Drag City Casting
Dan Helferich replied to RodBurNeR's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
You can't ask for a better caster or person than Ed! -
I played touch football with a bunch of friends every New Years day from 1970 to 1996. The last time was about a month before my 45th birthday. I had to drive 150 miles to play the game and 150 miles home afterward. When I got home my wife, very wisely, said," You know, you should think about retiring from the game before you get hurt". She was right and I did. I still miss it! She always tells people I think I'm 18 and act like I'm 12. I can live with that!

New Resin Bodies from Flintstone
Dan Helferich replied to 426hemiman's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Roger, I have 1 of the R&R '63's too so I feel your pain! I'd be interested in both the Olds and the Dodge. -
Ford or Merc question
Dan Helferich replied to jw78z28's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Bill's suggestion is a great one for a blown engine. There's an E Bay seller selling sets of 4 of these engines for $11.95 shipped. The AMT '60 Ford kit also has an excellent FE Ford and if you get the most recent issue it has 2 complete engines with 1x4, 2x4 & 3x2 carb setups. good luck in your search! -
The Lindberg '53 Ford has a flathead, '54 was the first year for the Y Block.
-
The new Revell '57 Ford has a 312 Y Block V8, externally the same as a 292. Y Blocks can also be found in the AMT '57 Ford, '56 Ford, '57 T Bird and '56 T Bird as well as the Revell '56 Ford pickup. These kits have a variety of intakes for this engine.

Oh, I forgot, Good Luck, sounds like a great career. I have a few friends who are EMT's and they all love it.

My wife's uncle tried to get me to become a fireman (he was a great one!) and I was interested until I saw the tower you had to jump off during training!

Anyone near here should check it out. Riders is a great hobby shop too!

Don Tognotti's King T, Vintage AMT Double Kit
Dan Helferich replied to jbwelda's topic in Model Cars
Very nice! I remember painting my original AMT Orchid Silk. It's so nice to see one built again. I wonder if this and the Wild Dream tools are hiding somewhere in the Round 2 archives? Once again very clean build! -
I got one yesterday. My only disappointment was the suspension, otherwise it looks like a good start for a mid to late '60's Hot Rod and also a good parts kit.
-
Very nice! I love the stance. Most of these I've seen built look like they have busted rear springs. Very cool Ford!

Anyone have photos of Jim Bucher's Chevy AA/FD?
Dan Helferich replied to Dan Helferich's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
Thanks guys! The fact that he was competitive with the big block Chevy just makes this a tempting build. The detail picks of the engine are extra cool! I was researching a Clayton Harris car back when Clayton was still alive and I could never find a good picture of the front top of the body. I could see it was a figure but couldn't make it out. A friend of mine knew him so I asked him to find out what it was. He gave me Clayton's phone number but I didn't call him, not wanting to bother him. About a month later the phone rang and a guy said "Is this Dan?" I said yes, he said Hi, this is Clayton Harris. Joe said you had a question about one of my cars. We talked for about 10 minutes, the figure on the car was Bugs Bunny. He was killed in a plane crash a couple of months later. He sure seemed like an everyday nice guy. Thanks to you all for your help! -
Nice! I like the color. I built one when they first came out and thought it was a very well designed kit. Assembly was very easy and I don't remember even one cuss word!

Removing laquer from Resin question
Dan Helferich replied to drodg's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
I haven't tried it but Terry Jesse recommended wiping (not soaking) with lacquer thinner on a rag. He said it's messy but it works. I have an AAM '40 Ford woody to strip and this is what I'll try first. Good luck! -
John's right , the axle in the Graffiti coupe is nice. There are some good parts in the kit but John Milner would not recognize the car built from the box.

Beautiful! Those who turn their noses up at vintage '60's AMT kits should see this. There is no substitute for an immaculate build of vintage plastic! I have 3 of these, including the one I bought in '64, to restore.

AMT '63 Split Window 'Vette?

I picked up 2 of the last issue for $10 each, factory sealed, at different toy shows last year. They are out there! -
AMT '63 Split Window 'Vette?
Dan Helferich replied to dmk's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
An interesting note about the issue Casey shows is that it contains both of the roadster up tops which were not in the last issue of the roadster. However, the roadster kit does have the glass for the up tops. These are very simple kits but I think AMT nailed the body so they look good built. -
It's just colors they aren't carrying anymore. They are $3.71 at the HL's near me. Some good colors in both lacquer and enamel. I even found 2 cans of metalizer! I sure like Randy's price better!

I won a MPC '32 Ford sedan delivery kit on Ebay at about 3AM this morning. This was the first kit I built on my return to the hobby in '88 (after a 12 year absence) and I've always wanted to do another in a more traditional style. Woo Hoo! Can't wait to get it.

Drew, your cars always look "right". I've been a fan of your builds for years and I think it's your photogragher's eye that allows to to capture the essence of what you are building. I'm old and lucky enough to have seen Garlits run a few times, including a burn down at staging against Steve Carbone. Garlits and Shirley are my all time favorites.
