  1. Thanks Roy, If that had happened to me a few years ago when all we had was enamel paints, it would have been in the bin or paint it all again after I'd calmed down!
  2. Well thank you John. It's not turned out too badly.
  3. Thanks guys. Al as I'm in the UK mineral spirits doesn't ring any bells.
  4. Superb!
  5. Thanks Bruce. Yes after 60 years of modelling you have to be resiliant and think, think and think again to how you can overcome seemingly simple issues to come out on top.
  6. Thanks Bill for your prompt reply. I had a kit from ebay 'already started' and the first owner stuck both the bonnet and bootlid on! I used enamel thinners but had to resort to a craft knife in the end. This model is in the Nascar thread just now. AMT UPS Taurus...... didn't work out too bad!
  7. My spray booth is made from a large box with the lid hung down. I have cut a hole in the top and bought a cooker extractor hood. When spraying I put the alloy sprung pipe out of the door next to it,( it also comes with a through wall vent) a switch on the unit has three fan settings and a light. Total cost £40. Here in the UK I can buy a spray booth half the size from ebay or Amazon for £120!
  8. I buy a large tub of Fruit Yoghurt each week. It has one seal that you tear off made from very thin cooking type film. They also supply a clear acetate clip on lid to seal the top of the carton if you don't eat it all in one go. From that I cut out flat side windows which I attach with brush on clear (no.35 Humrol) or use the complete top to decant paint from a rattle can tin to paint with a brush to touch up small areas.
  9. Although I sometimes use enamel thinners to dissolve plastic cement, I have read in a website Hints and Tips somewhere, that putting the parts into a domestic frezeer sometimes does the trick. Does anyone really know, having tried it themselves?
  10. Living just 6 miles from the Mercedes factory (5 from Force India, 12 from Red Bull, 18 from HAAS) we hear all manner of stuff! Nico didn't want Lewis to take the title from him, he made his decision to retire when he won the F1 title and he has! Advert seen online and in the press here; Mercedes F1 are looking for a new F1 driver to take Nico's seat on the team. The driver (they don't HE) needs to able to do three things 1. to brake 2. To accelerate and 3 To Steer. And the driver needs to have one more thing; A Superlicence! But when you get to the end of the ad there is no contact nmae, no telephone number, no email address and no factory address!
  11. Another of my auction wins from ebayUK. This again was an 'already started', this time the chassis/interior was complete, bar the front suspension (good as I lowered the front end), and not painted. So painting the seat and adding seatbelts and painting the rollcage and various engine parts was interesting! The other problem was that the original owner had stuck on both the bonnet and bootlid, so enamel thinners to the fore to dissolve the glue around the bonnet, which ended up using a craft knife to seperate one from the other, not totally satisfactory. I think I've seen somewhere on 'How Two's' putting bodyshells in the freezer to seperate glued parts. I'll try that next time! Again the decals were 'dodgy' so I added two coats of clear laquer, for safety. Laying up the long side decals was also interesting, around the rear side window, over the rear wheelarch and along to the front wheelarch, using plenty of water to slide it along. Lessons learnt: please recognise the two seperate silver coated Halfords Spray cans of automotive Grey Undercoat and automotive Clear Laquer, why? I heated and sprayed the Grey Undercoat along the drivers side ontop of the decals, then realised as I did it. Put a few drops of Humbrol Acrylic Thinners on a kitchen towel and wiped the grey paint straight off! It's a good job I'd already sprayed the decals with clear laquer when preparing them on the sheet! I then wiped the Acrylic Thinners off with water, dried the shell, warmed the Clear Gloss Laquer and carried on, I must slow down and realise which spray can I'm about to use, and it's consequences!
  12. WOW! Superb!
  13. From ebay UK a few days ago.............. It won't be built quite like that. A Surf Woody with those tyres? Nah! Now this came part built as described, that's the whole floor, seat, rollcage (interesting to paint and set seat belt decals) etc, but not the front suspension, goody! I was soooooooooooo disappointed with my last build, a Nascar Phantom Craftsman Truck because it was too high at the front. so I will lower the front of this onto the deck! I also bought some JDM decals for Liberty Walk or Tuner builds.
  14. As a british person who recently tested a 911 GT3, it's Porsh or Porsha! A Porch is extension of your house outside the front door
  15. Thanks Bruce, the Potenza decals were the largest I have because the kit Goodyears were too damaged to get off the crusty decal sheet. And it's interesting to note that I have aftermarket tyre decals from 3 different sources and none include Goodyear, must a copyright thing!
  16. Thanks John for your comments. Yes the decals were a pain but I've learnt a bit more about decals. Got another Nascar in the post today from an ebayUK auction. It's an AMT ERTL 1/25 No.88 UPS Taurus, but it's whole chassis/interior is already built but not painted and they've stuck the hood and trunk on! I've turned the body on it's roof and given it a careful dose of enamel thinners to hopefully disolve the glue. I'm also looking at lowering the front suspension (the only thing that wasn't on the chassis).
  17. Built Box Stock but decals old and crusty, although I did prise a few off of the backing, by firstly giving the decal sheet 2 coats of gloss clear. Then soaking in near boiling water and getting a craft blade between the decal and paper and sliding the decal away! As the kit decals were in short order, I found others in my collection to add to the build. I found that the front sat up a bit, but after checking the instructions and mounting points it was put together right. If I can find another Nascar Truck Kit I'll have to see how I can lower the front, so it looks as they do on the tele!
  18. Brilliant!
  19. Thanks Dann & Chuck, yes the box says 1975!
  20. Beautiful build, great colour! I'm presently building a ghost one of the same kit but in Orange with a mix of British and US decals, the kit ones are about shot!
  21. Fantastic finish! I'm building one of the Goodwrench trucks but it's orange and has a mix of British & US decals. Those in the box are pretty bad.
  22. Thanks guys, yes she's a groovy machine!
  23. Thanks guys, yes a good looking car the 510.
  24. Cheers Dale.
  25. I built this box stock, but had to renovate the decals as the paper they were on had turned to card. I scanned these to the pc and re-printed them a few times adjusting the colour and brightness, although they are still not exactly right. The smaller decals were too difficult to bringback into focus. I also added two of a few new home-brewed decals I'm trying to perfect. In this case both are on the front wing, one has a painted hand and on the other a coloured paint run.
