  1. I like them because they can't be rivet counted and because they inject humour into what some people make a very dry pastime. Model building is a hobby. It's something I do to wind down and relax. If i'm getting stressed then i'm doing it wrong. It's not work. Wherever possible I like to add a little humour, to build with my tongue firmly in my cheek and to twist towards the zany side of things. Ed Roth knew where it was at - if you're offending the "grown ups" then you're doing something right.
  2. I'm heading up for a break at the start of July. Any tips on Model shops worth visiting in Honolulu?
  3. NIce chairs. Do not make the common mistake of assuming that the kit has scale fidelity. Manufacturers will "adjust" dimensions for various reasons. Some times something as basic as so that it fits in their standard box. My golden rule of model building is "if it looks right it is right". This particularly applies to scratchbuilding.
  4. 0 warnings is OK. But watch out if it says Double Secret Probation...
  5. If I were you i'd stamp my feet and bang my fists until I got production of the LS7 powered HSV W427 version restarted for import... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HSV_W427 http://www.hsv.com.au/e3/showroom/
  6. Do you guys not think that just maybe there is some irony involved here? Quite a lot in the Panda suit pic. And a lot of Chromey as well...
  7. So why is it economically viable to tool up & produce a die cast Tucker but not a plastic kit? Is it simply the retail price is so much higher or that they will sell more?
  8. I just never fit the rear view mirror...
  9. It did. Then I remembered it would be left hand drive.. The loop behind the seats looks narrow to me. Aren't they usually the full width of the cabin?
  10. The paint job I was ruining looked just like your door panels. I even tried to sand it back and then clear over it for a crackle effect (it was black over gold) but that failed as well so now it's taking a bath.
  11. I see where you're going wrong Brian. To glue skin to skin you need MEDICAL GRADE CA Adhesive...
  12. Christian - I have the same problem. It's down to the sellers taking the easy option and just quoting the USPS price. Try contacting them and asking them if they are willing to use a cheaper & slower service without tracking (tracking is useless anyway after the shipment hits customs entering a new country).
  13. Yeah! I'd a left them like that. They look cool. I've been busy finishing a build for a show in April. Then I was ruining a paintjob and now i'm finishing a build for a show at the end of May (another '60 Chevy pick up so think of it as a trial run). However, we got loads of time...
  14. How's the feeling in that thumb now Brian? It's just that I did something similar to a finger at work (slicing silicone caulking off of a Dozer with a box cutter), didn't get it stitched and ever since the very end has been numb... Nerve damage I guess, but would getting it professionally seen to have prevented it?
  15. Holding cap of Superglue in mouth while gluing parts. Went to put nozzle of bottle back into cap & missed. Result - bottle of CA glue attached to lip. Stripping chrome. I have to Caustic Soda solution made up so I make nice strong batch and while it is still gassing out I throw the parts in. Who knew the exothermic reaction taking place would be bhot enough to twist & warp the parts?* Got the chrome & the lacquer off real quick though. * I did actually. I just forgot and was in a hurry. And as for the Exacto rolling off of the bench - best tip I ever read (forget where) was to put a cable tie tight around the end of the handle and snip the lose bit off. It will stop any rolling and won't get in the way.

Not a criticism on your work - which is great, love the colour - but it bugs me the way they fit the headlight lenses with visible pins on the back.
  17. Excellant. Even got the steering wheel on the proper side. Great work opening up the doors.
  18. Thanks folks. Lawrence - it was an animated show.
  19. Love 'em. I've got one of the '37 bodies but this is the first time i've seen one built. Good work.
  20. That's aged beautifully.
  21. Looks like one from the same series David. I got mine from Hobby Link Japan (www.hlj.com) but other websites list them - all as sold out unfortunately. Maybe they'll repop them one day.
  22. Thanks guys. Erik - Sarcasm is good - it is after all the highest form of wit. The "real" thing is blue & white but I thought it looked so much like a jet plane it should be plain metal. Frank - it's wide but the front wheels are small. Probably scale out to less than 10" rims. Virg - From what i've seen of the cartoons they don't get up and fight but there are minor configuration changes for cornering or max speed.
  23. I was in 2 minds whether to post this here or in "other". But it's a car and if an '89 Batmobile is acceptable Under Glass... I built this as a change of pace. It's an Aoshima kit from an anime called Future GPX Cyber Formula. I used 4 different shades of silver & matt aluminium BMF to simulate polished metal body panels of different ages.
