It started on Monday when my wife and I went to Michael's. I had a 40% off coupon. Bought a '49 Merc and a '79 Camaro Z28 on clearance. Got another 40% off coupon on my receipt. Went back again today to use it before it expired on Saturday. I picked out a 1950 Chevy 3100 P/U and another Z28. Got to the checkout and the girl couldn't get the coupon to scan. After she and another cashier couldn't get it to work, they noticed it was only good for the 22nd-24th. I got the discount anyway and the coupon back. More kits? Also picked up a preasure regulater and a oil/water separater for my cheapy compresser. Oh yeah...and a fine mesh tea steeper for flocking.

Those were the "Amigo Packs" if I'm not mistaken. -
2012 POST APOCALYPSE/ZOMBIE HUNTER COMMUNITY BUILD
The70judgeman replied to Dr. Cranky's topic in Community Builds
Gone from the build for a while. No new update on my truck. My wife wanted in on the caravan. She got a built model off of ebay for cheap and we took it almost completely apart. She dosen't build models, but she found something she liked and wanted to go with it. So when she gets her mods done and the van back together, I'll weather them as well as another model project I'm working on. Figured I'll get them all weathered together and save time. Been keeping up on all the progress with everyones builds. Hopefully I'll have some new pics of our trucks soon. -
selling collections
The70judgeman replied to bbowser's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
15-20% from what I hear from one of the LHS's I go to. That's their profit, ebay's, from the shipping and what the item(s) sell for. That store also sells on Amazon...they take 15%. Bruce- I wouldn't mind seeing what you've got. I've been in a buying mood lately. Add me to the PM list if you don't mind. -
Revell's 1/24 '77 4x4 GMC Truck
The70judgeman replied to tooltas's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
The passenger side light mounted on the plow is backwards too. This is turning into a "what's wrong with this picture" game! Still picking up a couple when they eventually come out. -
I don't know the brand name of the decals, but they look very similar to some that I've used in the past. BE VERY CAREFUL IF YOU USE A DECAL SET! Was working on a project, decaling, and I'd apply a decal, dry it, and put on some decal set. Go on to another place for a decal and came back to a decal that was all eaten and totally messed up. So far it's only been that brand of after-market decals. I'd apply all of your decals and after they've dried...seal them with whatever clear you're going to use. You've come along too far with an excellent build to have the decals get all messed up.

When The Gloss Hits Your Eye--That's YOST!
The70judgeman replied to Dr. Cranky's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Beautiful work. Hope my Merc turns out as nice. That blue on the Willys is awesome. -
Nicely done. Got one of those myself in Sublime Green. Where did you get the license plates? I'm looking for a set of those for a current project. Building the "Vanishing Point" car.

History of Monogram's Squarebody GM Pickups
The70judgeman replied to Fabrux's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
Doubt it...it's been many years and a different e-mail address then. I'm not holding them to their word or anything. I know how it works with big business...we're the peons and they know what's best for us. -
History of Monogram's Squarebody GM Pickups

I contacted Revell over the weekend via Email and got a response today. At least it wasn't a "thanks, but no thanks". It was forwarded to their research and developement department. One can only hope, but maybe they'll start listening to people in the hobby more if we pester them enough. -
Awesome looking model, but I'd like to know more about the wood pannels. They're excellent.

What do you drive?
The70judgeman replied to gasman's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
No pic, but an '07 Hyundai Sonata. Bought it brand new. Had to get rid of my gas guzzling money pit of a pig '97 Chevy Z-71 P/U. Bought the car for the mileage and the excellent warranty. -
It's not that hard to use. Once you start...it's a much more welcome finish to you project. I've only just started using it myself in the last year. The only real drawback is the blades for your hobby knife get dull quicker. You have to have a sharp blade, or you'll tear the BMF. I bought a cheap knife set from a place like Harbor Freight a couple of years ago, and it came with a sharpening stone. I can get longer life out of my blades plus there are different size and kinds of blades in there.

Awesome build! Love the Pontiac motor too...I'm a Pontiac guy myself. Could you post a pic or two of the interior? Mostly want to see the skull shifter better. Looks pretty cool from what I can see.
-
Here's another little tip for BMF. I use a shading (blunt) tool to press and work the BMF into all the nooks and crannys, and smooth it out. You can probably get one in the drawing section at say...Michael's or Hobby Lobby. I like it instead of using my nails or something else that could tear the BMF in a bad spot.
-
Very nice. The color combo looks well finished and clean. I can't get past the "what color" stage and mine remains in primer since late last year.
-
If you don't want to use BMF and want to use paint on the trim (windows)...try using the thin Tamiya tape. I've done that with pretty good success. Especially with windshields with molded in trim. As far as painting scripts...a lightly loaded small brush and a steady hand. OR...photo etched pieces if available for that particular model.

International 4300
The70judgeman replied to bandit1's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
I learned how to drive tractor/trailer in a Transtar 4300 for my former job. Way under powered for the job we were using it for though. It was our "yard dog". It was fine most of the time...until we loaded 60' concrete double T's (TT's) for parking decks and had to go park the trailer. Easy to drive though. Sorry...no pics. -
I'm sure you know this already, but there are generally two types of rear tires (drives) for tractors. Highway tires with a smaller and quieter tread pattern and a more aggressive tread pattern for off-road work sites where there is a dirt or gravel access road. The tires in your picture are a little too aggressive for a drive tire. They look cool, but IMHO, they're a bit too much. Most kit tires are highway tires that I've seen. This is from kits I have and experience working/driving tractor/trailers at a former job for over ten years.

Looking as classy as a '59 Caddy can be! Very nice graphics and color combo.

polishing paint
The70judgeman replied to Action Jackson's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Personally...I wouldn't do it. I thought it would be an easier and faster way to do it. Got away with it once, I'm talking about Danbury Mint die-cast models, and on the second model...well, the wheel slipped and the screw on retainer hit the paint. Now I have a nice die-cast car...on one side. Polishing a plastic model, I still wouldn't do it. You kind of answered your own question. You risk burning through the paint and even worse...you might heat up the plastic and warp it. Hand polish the car if you must. -
The '72 kit is the doner kit to finish the resin body which is most likely a casting from the MPC kit of the '70 GTO. I have a conversion kit myself with separate corrected parts...lights [head lights(clear resin),turn signals(clear), and rear(red)], the rear spoiler, front chin spoiler, and even found some correct splitter exhaust tips.

History of Monogram's Squarebody GM Pickups
The70judgeman replied to Fabrux's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
There was a guy on ebay that had one up for bid a few weeks ago. It looked pretty good. Had pictures of the real truck from the movie as well as the model for comparison. Very close to dead on accurate.
