complete basket case. Love the Pontiac's.

YOUR LOCAL HOBBY SHOP ECONOMY
The70judgeman replied to Dr. Cranky's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Aside from my LHS's, there are some swap meets around like this Sunday. There's always a large crowd so parking is the problem, but it a decent show. It's the second show of three this year. My wife and I caught the last one in November last year, but missed the first one in January. It's much bigger than I thought. Plenty of vendors/tables and 1000's of models. I picked up 5 or 6 kits for cheap or very reasonable. Even my wife enjoyed the show and picked up a kit. And she doesn't build...although she's going to give it a try. If your in Milwaukee this Sunday, check it out. -
I have a tackle box for modeling. I do most of my model work in front of the idiot box in the livingroom, so it's convenient to pack it up and take it away. It didn't cost me anything, because I had a gift certificate. So I got a pretty big one and it filled up fast. I heard the lady comment to her husband behind me in the check-out say "that's not a tackle box...that's luggage". I didn't look at her, but kind of smiled as I left the store.

What are the best types of airbrushes?
The70judgeman replied to Kaleb's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Another thing to consider is how comfortable it is. If it's not...you probably won't use it. If you can, go somewhere that has multiple types and brands to see what is the best for your hand and ask plenty of questions. Also price...you don't need the most expensive airbrush around. Personally, I'd go with a decent double-action. It's a better all-around choice if you're serious about using it alot. I'm not going to mention any brands, because that'll be something you'll have to decide on your own. I'm sure you'll get some opinions though. It's what's best for you that counts. -

My username comes my favorite car...the 1970 GTO Judge. The forum for some reason, and I'm not the only one, won't let me post an avatar. If I could, it would be of The Judge. -

General Lee Paint
The70judgeman replied to JMD904's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
You're gonna get plenty of responses on this. First off...you're gonna need a '69 taillight pannel as '68 & '69 are completely different. Are you going to mix a custom color or use a rattle can? Rattle cans would limit your color choice. If using a rattle can, I'd use Testor's Hemi Orange Laquer. As far as the interior, you'd have to find some tan color for the best match and I'm sure you'll get plenty of suggestions on that too. Different shades and paint companies too. Just check out different General Lee builds...I'm sure those guys could help you out with paint and parts you'll need to finish your model.
