  1. Its good you saved those kits. The plastic won't go bad so he can just take his time building them. Having your son help build them will make for some great Father/son time. Its a shame that there are a few bad apples in every bunch but you just have to learn to ignore them and reflect on all the postive comments coming from the group.
  2. Jim does great work but it took about 3 months to get my order and that was when he wasn't really backed up.
  3. I'm glad to hear you are enjoying the benefits of the CPAP machine Highway. I have been using that machine for about 12 yrs now and I too have much more energy and don't even get migranes anymore. It was my wife who pushed me to go for the sleep study and I'm really glad I listened to her.
  4. Great looking build. I love the paint scheme.
  5. I had that kit, but was pursuaded to trade it and I regretted for many years. I recently found an Orient Express on Ebay which is the same kit just different decals. They do pop up on Ebay but you have to be patient and be prepared to dig deep in your pockets for it. As others have said if you buy two of the reissue KW cabovers you can build your own for a fraction of the price of the Revell kit.
  6. That came out looking great. I love the paint job. My only suggestion would be to paint the 5th wheel.
  7. Excellent looking bus. Its a great subject to build. Too bad there are so few bus kits available.
  8. The two larger tires were originally in the Mack DM600, DM 800, DM800 mixer and Gravel trailer by MPC. When ERTL took over those kits they also incorporated those tires in the IH Transtar 11, Rubber Duck Mack, IH 4300 and Great Dan Van trailer and Reefer trailers. They can be found in most of the Round 2 AMT reissues now.
  9. That came out looking great. Nice save on that old built up. Decals look great too.
  10. I am working on a built up CO4070A that I got a while back. Its almost done, just need to find a few more of the missing parts. These old cabovers are one of my favourite models and getting harder to come by. The Transtar 11 is also going to be rebuilt one day.
  11. Nice build. I too had one when I was 6 or 7. That has to be one of my favourite trucks to build.
  12. Try contacting Daniel at Plaskit Resin. I bought a set of replacement tires for the Simba as mine had cracked up and gone flat and pulled away from the rims. His are made of hard resin. Here is his email plaskit_resin@yahoo.ca
  13. Cabover logger is a great idea. It looks great. I can't wait to see you start on the double bunk Pete
  14. http://s666.photobucket.com/user/doogie3323/media/cathypicandfordsnowplow001.jpg.html I just finished this one up. I slightly weathered the chassis and added a few extra details. I hinged the hood and cut the front axle so its steerable. Its supposed to represent one of the work trucks for the Region of Peel here in Mississauga that just got a new plow and salt spreader for this winter.http://s666.photobucket.com/user/doogie3323/media/cathypicandfordsnowplow002.jpg.html http://s666.photobucket.com/user/doogie3323/media/cathypicandfordsnowplow003.jpg.html http://s666.photobucket.com/user/doogie3323/media/cathypicandfordsnowplow005.jpg.html http://s666.photobucket.com/user/doogie3323/media/cathypicandfordsnowplow006.jpg.html
  15. Very cool. Who says it has to hold cement. Put a refrigeration unit on it and it will be the biggest slushy vendor on the beach
  16. The Mack is coming along and looking great. I too had that kit back in '78, I bought it just after seeing the movie. Built it straight out of the box without painting the cab/hood and just like yours it was the best looking model on my shelf. The gold is a nice colour and shows more details rather the darker green you first had on. Might look good pulling a set a AMT gravel trailers.
  17. I have had those plastic pins break too and I used the dress maker pins found in new dress shirt collars to hold them in place with the cardboard liner. These pins are strong enough and small enough to do the job, easy to cut to length..
  18. Try looking at the Hot Wheels Monster trucks. My son broke one of his and I took the wheels and tires and although I never measured them they look to be about the right size.
  19. Hi Alain: Thanks for the comments. I originally had the 1/16 scale tire that came with the Revell Cando kit on the truck but that didn't look right. I noticed some dumptrucks around here are running a 385/65 or even the larger 425/65 tires up front with an overall dia. of up to 45.6 inches and I liked that look so the closest I had was the 385/65 Italeri tires. I know that Plaskit now makes a wide variety of float tires and when it comes time to rebuild this truck I may go with some of his newer castings as they are much wider than the italeri tires with a lower profile on the side wall height which would improve the looks. Thanks, Mike
  20. I built this over 6 yrs ago and some of you may have already seen it but I recently put on some Clint Freeman cleated Goodyear tires and found a new subdivision under construction so I thought I would take some new pics. Its based on the Mack DM 600 with the mixer unit from the Paystar mixer kit.
  21. Here is one I built back in 1993. I got a built up cab that I stripped down and repainted. I added working rear suspension to the AMT kit and cut down an AMT dumptrailer to make the dump box.
  22. Thanks Robert. I posted it quite a while ago and I think I built it almost 6 yrs ago from an old gluebomb DM600 Mack that I added a new mixer from the Paystar mixer.
  23. I used the DM600 frame and total length is 14 inches. By looking at your pics if you shorten up the water tank you may be able to squeeze it in behind the fuel tank without stretching the frame but mock it up with a tube to represent the water tank and see if you like the look. Otherwise extend the frame 1 inch to 1.5 inches.
  24. The Mack with the mixer unit will be an awesome combination. If you want to change up the look a little you could always move the water tank down and mount on the frame.
  25. One thing I did when cash was tight and I wanted a new reissue kit was to take some of my older sealed kits that I lost interest in and traded them in at the hobbyshop for some reissue kits. If you have any unstarted or factory sealed kits that you may be willing to give up your local hobbyshop may be able to trade them for a new kit.
