  1. Thanks guys, yes a strange shape I must admit. It always bothers me when you only get a rear view of a model on the boxart. I thought well damnit all. I bought it from the USA so it cost a bit, with shipping etc. But it solved my suspicions as such, that I possibly wouldn't have known without buying it,But...............I searched its images on google just a few days ago and there's quite a few on there!

    I just love building cars with aircooled motors, I'm now doing a Matchbox Porsche 356 Speedster which should be on here by the middle of next week.

  2. Thanks guys yes it shares most of the kit parts with those you mention Jason, so you get the front and rear nerf bars, extra steering wheel, Corvair motor and roll over bar.

    Yes Maxicoop the good old Plasti-Kote rattle cans ride again. The colour and finish came out well with a few coats of Plasti-Kote gloss clear and some AutoGlym Resin Car polish on top!

    Bob your right again strange shape quite high up. you would have thought that with that shape it would be more of a sports car and be lowered, but no, the beach/dune buggy theme is still there. But if your mixing a lot of the same parts from the Manx/Gypsy and Imp kits it would be the same height.

    It says in the intro on the instructions that this was like the others an actual kit car of a similar era, but on internet searching no vehicle of this name or shape appears at all!

    I added my exhaust tip as the pipe shown on the box is not offered in the kit, but thinking back I could have made one from the artwork!

    Also I remember an exhaust like that when I was looking for a performance set up on my own road going Beetle in the mid-70's but I chose one with the four tubes into a collector and a quiet pack muffler, like the one below...

  3. To continue with my aircooled engined builds, I've just finished this kit. Similar to the Meyers Manx kits I build this has no roof on the beach buggy theme

    The kit is moulded in blue (I have rattle can sprayed the shell with Plasti-Kote Metallic Blue) plus a sprue of clear and another of chrome. The kit comes with two engines, the VW 1800cc and the Chevy Corvair, so being a Beetle fan I have built the VW engine although it is not particularly well made and has little detail............

    It was easy kit to build although the body comes in six parts and the only slightly difficult area is having the attached the bottom of the door sills when the top half is on the chassis........

    I have added my signature tailpipe by using small plastic pipe with a slash cut piece of alloy tube fitted over it see third photo down.

  4. Yes it's very good to see a Mini being built up Jim! My brother bought a 1963 Green van direct from the factory in Oxford. The dealership who had the sales order wanted to charge £25 for delivery, for just a 20 mile trip.

    So my brother got on the bus and paid in todays terms 25p for a one way ticket and drove it home himself, realising that it was an airfield stored 1961 model (on checking the vehicle it had rust in the bottom of all of the steel wheels) as it jumped out of second gear. He drove it straight to the dealership, which was about 100 yards from our home and they had to change the gearbox under warranty! Mr mother also had a 1965 British Racing Green Mini Countryman estate car with the real wood trim on the outside.

    I look forward to rest of this build especially the opening doors.

  5. Superb Mr Stock. A true British sporting icon. We lived about 20 miles from Oxford when I was a boy in the late 50's and early 60's, so we saw the 'new mini' very early in it's production. My brother (10 years older than me) bought a brand new mini van in 1963 in the strange green factory colour. The garage wanted an extra £25 for delivery, a bit steep on a car costing around £350! So he jumped on the bus from Aylesbury to Oxford and paid what is now 25p for a single ticket.

    He came back a few hours later with his pride and joy. Being an Electrical & Mechanical Engineer he gave it the once over. He noticed when driving it a week or so later on his way to work and back that it jumped out of second gear! That was a fault with the 1961 version! He took it to the BMC dealer that he'd ordered it from and they put a new gearbox in it.

    When he 'given it the once over' he noticed a little rust in the back of the steel wheels? Of course it had been produced in 1961 and been stored on an old airfield near the plant in Oxford! When father passed away mother couldn't get anywhere so she passed her test at the age of 64 and bought a dark green Mini Traveller with that real wood trim on the outside, wicked!

    Made up of various kits, Mitsubishi 4X4 steering, suspension, 4X4 system, axles and decals. Corvair spares box engine. Jimmy Flintstone Resin body. AMT Meyers Manx Wheels/tyres and top.Scratchbult chassis floorpan, external chassis bracing tubes, roll cage, roof rack, exhaust and silencer. Lancia Stratos bull bar and lights. Spares box seats and rear lights.

  7. Whilst I'm waiting for a box of plastic cups to come to use in standard resin casting I thought I'd try a to master casting with resin plaster.

    The moulding medium for this is called Siligum which is a hand mix rubbery material, the blue is the mould and the white is the hardener.

    As I'm into beach/dune buggies I thought I would try some surfboards as I found a fridge magnet we bought from the Gold Coast in Australia.

    Plus a few seats I need for another scratchbuilding project.

    As I've just started printing my own decals, I've found a number of palm tree/beach scenes and I have some HellaFlush sticker bombs I'm going to try on the boards.

    The black high back seat is plastic from my spares box, the resin ones have had a very small amount of flash sanded off and the seatbelt holes opened up with a fine point file. The bomber seat needs cleaning up after casting.

    The moulds set in five minutes and the plaster is very fine and smooth and can be sanded if required and is set in an hour. Remember though that the plaster is a bit heavier than plastic or standard liquid type resin.

  8. Hey Mike your work impresses me no end. Your another one who has been to Italy, I was out in Florence not long ago. I also read your link to Duncan Hamilton. I sometimes go to Le Mans and have seen the Hamilton clan there. I couldn't go this year but I noticed whilst watching the whole 24 hours on our Eurosport satellite channel that his grandson Archie was there with his own team!

  9. While I was waiting for my resin casts to set up I found this old Novo kit in a plastic bag with a coloured instruction card stapled to it................

    When I put the old decals in warm water they collapsed so I looked in my decal box and found a couple of sheets of Colorado brand mixed alphabet and numbers for aircraft (although I use the larger numbers for racing cars). After they dried I sprayed on two coats of Plasti-Kote clear gloss.

    I hope I don't offend any of the purists as the only red spray I have is Plasti-Kote metalic red and it's turned out great!
